Nexus S worthy of being called a Google Phone?

Does the Nexus S seem to live up to the Nexus name and status?

It seems there are mixed feelings, does anyone think that this might be worthy of the title "Google Phone"? With partial specs confirmed, such as a dual core processor and Gingerbread, does it bring shame upon the Nexus name?

If it's fate is left to a cell phone carrier in this case TMobile., Then no. It's predessor was soley controlled by google hence Google Phone.

That makes no sense dude. The Nexus S is not a carrier phone.

When it is released and I get my hands on it I will decide if it's worthy. Until then, we don't have too much information to go on.

nexus s, a galaxy phone he he. I would only call it worthy if it isn't a flop like the nexus one. Hoping google markets it correctly this time and makes it available to more than t mo (no offense t mo users) but the non gsm users want to play too:)

If this actually turns out to be a phone that Google has asked Samsung to produce, and is completely stock Android, then there really isn't much else reason to say it's not worthy of being a Google phone. If Google themselves says it's a Google phone, none of us are really to argue it.

Nexus one flop?

Where do you get the nexus one was a flop? Maybe it didn't sell millions because it was not readily available to consumers like every other phone, but as a phone it seems like it was a top of the line device, and it still is. I don't own one, but from what I hear everyone who owns one loves that phone even over newer devices. The marketing was most definitely a flop, but not thr Nexus one.

Sent from my Zoned Out Evo.

It depends on if it is completely open like the Nexus One. As for the marketing, it has already shown up in Best Buy ads (by accident I assume, but I doubt that would happen if they weren't getting it), and that will put it in the hands of many more consumers.

Great opinions everyone, I agree, if Google wants the Nexus S to work this time, availability to more users would be a great place to start, and since Samsung is a master of providing high-end devices on almost every carrier around the country, I am pretty sure that will be nailed down. Now the only thing we need to convince to people is that there will not be a broken GPS.

I am so glad you said this. I consistently feel that Samsung gets ridiculous amounts of bad rep for a few things that have gone wrong over the years, particularly the GPS issue. One of the first things Samsung did was acknowledge that it was indeed an issue and that they were working on a fix. That can't be said about all manufacturers.

Once they ship a product they cease support for it and begin to work on it's successor. It's about to be December and we still have no word on the Froyo 2.2 update for the US Galaxy S devices. That's just silly. Samsung hardly recognized the issue because there's still no official fix for it. They just keep spitting out new products and completely disregarding their last ones. When the Nexus S releases it'll be overshadowed by the Elite/Galaxy S2 in a few months.

I agree with the first part, it's ridiculous that the Galaxy S versions didn't ship with Froyo (at least the later one's), much less STILL not have it. I think the Nexus S will be different because the updates will come straight from Google.

Each manufacturer is guilty of doing this in part, but Samsung has not been any more evil than the rest of them. I'm sure Xperia X10 users would love to be in a position Fascinate owners are in right now. There is a fix out there for the GPS issues, and I can attest to that. I won't go any further, I'll let time do the talking.

All depends on the specs. If its packed with internals or features like no other phone, its defiantly worth being the Google Phone and becoming the flagship.

All I know is I hope it is some ground breaking. Oh and arrives on Verizon by the end of the year, if at all. ;)

Well we do have a semi confirmed spec on a dual core Orion, however this isn't even official. So if we just take this under consideration, that it does have dual core Orion, then maybe it might seem like an Android step in the definitely right direction.

Orion would be sick. However, Samsung was not scheduled to release it until Q4 2011. That's quite a ways off, I wonder what they did to release it so early. Could their be bugs or performance issues? We will see.

No way is google going to release par hardware, won't happen. The nexus one still hangs with the big dogs. I am fully enjoying the details and development of this. Again, google, many fans rocking lte in the short, keep our numbers in mind, we love google.

Absolutely not... Nothing groundbreaking like the Nexus 1

The nexus one broke many barriers. In marketing mostly. That mistake need not be repeated. But then, how the heck does google keep the phone pure? Apple does, can google do the same, or will it be a t mo online only weird funk?

Honestly do you think Eric Scmidt was holding s new Samsung Galaxy S device? I believe all this speculation is true, it is a Nexus S. Google has fooled us by stating that there will never be a Nexus 2, however they never said anything about another device of a different name. If this device is real, if t doesn't achieve anything with new hardware, it might achieve the status of multi carrier, which Samsung has mastered.
