Thank you to everyone for posting tips and advice about rooting. I now have 2.6 with no problems. I Googled a bit to find the answer to this question but didn't find an answer -- can anyone define the symbols on the notification bar for me? They are different from my original ones.

The first one I know is Wi-Fi, the second (that looks kind of like a pointy letter B with a bow on the left side) might be 3G, the dot with the circle and four points on it is the GPS but what are the arrows and rectangle with arrows circling it? I also have Launcher Pro installed, which could make a difference in what I'm seeing...

There's definitely a voice on first boot. It was the sound and other enhancements that are missing until they get the kernel source. And 720p works fine here with SC 2.6 and the EB16 dummy kernel

thats curious enough,,,but i am not going to spend to much energy on it lol... anyway point is i wish we could get that voice everytime we booted,,,,

Are you running voodoo? Up until reading that previous post I thought it was exclusive to voodoo, and it was only on first boot during the process of installing voodoo.

EB16 is actually for the Mesmerize device so fascinate will never see this. it was pieced together with EB01, probably because it had some better code.

im not sure but even if it does its a chance it could be tracked ,,,safer to go with EB16 kernel w/dummy tethering module

works fine for me im running stock eb01 rooted

Nope, did not realize it was only on the Voodoo kernal.

Anyway someone could mod the new awesome boot animation with that?
