[Odin] Froyo leaked packaged custom ROMs w/root and clockwork **UPDATED**3/25

yup, you should be good. The drivers are usually the big issue since most people skip that step but it sounds like you shouldn't have any problems. Just download the 2.8 wipe version which will download as a .rar. Inside of that will be a .tar which is what you'll need to select in Odin so that's where WinRAR comes in. Make sure you get the little yellow box with COM # in it and you're ready to flash.

Hey all, after getting my replacement phone a few weeks back, I think I've just about decided to try and flash a ROM again. I want to make sure that I have the correct steps so I don't ruin this phone too. Please correct me if I have any steps wrong.

1) I have downloaded drivers from the link in the first post
2) I have downloaded ODIN to my computer
3) I have downloaded winrarx64 for windows 7 64 bit
4) I have downloaded update.zip

I have two questions, first, do I transfer the file update.zip just as it is to my sd card? or do i extract?

and second, is there a sc 2.9 tar file available yet? or would i use the 2.8 WIPE version, and then upgrade to the 2.9 through cwm?

sorry that's actually like 4 or 5 questions...

any info you gurus could give me would be GREATLY appreciated!!! thanks in advance to any replies!!!!

^^ this answers my update.zip question i think, just leave it as is and transfer it, yes?

Yes that answers the update.zip question. Leave it as is, don't unzip or extract it.

Second, just check the first post in this thread. If you don't see a 2.9 package listed it isn't available yet. Last I knew DroidXcon was still working on it.

You are exactly right about using the 2.8 wipe version then using cwm to go to 2.9. And here's your added bonus for today. If you want to do that, you don't have to download the update.zip file. Leave it off your sd card and phone completely. After you have followed DroidXcon's instructions and loaded up 2.8 and powered on your phone and everything is good, download the sc 2.9 zip file to your sd card and do the following:
Power off phone. Pull battery, open ODIN, connect phone and flash this file MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service in ODIN. Sc 2.9 includes this stable red cwm-all which does not have the error messages, but you have to flash it in ODIN to overwrite the current unstable red cwm. Do not boot your phone. Put the battery back in, hold down the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see the samsung logo flash twice, then let go of all three buttons as soon as you see it flash for the second time. You will boot directly to red cwm. Scroll to install zip from sd card and hit the power button, scroll to choose zip from sd card, power button, scroll to 2.9 zip file, power button, scroll to the only yes, power button. You will see some blue script flashing on the screen, don't panic that is normal and is letting you know the ROM is being installed. When it is done and you get the installation complete message, hit the soft menu key until you are back at the main red cwm menu where reboot system now will be highlighted, power button and wait for the phone to reboot. Now when you boot to recovery you will boot straight to red cwm-all every time without having to go through stock blue recovery.

  • Update.zip, yes, transfer it to the SD card, as is.
  • 2.9 isn't avail just yet. DXC is working on it. If you want to upgrade to 2.8 WIPE, you can do that until he has 2.9 Non-Wipe up there. Depends on how much patience you have in waiting. I for one, have very little.

If you have a 64 bit system, use these 64 bit drivers. I'm not sure if the drivers on the first post are 32 or 64 or a combo of both. But I know that these are 64 bit for sure.

RE: Guru, don't look at me. I'm just a troll.

Thanks alot, I appreciate the help! I have a crazy few days ahead of me, but wanted to make sure I had everything right before I dove in. Might be a few days before I try this, but I'll let everyone know how it goes when I do this.

Thanks again PJ

yeah, the installation file is probably in the zip. I usually just grab the drivers from the Samsung site since those are universal for windows(Samsung). I've used those on 2 Windows 7 x64 machines and odin'd with no issues.

update.zip goes straight to the sd card AS IS and make sure it's not under a folder.

2.8 is what you'll want to use and then you can just use the .zip file that Adrynalyne has posted in the other thread to get to 2.9.

haha. good job guys :p

Sorry about changing things up on you there guys. This is something I have been working on for a long time - our ability on nonvoodoo to boot directly to red, and it was solved very simply by our deity and savior Adrynalyne including the cwm-all in 2.9. I even wrote up a whole how to thread on doing this before, but it became irrelevant when flashing a ROM caused our phones to revert back to stock blue recovery because of the stock kernel in the ROM. I'm going to update that how to and bring it back to the front of the rooting forum. But for now you can read the instructions I laid out and start helping people do this so we don't have to bother going through stock blue recovery first and have to tell new rooters to use the home soft key with blue, but the power button with red. Thanks for all your help, all of you.

probably a dumb question, but I just extract on that drivers file correct?

No need to extract on the diver files especially if you get them from the Samsung site. Just download them then double click on the file to install. If I remember correctly the driver file has an exe file included which will do the install.

I'm still a fan of leaving the update.zip there. You never know when something might go wonky and you might need it. Better safe than sorry.

UPDATE sorry guys 2.9 is not up, i have been working on alot of stuff and have been having some personal issues, its been a bad last 2 days.. ill keep working on it tonight and hopefully standup and landshark can help me out in testing

Okay, thanks again!!!

Sorry about the confusion Bfascinated. Make sure to follow my steps in post # 2923 and don't save the update.zip to your sd card. I was editing some instructions I copied over from another post of mine to tailor the instructions to your situation while the other great helpers PJnc284 and Sud were helping you.

Are you still booting directly to red cwm without the bitmap error messages even with update.zip on the sd card? I haven't had a chance to test that yet?

That's for sure.... Just trying to cover all my bases before attempting. I'll keep them, but I'll try samsung's first I think.

No problem. The three of us have got it and we'll get everyone to 2.9 either directly if they are already on 2.8 or through your ODIN 2.8 first if they are coming from Eclair. This will run like clockwork (pun intended) as we are a well-oiled machine.

Hey guys I have a problem...it happens sometimes but not all the time...but it still annoying me so just asking if there's a way to solve this problem...the problem is that When someone calls me my phone display turns on and won't shutt off by itself after few seconds....any thoguhts??

I've been skipping blue and going straight to red for a while since I'm on voodoo. I flashed the 3.0 cwm from Rom Manager when Adrynalyne first tried the edify script so applying update.zip from red takes me to orange
