[Odin-EC05] Froyo EC05 Prerooted/CWM v2.5.1.0 RFS (Odexed)

I'm totally new to this updateing phone stuff. I have a few questions about the process.
When download the samsung drivers (mine are 64-bit), are being downloaded on your phone or just your pc? Is your phone connected at this time or not?

The drivers are loaded onto the PC so that it recognizes your phone.

The 32-bit or 64-bit refers to what version your PC's OS is.

According to the OP, you don't connect your phone to your PC until step #8.

Yes I've tested it personally from EB13 rooted/EXT4 and it works fine.

I'm running ACE Rom 1.7 with EXT4 and the Genocide Kernel for overclocking. A little confused as to whether to use wipe or no wipe and want to see of I'll be able to flash Genocide and ACE rom back on?

What about converting back to EXT4? That file system is really, really fast on my phone

Was on EB13 and got tired of waiting for EC05 to make its way to me so I followed the instructions here and it worked perfectly. Thanks for putting this up and also making the instructions easily understandable for those of us relatively new to the Epic.

I manually OTW updated to EB13 when it first came out. I decided to manually update to EC05, working good so far :)

Thanks to all who made this painless and simple!

You need to download the drivers, place them on your COMPUTER. Last I checked I know the 32 bit drivers where in a zip file so they needed to be extracted. Then run the extracted file without your phone connected. The drivers will install quickly in this part of the installation (a couple mins). After this is done, place your phone in debug mode (Settings>Applications>Development). Then plug in your phone to your computer, the driver installation will continue (you should see a pop up in your tasktray by your clock in the lower right hand corner). This may take as long as 10 minutes for all the drivers to complete installation. Drivers are installed to you computer only, not your phone.

Once this is done you can continue onward with the installation procedure using Odin.

When I do this, will I be able to use the zip files that were made for EB13 like ASOP LockScreen and others files?

Thanks Paul. It worked flawlessly, and I didn't have to wipe my phone by going back to Eclair.

I want to say no on the ASOP lockscreen. This is odexed version of Froyo which normally you are very limited to what you can change/flash. Plus you would also need to find things that are RFS/CWM 2.x.x.x compliant which is also limited.

Give it a few more days I'm sure someone will have a stock deodexed version of Froyo EC05 out then you all can start changing and modifying things as you like with limited chances of conflicts and fc's.

NO DATA LOSS VERSION:

Thats right, you can flash this with Odin and you will not loose your data on your device! So if your already on Froyo EB13/DK28 or Eclair 2.1 you can use this file with Odin and retain your Data.

1) Download Odin | mirror Note ** The mirror package comes with ".pit" file, this is NOT NEEDED FOR THIS PROCEDURE..
2) Download and Install Windows Drivers 32bit | 64 bit
3) Download the EC05x_DXC.tar.rar
4) Extract the "EC05x DXC.tar.rar" file to a folder on your hard drive to get the neccessary "EC05x_DXC.tar.md5" file located inside.
5) Shut down your device
6) Boot into download mode (Hold number 1 on physical keyboard and press power)
7) Start Odin
8) Plug in device via USB cable to computer, (if it's done right you should see a yellow Com device light up in one of the rectangular boxes)
9) Place the "EC05x_DXC.tar.md5" in the PDA slot on Odin
10) Check Auto Reboot ONLY
12) Click start and this should only take about 2-3 minutes to complete.
13) Wait for the green light in the Com device/rectangular box and the "Pass" to show.

When completed it should reboot into Froyo EC05 and you will have your previous Data still intact.

Let me preface by saying I did a complete backup via Clockwork and Titanium before doing the above...

Did the above with no issues. Everything worked perfectly.
Then I went and screwed up. I wanted to get rid of all of the Sprint crap, so I thought I would flash the rom I was using before updating to EC05, SuperNova. I spaced the fact that this rom would wipe my phone.

So...long story short, my phone got wiped and when I tried to restore the backup I did in Clockwork, it's not there. I cannot find it anywhere. I had a backup from a few days ago, but had added some stuff since then.

I guess my question is this...where the hell did my backup go from today? Luckily I used Titanium to back up the apps/data, but I would still like to know where Clockwork'ss is...

You backup should be in a folder on your sdcard called "clockworkmod>backup". Otherwise you would have had to manually go into that folder with a file explorer and physically delete the backup.

i had a major issue trying to do the EC update but finally got it and got all the apps restored.
Question: Can I install ACE rom or do I need to wait?
What about other ROM including GENOCIDE Kernel? I would AT LEAST like to be able to overclock since I am rooted again? Will that work with the EC 05 update?

Though I read often, this is my first post. I just had to say thank you for your time and effort to make this update possible. With the OTA and the manual update.zip methods I received an "error 7" and could not get my phone to update. It was rooted and I had 2.1 but I don't think I had taken any bloatware off...though I can't be positive. After reading all these posts (trying to make sure I knew what I might be getting myself into as I have never done this before) I proceeded to follow your instructions. They were easy to understand and follow. I have to admit... I am overjoyed at how simple and perfectly this worked. I am now a happy camper with my Froyoed Epic! Thank you so very much.
