[Odin-EC05] Froyo EC05 Prerooted/CWM v2.5.1.0 RFS (Odexed)

Phone popping sound

My phone snaps and pops, Usually once I hand up from a phone call. It all started with the froyo 2.2 EB13 update. I downloaded the zip file from Samsung site onto my SD card. I thought it was a phone issue, Went into Sprint and they gave me a brand new phone. Once I loaded the EB13 zip file onto the new phone the popping started again.

I was hoping the latest update would take care of the problem. I used Odin to flash to stock to wait for the new update. I manually updated via:

Froyo EC05 Prerooted/ClockWorkMod v2.5.1.0 (RFS Filesystem) Odexed. NO DATA WIPE/LOSS !! Then converted to EXT4/CWM 3.0.0.6. Everything went very smooth, no hiccups. The phone seemed to stop popping then to my dismay the phone started popping again, only now, more frequent and even louder!

No one seems to have heard of this issue nor is there mention of it on any forums. Sprint employees have never heard of this popping. Until I went into a different Sprint store and one of the employees had the same issue. So this cannot be an isolated problem.

Any ideas? Please help!

Will there later be a rom that will switch me from this odexed version to a deodexed version with ext4 and CWM v3 support?

Yes eventually there will be a stock version.

Currently in there is Bonsai v4.0.0 and midNIGHT v5 (based on Bonsai) that are custom ROMs using EC05 EXT4

I have eb13...so if I follow the top instructions I do not have to get my phone back to the original 2.1.1???? Cus those instructions was long n difficult..lol

I'm new to android so perhaps I have overlooked something obvious but I followed the steps for full wipe version but for some strange reason this worked out to be the no data loss version since all my apps, ADWlauncher setup, app data and settings, etc were intact after the process completed and it was a successful completion indicated by the pass indicator in odin for step 13 and the device settings and visual things that are new indicate success as well.

Anyways not complaining that I don't have to restore data or anything but I was going that route for the purpose of the experience of starting clean and restoring sms, call logs, etc since I'm new to android and wanted to have the know how for the future when going with custom ROM or if something were to happen and I need to recover or what not. So did I do something wrong? If so what was it? And if not is there an error in the steps that lead to the end result I got?

It seems to me that those roms require you to install CWM v3 first, then install the rom using CWM v3 and since I'm already using the EC05 modem (thanks to your rom), I would not have to worry about flashing the modem.

Or I can just wait for your rom, and use odin again to have everything done painlessly. :)

You would have to convert to EXT4 and follow the instructions to flash Bonsai/midNIGHT.

If I do decide to put out an update to ACE ROM, it will still require you to convert to EXT4 and flash the ROM. We would not put out an Odin package for that.

If i'm already on your odexed rfs rom, would I have to flash back to EB13 to format to ext4, or is there an installation path for those of us already on EC05 rfs?

This is my first time using a custom rom and it is awesome. What are some of the benefits of rooting besides wireless tethering??? Is there a way to change the unlock screen to stock android and not the default epic one with this rom???? Thanks.

going from EB13.. first tried to ODIN to DI18, took longer than 5 mins, so I pulled the battery and am currently ODIN to EC13... I'm on 15 minutes now and waiting. Followed all instructions.

I am on EB113 rooted do I have to do anything special like unroot? And can I do a none wipe?

TIA

I know I just posted this question but couldn't wait LOL I went for it with no issues worked as expected. Didn't do a wipe with root. I still had root and all my apps still there and working from what I can tell.

Thanks NICE job on this. Going from BB to a Droid is so different Droid is so much easier and cleaner.

Run the entire package without your battery in the phone, try a different cable/usb port and make sure all anti virus is turned off on your computer.

I followed the steps and everything went great on my phone. My sister in-law's phone would hang up right after it says do not remove cable. I ended up having to power off the phone and loading it without the battery. Worked great, no issues or data loss.

OMG my phone is so much faster now! I can't believe I almost threw this thing away before today! No kidding; I don't know why but it is zipping around like an (gasp!) iPhone.

Peace and THANKS ALL!

the first OTA on my epic appeared 5 weeks after it was pushed out (waited till november 07)......last round i went otw/ODIN and got EB13 instead of waiting for the OTA......and THIS round, awaited till last night --saturday 03/26/11-- for EC05 + NOTHING.......all to say, went back to ODIN for EC05 Prerooted/CWM and was up and running in 3 minutes. Thank you Paul for your nifty handiwork in making this available to the AC community!

I just tried those roms, and I didn't really like them, so I went back to stock EB13 with ext4.

I hope someone makes a stock EC05 eventually. Either that or CM7 to be fully supported :)

Between me, you and the rest of cyberspace I'm trying... Working on something over here.... No promises yet.

I am currently on EC05 that I received OTA from Sprint. My phone is 100% stock and not rooted. Am I able to follow the "No Data Loss Instructions" and achieve the same result or do I have to ODIN flash my phone to EB13 in order to do this?

TIA.
