Note 5 Battery life thread

I've got a Note 5 that has been problematic since updating to Marshmallow, bad battery drain, screen and internet usage, off the charts... it's going back as I got a warranty replacement from Verizon, running Lollipop... that I did NOT update to MM.

Last night, had the Marshmallow version running on wifi and when I woke up this morning, the cell standby was 100% and it ate the battery like no tomorrow.

The Lollipop version was just its mellow self, not burning anything out of the ordinary, very low usage across the board.

The Marshmallow one that's going back seemed like it was running 'haywire' and the phone was operated conservatively, five cache partition cleanings, factory reset, safe modes, good/strong wifi and a solid 4G connection.

After watching the original phone operate first under Lollipop, then the update to Marshmallow... coupled with the second phone solely under Lollipop...

My conclusion is that while MM is a 'smoother' OS, the Verizon version, at least in my case with the original phone, had some SERIOUS bugs that need to be worked out.

Lots of conflict in the power, screen, wifi usage and most of all, the SOT was, for a Note 5, not that impressive, once the OS settled down.

I will remain on Lollipop for as long as I need to be until I see that the MM OS gets its 'you-know-what together.

YMMV!

The battery life on my Note 5 has been great. I also know a lot of people that have a Note 5 on various carriers and they also get great battery life. I just disabled all of the AT&T apps except the MyAT&T app. My brother on the other hand has a iPhone 6s+ and has to charge his phone in the middle of the day just to get thru a work day. I on the other hand take my phone of the charger at 6am and when I go to bed around 10 pm usually have around 40% battery life left.

Ah, looks like people are still having issues. I sold my note in April and bought an iPhone 6s Plus. And it's awesome!!!! Battery is absolutely amazing, 7 hrs of SoT is normal!! Compared to 2 hrs SoT on my note 5. Never will I go back to Samsung again!

Thanks for your comment, but this is Note 5 battery life thread not consulting about phone changing, i will ask you if i decide to buy iPhone ( witch is never)
by the way i had 7 hour SOT before marshmallow witch you can see,

I have a love - hate relationship with my Note 5. I love the phone and all its features, but I hate my **** poor battery life! If I didn't have a charger at work and in my car, I'd never make it through a day at work. And I don't consider myself a heavy user. I have dimmed the screen to about 50%, turned off most everything you can and still get the value of a smart phone, and it still drains fast. My wife has an iPhone and can go all day without charging, using it about like I do, and have 60%+ battery life left at bedtime. As much as I don't want to make the shift to the iPhone, it may be the battery life that drives me that direction!

I have updated my Note 5 to MM on Verizon about 3 weeks ago. The battery is OK. I can get through a day. I took it off the charger at 730 this morning and now 718 p.m I jave 68% left.

I agree as my brother has iPhone 6s Plus and he has to charge his phone midway thru the day. Not only that but Note 5 out preforms his iPhone in every way conceivable. I take my phone off the charger at 6am and when I put it back on the charger at 10pm it still has around 35 to 40% left with moderate to heavy usage throughout the day.

I realized that i didn't factory reset my phone after upgrade to android 6, so i did it and its amazing now, do it and please just try my recommendation you can find in post #2134, i'm getting at least 1 day and 6 hours SOT in any typical day, just try it. do not forget to backup you data and apps before factory reset

My current Note 5, five months old, a warranty replacement for original bought in November that was defective...

Bring a heavy user, have to recharge at least THREE times a day... Battery degrading, burning through charges fairly quickly, and taking longer to recharge.

SAMSUNG through Verizon wants to run me through the hoops to get a warranty replacement... mainly for a new battery... and I also carry extended warranty.

Samsung wants the condition of the battery to show... bad/poor... and not good, in order for replacement. This could take some time even while the battery is discharging rapidly every day.

IF I HAD A REPLACEABLE BATTERY, I'D JUST BUY A NEW ONE AND POP IT IN AND BAM!... I'm back in business.

There are no Samsung repair stores here in Denver! This stinks! Apple store with new battery replacement is three miles away and an advanced one hour appointment.

WAKE UP SAMSUNG! If you want sealed batteries, put a store in a big high tech center like Denver and replace my battery!

If you want to wait for it to die, then step up before hand and replace it under warranty!

Apple doesn't show you SOT! So you really don't know how long your screen is on.

Also, the usage time on iOS includes time the phone is used with the display off such as when you listen to music with the phone in your pocket. This is why the usage times on iOS are so high.

In iOS 9.x, clicking the clock icon so that it's blue, will show screen on time for each app.

I have a Galaxy Note 5 and I have only 3hs about SOT. On overnight my Note 5 is consuming about 1.5% per hour. My battery life runs for about 13 to 15 hrs.
I have everything on: (location history, Device Manager, Google Now Voice On, Location, Wifi, Bluetooth, Screen about 30%, etc)

Galaxy Note 5 running Marshmallow.

Posting some pictures of my battery life:
