Nexus S vs EVO/EVO 3D

The Nexus S 4g is smaller than the Epic 4g. I have both Epic 4g and Evo on my desk right now and clearly the Evo is wider than the Epic which is why its a pain to hold or even do one handed texting hence why I'm getting the Nexus as I have no need for the Epic's keyboard. Actually I find the springyness of the keyboard REALLY annoying when powering on/off the device or turning the screen off/on.

So no the EVO and Nexus are not the same width or size at all.

In fact the poster above has exact sizes:

Evo 4G:
4.80 x 2.60 x 0.50

EVO 3D:
5.00 x 2.60 x 0.47 (127 x 66 x 12 mm)

Nexus S 4G:
4.88 x 2.48 x 0.43

Epic 4g:
4.90 x 2.54 x 0.56

Size wise Evo 3D > Evo 4g > Epic 4G > Nexus S 4G

Just for fun:

Evo SHIFT: 4.62 x 2.37 x 0.62
Optimus S: 4.47 x 2.32 x 0.52

On a side note, if you want dual core you have to ask yourself what apps really need dual-core and when will it be supported in the OS as currently only Honeycomb supports dual core. Do you really need Angry birds to go faster than what the evo does right now.... not really. Just like it taken over a year for tablets to mature (still hasn't) the dual core concept will take another year or so to be standard or even necessary

Yes the Evo and NS4G are not EXACTLY identical, but compared to like the first Nexus, in size they are more comparable. I just like the size of the Nexus better than any Evo device out or to be out. its not too big or too small ( thats what she said ) its just perfect, sure it sould have been better built quality, but tell that to Samsung. Besides it has respectable specs, not mind blowing ones just respectable ones, and l like that since it seems the more specs the less battery life you get.;)

Just the fact that Mastercard( come on VISA!), and other companies already came out and said they will build NFC apps and what not...I am more sold on this!

In the fine print on Sprint's page it says $399 2-year contract price -$200 instant rebate, which would make the phone $549 off contract when the $150 2-year contract discount is added in.

Which would also make the phone about $650-700 off contract at Best Buy

If you read the whole fine print it says $399 Minus $200 instant Savings for a Final Price of $199 with a 2 yr contract.

I was just in BB today and that is exactly what the tag says.

I as well own an Evo and yes it feels smaller, yet better in the hands and easier to hold. Again people its not a drastic difference but you can feel it. COME ON SPRINT release a date already!!!!:'(

This is turning out to be the HARDEST decision I've had to make in a long time! We had it easy with the Evo last year :s

Yeah i know what you mean. It really feels like every carrier has at least 1 or 2 powerhouse phones coming this year. but im leaning towards nexus s and staying with sprint. coming from a hero, that will be an amazing change :)

Yeah release date please! I have an optimus and dying for 4G and went from EVO to Epic to Shift 4g in 3 weeks and none fit the bill. The nexus s hits all the sweet spots except for a voice button and camera button. Not that I care but I remap those to mute and hangup on the optimus otherwise its a pain to use with out them.

It has been a tossup for me between the EVO 3d and a Nexus... i currently have an EVO and after using cyanogen 7 for a while, I'm really partial to vanilla android. The one thing holding me back from the Nexus is lack of an led for notifications. Might seem like a small thing, but I've come to rely on led notifications since my blackberry days.

Shrug, maybe I'll just stick with my EVO, don't know.

i keep hearing about how u guys switch phones all the time. I dont get it. Whenever i sign up and get a phone, i have to keep it for 2 years or risk having to pay restocking fees. how do u get a new phone for under 200 every year or try them out and switch around before finalizing? A little help on this plz?

on topic, since im not sure how u guys get new phones before being eligible for upgrade, i would go with the phone that is more advanced --- Evo 3D.
Nexus S would be great if it would be able to keep up with the phones next year, but it wont.

--i get upgrade eligibilty in september, cant wait.

I'm a sprint premier gold customer, every June, my primary line is eligible for an upgrade.

Its because people can sell their phones on Craigslist or Ebay. If you buy a Evo for $199 on contract then sell it for $300 on ebay you can pretty much buy a brand new top of the line phone for $100-$150 like 6 months down the road...

Found out about the EVO 3D today!

At first I thought - I can hold out till the summer - but after reading a lot more here (my wife has the EVO - hates the battery life, or lack thereof) - I think the Nexus will be for me. I've been holding onto my BB far too long. Anyway, I am a Gold Premium Sprint person, I can always "upgrade" next year. . .

I'm in the same boat, I'm waiting for a concrete release date to upgrade to the Nexus from my old BB

Am I crazy for considering dumping my Evo?

I already have my Evo rooted and running CM7, but I really want to support the Nexus line of phones on Sprint. My fear is if sales of the Nexus S are small, Sprint will not bring the next Nexus phone to their network. The Evo and Nexus S are about equal when it comes to specs, but I do not really care about specs, it is all about the software and updates.

Crazy?

I don't think that is crazy thinking at all. I'm in the exact same position as you. In fact, it is because I started using CM7 on my EVO that I'm considering going for the Nexus as opposed to just keeping my EVO or getting the EVO3d. 2 things hold me back a little, they are spending $200 on a phone that spec-wise is pretty much identical to my current phone and the lack of led. (yes I know I could sell my EVO and recoup at least some of the costs of the upgrade, but I'm still spending $200). But I've really become to like vanilla android and nice to be on the "fast track" for new versions.
