[Odin-EC05] Froyo EC05 Prerooted/CWM v2.5.1.0 RFS (Odexed)

Sweet. Thanks that worked. I think. Well it didn't, not completely. But it will. Probably. I updated my build, but the kernal and baseband are still the same. I probably skipped a step. I'll play around with it later. Thanks for the help :)

So then I do need to root the phone. Which is what I thought. I dont care about losing data once I move the files over to my sd card from the internal memory. Im just confused as to which steps are to be done on the computer/on the phone itself...im assuming that since im on vista32bit, that,i wouldnt need thhe 64 drivers.

To use Odin no. Debugging checked is only needed when doing ADB/OneClickRoot methods.

Ok, so before I go ahead Nd do this today, ive done alot of research on rooting the epic, and this seems to be the only way ive found to root it without losing internal data, if im wrong please let me know, I would rather have used Universal Androot, but it doesnt seem to support the sprint epic 4g, what would happen if I tried to use it anyway?........... z4root was the other option, but would you recommend this over that? Thanks

This would probably be your best option to go straight to EC05 rooted, cut and dry. Z4root, I'm not sure if it works anymore and its only a temp root. Universal Androot, not familiar with that sorry.

No you don't need to install the Android SDK.

You got the drivers installed you should be good to go...

after having done this I can do the free wireless tether ?
Yes. You may have to try different versions of the Wireless Tethering as some users laptops/computers are fussy and only like certain builds.

Ive run into a problem. my phone has always worked on my computer, and the drivers are installed successfully. but when i booted into download mode, the computer wont recognize the phone. No Yellow com light, And ive tried every usb port so now im on the black screen with the yellow triangle and it says ..."Do Not Turn Off The Target!!!" so i want to know if it is safe to shut my phone down, or if im screwed now.lol

Yes you can pull the battery and replace the battery you will be fine.

Try different cable if possible, also try pulling the battery and leaving it out of the device. Then hook up via cable and enter download mode and try to connect with Odin.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask a question to all of you experts out there. I don't know a lot about how this whole process works, but all I would like to do is root my phone and leave it basically stock. My main reason for rooting is to gain access to wifi tethering. Would this be the ROM that you guys would recommend for me?

Sorry.......I forgot to mention that I am currently stock EC05 if that matters.

If you want to simply remain stock with root for wireless tethering then I suggest you use the following thread.

[Root] Epic 4G Froyo & Eclair ClockworkMod v3.0.2.5 Switch Between RFS & EXT4

Follow the instructions and since your not interested in running custom ROMs, then there is no need to convert to EXT4. This does leave the door open in the future if you decide that you would like to move forward and run custom ROMs and convert to EXT4.

Afterwards you can go to the following thread to get information on Wireless Tethering.

Wireless Tethering

As usual, any questions please feel free to ask.

I'm on this EC05 version, but my root seems to have stopped working. When I run ShootMe or Wifi Tether, it doesn't work. I checked SU and it's all working fine and root appears fine for that, but apps aren't recognizing the root. I even downloaded Barnicle Tether to see if that would work, but same results.. it tells me to check to make sure I'm rooted. SuperUser loads though and show that it's granting access each time the app tries to run! any ideas?

I'm not on the EXT4. Just stopped at the CWM 2.5.1 using this package.

I even used Odin and rewrote the EC05x_DXC.tar.md5 from this thread back over the phone again. It all went through and passed, but it's still the same problem. SU grants permission, but apps don't think it's rooted.
