No need to move to the LG Nexus

It's going to come down to the storage and whether there will be an LTE version. I'm off contract on an old unlimited plan with my GNex on Verizon, so there has to be a really compelling reason for me to give that up. 8 GB of storage and HSPA+ won't do the trick.

However, if the phone is cheap enough, I could get it and toss a T-Mo sim in just to have a toy/back-up. I kind of see the new Nexus being that for a lot of people here. Not a daily driver, but something for people that dig Android (and devs of course). It's weird, but the new Nexus' rumored limitations almost make it a more compelling purchase if it comes in at $350 or so off contract.

I'm not sure if I see anything limited/limiting other than the rumored storage size. Past that, it has as good or better specs (rumored) than literally any other device--a first for a Nexus phone.

Don't get me wrong, I'm the last person that will ever slam a Nexus phone. The S4 Pro and 2 GB of RAM would be nuts. I definitely want something like that, but I'm using well over 8 GB on my GNex now. I've also managed to avoid the edge network for my entire life. I don't want to break the streak. So rather than give up the GNex as my daily driver, I'm hoping The next Nexus will be cheap enough to buy off contract and use month-to-month when I want. It fits that role for me if the rumors about 8 GB of storage are true. Most of my stuff is in the cloud, and I use Google voice full time.

I just wan ted to chime in with some of the others....my Verizon Gnex is a beast. Best experience I've ever had with a phone. Hated waiting for the launch but my gnex runs like a raped ape so I guess it was worth it. The community support is ridiculous so I'm always on the latest software.......and Verizons gnex is only behind the gem gnex in terms of updates.......not too shabby

I was just going to post something like this. The reason I think that it's toppled the original Droid as my favorite is that the GNex has gotten better with age. It's such a weird thing. iPhone users are used to seeing their phones slow with updates, which bring less and less new features too. iOS 5 crippled my iPod Touch 4th gen., iOS 6 was the death blow. The GNex is faster and more capable than the day I got it. That isn't because bugs have been fixed. It's the platform and the OS. Sure it will hit a point where it isn't like this, but none of my previous phones a year into their lives have been like this. It's enough to look past the flakey camera or other foibles.

Maybe it has more to do with the Nexus program than the actual phone. If that's true though, there is no way I'd ever get a non-Nexus device again.

That's exactly right and the reason I'm gonna be selling my ipod touch 4. I will be moving all my music over to my gnex now as it will be my All in One device. Unfortunately if the LG Nexus does not come in at least 32gb I will have to pass..that is if it even comes to vzw in the first place.

Yeah, to my knowledge, pending the release of the note 2, the gnex is the only VZW device w jelly bean. Not even the razr hd/maxx will be coming w jelly bean, though promised to come by the end if the year. The demo units ran jelly bean, but the devices are still coming out with ics, which I don't get... The point remains, even on VZW, the nexus devices are the first to be upgraded.

Which is a significant problem I have with the release of these phones. In my opinion there is no justifiable to release a top end phone with an OS.

i'd grab this phone in a second if i wasn't bound to my VZW contract until next December. i haven't found much of a need for 4g LTE to be honest. If i can get decent HPSA speeds, i'd be content. I mainly use my phone for music/gps.

I also think the 8GB thing is a bit far fetched too. I'll believe it when I see it. Although it wouldn't surprise me to see manufacturers and service providers work hand in hand to force users into the "cloud" as much as possible to maximize on data usage fees. But 8GB would barely hold the OS and a few apps. I have 6.5 GB of music on my GNex now and the Maps app alone is almost 200Mb.

You people with all of your music stored locally, must have only one device! I was having to keep a desktop PC, a laptop, 3 smartphones, and 2 tablets music in sync! It was completely impossibe! Thank god for the "cloud"!!

Storing music and other media in the cloud is great.

But, 8gigs? That is to small. Especially if you factor in apps, games, and the space required for the OS.

Apps/games, certainly. The OS is fairly lightweight though; while impactful, it's not nearly as massive as I've seen bandied about (4 gigs? Not a chance ;)).

I bought the S3 16gig because I didn't want to wait for the shipping and such for the 32gig. Maybe it's the space required for Touch Wiz, but I was surprised at how much space was already used out of the box.

A selling point at the VZW store of course is the sd card slot.

Unfortunately, with the way the OS is as well as some of the apps and their requirements using the sd card for media is all that it is good for.

For me 32gigs is the happy spot storage.

It's TouchWiz. Trust me on that. It is the most inefficient mobile OS in existence.
