First I would like to thank Android Central Adviser DroidXcon for making this happen. I was waiting on the official "update.zip" file so we could produce this for you. Once I obtained the update I was able to get the files DroidXcon needed to make the Odin ".tar" file. Thanks again DroidXcon.

I ran this package personally 3 times to verify its working ;)

*** Android Central Exclusive ***

Froyo EC05 Prerooted/ClockWorkMod v2.5.1.0 (RFS Filesystem) Odexed. FULL WIPE VERSION
&

Froyo EC05 Prerooted/ClockWorkMod v2.5.1.0 (RFS Filesystem) Odexed. NO DATA WIPE/LOSS !!

NO DATA LOSS VERSION:

Thats right, you can flash this with Odin and you will not loose your data on your device! So if your already on Froyo EB13/DK28 or Eclair 2.1 you can use this file with Odin and retain your Data.

1) Download Odin | mirror Note ** The mirror package comes with ".pit" file, this is NOT NEEDED FOR THIS PROCEDURE..
2) Download and Install Windows Drivers 32bit | 64 bit
3) Download the EC05x_DXC.tar.rar
4) Extract the "EC05x DXC.tar.rar" file to a folder on your hard drive to get the neccessary "EC05x_DXC.tar.md5" file located inside.
5) Shut down your device
6) Boot into download mode (Hold number 1 on physical keyboard and press power)
7) Start Odin
8) Plug in device via USB cable to computer, (if it's done right you should see a yellow Com device light up in one of the rectangular boxes)
9) Place the "EC05x_DXC.tar.md5" in the PDA slot on Odin
10) Check Auto Reboot ONLY
12) Click start and this should only take about 2-3 minutes to complete.
13) Wait for the green light in the Com device/rectangular box and the "Pass" to show.

When completed it should reboot into Froyo EC05 and you will have your previous Data still intact.

NOTE: For those interested in converting from this to EXT4/CWM 3.0.0.6 please see the following thread. Go to Procedure #2 and start at Step #2

[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EC05 w/Optional EXT4 *New*

*** Trouble Shoot for all Odin Packages... Read below... ***

If for some reason Odin does ever give you a FAIL or the process hangs up for more than 5 minutes in one spot then do the following.

- Pull your battery out of your device and leave it out.

- Plug in your device via USB cable and connect it to your computer.

- Then boot into Download Mode (hold 1 on physical keyboard and press power).

- Run the Odin package.

- When completed and you get the Green PASS, you can pop your battery back in and then reboot the phone and you should be good to go.

Note: Some devices have given some trouble and you have to attempt this twice to get it to work. Also make sure all anti virus software is off/disabled. One last option is remove your sdcard if everything else fails.

Other optional troubleshooting:

- Odin flash didn't work, getting boot loops? Try booting into CWM and wipe cache and dalvik only 3x. If that doesn't resolve it then run the Odin package again.

- Remove your sdcard

- Disable any anti virus and run Odin again

- Try a different USB cable or USB port

- Drivers above didn't work?? install this driver (select "Software" at the bottom; it should say "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.1.0)") instead.

Would this be like like a ROM where it would take you off the ability to get OTA updates or is this like using Odin to return to DI18 where your phone is still "stock" so to speak? Thanks.

You should still be able to receive OTA updates as long as you don't remove any of the Sprint/Samsung bloatware and don't convert to EXT4/custom ROMs.

Side note: I would think this is the last OTA update we will be seeing for a while...

I thought as much (on this being the last update for awhile) just wanted to keep the phone stock. Thanks Paul.

Does this do the modem update or is that still a separate update??

Will i be able to update to CW3 from CW2.5 if i want to try ext4 and custom roms??

Do you receive OTA even if you are rooted? I did the update.zip process from DI18 to EB13 and then rooted my phone. I haven't removed any bloatware, converted to EXT4, or installed a custom ROM.

Only things that I use that take advantage of the root are Titanium Backup and Wireless Tether.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that since you haven't removed anything or what not, if you then unroot your phone, you should be "on the grid" again so to speak.

The modem is included in this package. Its ready to go in one flash. Yes you can continue onward to EXT4 conversion. See bottom of OP.

Yes you should be able to receive the OTA update once they start pushing it for EB13 users.

Yes you should be able to receive the OTA update IF they start pushing it for EB13 users.

Fixed it for you sir.

wow my internet is super slow back in my hometown, its going to take about 20 min to download the EC05x tar... or is that normal? I still think my internet is way faster up at WVU

Will this work with DG17? I just traded for an Epic, and the Sprint Rep did a factory reset, which got rid of any updated Firmware.

@Mike77, we will see.. Maybe they just started with the Eclair 2.1 rollout then finish up today into tomorrow with a mass push for EB13..

Wow, Thanks Paul and DroidXCon this is a huge step in making this whole process that much easier.

FYI for some, if you get stuck on "setup connection" in Odin, try switching usb ports. This doesn't work from my front usbs but works fine from the back.

what if I had truly epic rebirth on? can I still go from this, or do I have to go back to dk18 froyo then this? or aallllll the way back to eclair then this?

tried it, got big red FAIL! in Odin, now my phone is jacked! whenever I turn it on, I get black screen with pic of small phone ... exclamation mark in yellow triangle... then pic of desktop.

did I just brick my phone? how screwed am I?
