Note 10/+ gripes

I have an old Nikon FE and a really old Kodak box camera that belonged to my mom.

I started with a pocket 110 film camera, I recall a slider in front of the lens for telephoto pics. I even had a Minox spy camera...piece of junk. Also had a Pentax K1000 with its needle exposure reading. Then had a Pentax Super Program with multi auto/program modes, so cool. Then a Nikon F4 film camera which I thought was bad @ss, shot tons of film with that, even once had a 1,000mm fixed aperture mirror lens. Then used manual Hasselblad 503cx medium format film gear for over 15 years, spent a fortune on that entire system for both equipment and "cut & bag" 6x6cm film processing. Then went into digital with a Nikon D1x and D100, then a D2x, and so on. Don't even get me started on studio and lighting equipment which took up an entire bedroom.

Love my Note 10+ but..... am I no longer able to utilize the Samsung Health functions such as "Heart Rate" and "Stress"? Used mine on a daily basis on my Note 9. Any ideas on how to turn on functionality would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, me too. I'm sad the Note 10 no longer has the sensor on back of phone for heart beat reading. To offset that, I now have a Samsung 42mm smartwatch that has all those readings and functions, and then some.

Nikon? Pffft! Canon is king dammit! :P

Canon is definitely the much larger company versus Nikon, as such, Canon usually has more offerings versus Nikon. I remember the uproar that Canon created many years ago when it changed its lens mount to a different size to accommodate the new lens offerings. But this effectively meant that loyal Canon users with their many older lenses could no longer be used on the new lens mount size. During that time, Nikon users just laughed it off. But the main reason I stuck with Nikon is because I already had many Nikon lenses, and it would have been too huge an issue to switch to another brand as such. Plus I could never get used to Canon's thumbwheel for navigation on the back of the bodies. All that said, if I were totally new to digital photography with no gear whatsoever, I would choose Canon today. As another poster already mentioned, mirror-less bodies are the future. But the continuous live video feed is probably a huge battery drain on current first generation models.

after my rebel dslr I jumped into Nikon with both feet and got a D300. at the time it was the camera if you weren't going any big dog higher price-wise. love it truly and the lenses are sublime.

I have many friends who are staunch Canon users. One Canon friend has the Canon 85mm f1.2 lens and I was amazed by it! But I only had a Nikon 85mm f1.8 lens at the time. [insert sad face here haha]

f1.2 gets you bragging rights! :-) Alas, I didn't have it either.

But I did have a bunch of fast f2.8 Nikon zoom lenses, but sold most of them.

I have 4 lenses that I use for my EOS 6D.

EF-L 17-40MM f/4
EF-L 24-105MM f/4
EF-L 28-300MM f/3.5-f/5.6
EF-L 400MM f/5.6
EF 50MM f/1.4

I also have a Yashica to Canon EF adapter which allows me to use my Yashica 800MM f/8 mirror lens. As well as my other Yashica Car Zeiss glass.

my Nikons. I need to sell because my health took a nose-dive, but I'm still hopeful that some miracle will happen.

same. still have them.

Those fast f2.8 Nikon zooms ranged between $1500 to $2500 for each lens purchased new. It's the equivalent of buying a new smartphone or laptop. When I was using manual medium format Hasselblad gear, each Carl Zeiss lens cost around $3k...crazy...fixed focus too! At one time, I owned the fabled Hassy 40mm wide, but could only afford the "silver" model.

By the way, I learned a piece of important trivia when it comes to resale value of equipment. Used camera bodies are worth considerably less over the years compared to accessories such as lenses. That's cuz everyone wants the latest new 1 million megapixel full frame body, hence older bodies get devalued rather quickly. But good/fast used brand name Nikon/Canon lenses will have stronger resale value versus bodies. I learned this from a friend who owns a camera store and buys and sells camera gear for a living. My used bodies were worth peanuts compared to what I originally paid for them. By the way, if you think this is bad, trying to sell used FILM gear is a joke! You may as well keep it for sentimental value.

and that's why I do. I need to get a smaller lighter Nikon body that can still handle the lenses because I can't even take my gear outside anymore due to the weight and rely largely on my Notes to handle the heavy lifting. I have great hopes for the 10+ camera. and a new Canon body would make me happy since macros are my thing. two amazing macro lenses I currently can't use.

I really like the tele macro lenses such as the Nikon 105mm micro nikkor cuz it can do double duty for close-up plus a tight portrait lens too.

Here's a beauty that I won't be buying any time soon, haha:

That lens is more curvaceous and buxom than anything with a red suit on Bay Watch!!! I need to stop lusting now! :-p

it's a hottie to be sure. my heart skipped a beat and my finger knew what to do. had to back right off of it. too bad, wrong time of year and can't use my current gear anyway right now. but before... sigh

you should see what my 300mm f/4D ED-IF AF-S Nikkor does with a macro situation. can't put my hands on a shot for you right now, but I used to use it that way and it is so wow. amazing lens, if not the absolute best.
