[ODIN] Official Froyo ED01 packaged custom ROMs w/Root - Updated 06/12/11

I really liked the battery life on SC 2.9.2, How is the battery life on ED01 debloated?

Personally for me it's fantastic! But other's aren't so fortunate it seems. Really it depends on your usage, what apps you have running, a still background compared to a live wallpaper, screen brightness, gps on/off, wifi on/off etc. There's a long list of things that affect battery life and there's also methods to help improve battery life! But no matter what battery life will vary from phone to phone (person to person). Here's a couple threads to get you familiar with common issues to battery life/improvement.

Use the two links in combination to learn some helpful information and how exactly to improve your battery life.

Enjoy! :)

I just flashed this and everything seems to be working, I came from SC 2.4. I will have to disable screen capture though because when I push the power button it takes a pic.

Sounds like you have the same problem with the back button as I do. I would like to ask tho, how do you disable the screen capture feature. I'd like to do that myself! Happens to be one of the things I don't know how to do yet lol.

Great work!!

Everyone should already know DroidXcon was the one who originally gave us Fascinate owners these ODIN packages. Unfortunately his phone became hard bricked when it fell off his desk while helping someone here in the forums. I offered to help, and DroidXcon spent several hours walking me through the necessary steps to create the ODIN packages. This once again demonstrates his selflessness and willingness to do anything to help us. So all credit goes to him, I am simply following his exact instructions and continuing his work.

[note]Besides DroidXcon, I want to also give credit where credit is due. Android Central Moderator Adrynalyne, one of the great devs working on the Fascinate among other phones, took time out of his busy schedule to Debloat, Debing, and Deodex the ED01 official Froyo OTA release, so we all weren't stuck with all that vzw and bing crud. Devs jt1134 and GizmoDroid collaborated and provided us with the current, functioning CWM linked to in this thread. So thank you so much to all four of you for everything you have done and continue to do for the Fascinate and the Fascinate community......[/note]

[warn]Android Central and I disclaim all liability for any harm that may befall your device, including, but not limited to: bricked phones, voided manufacturer warranties, exploding batteries, etc. We all flash things onto our phones at our own risk. Also if you are coming from a voodoo setup, you will need to disable voodoo lag fix prior to flashing. After clean install and full reboot, you can boot to cwm, flash your voodoo kernel of choice, then enable lag fix and reboot[/warn]

DroidXcon's original ODIN content here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-25-a.html
ED01 DB/DO original content here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tock-ed01-rooted-ed01-debloated-debinged.html
CWM-recovery-all-3-30-fix original content here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...od-superclean-roms-erasing-cwm-confusion.html

These packages contain the ED01 Debloated/Deodexed/Debinged rooted ROM from Adrynalyne, the EC01 modem/radio, cwm froyo, and Adrynalyne's EC10 kernel for now. There is no stand alone ED01 modem yet, so we have to make do with the EC01 modem for now. Same idea with the kernel. Just like DroidXcon's other packages, these are nonvoodoo only. I will make adjustments to the packages as things are released.

To install ODIN packages on your device
1.Download and install drivers on your computer HERE

2. Next you will need the ED01 Debloated/Deodexed Froyo tar file which will be placed in the PDA section of ODIN:
Debloated
Use this version if you are coming from an Eclair build (EA28, DL09, DH12, DI01.) This version will wipe your data, so make sure you back it up: ED01DB_DO_SHARK.tar Use this version if you are already on a Froyo Build (DL30, EB01, EC01, or stock ED01.) This version will not wipe your data: ED01DB_DOx_SHARK.tar

[tip]After downloading these files you will need to extract the .tar.md5 file from the .rar file. For visual aid instructions on "how to extract the file" and "how to use ODIN", see post #'s 3 and 4 of DroidXcon's original ODIN thread .[/tip]

3.) You will need to download the ODIN application tool found here ODIN or ODIN MIRROR
4.) You will also need the latest recovery, CWM-recovery-all-3-30-fix, download it HERE
5.) If your phone is plugged into your computer, unplug it now.
6.) If your phone is not powered down, power it down now.
7.) Remove battery from phone.
8.) Launch ODIN on PC.
9.) Plug USB cable into phone.
10.) Plug your Fascinate into the PC via the USB cable that came with your phone.
11.) Press and hold the volume down key until (approx 3 secs) you see a gigantic yellow triangle on your phone, and your phone will be in download mode. The first thin rectangle in the upper left of the ODIN applicate should also turn yellow and identify a com port. You can now release the volume key.

12.) Click on the PDA button in ODIN

Triple check that you pushed the PDA button. Do NOT click the Phone button prior to continuing to step 13. If you choose Phone, you will have bought your Fascinate a one-way ticket to hell.:mad:

13.) Find and double click on the ED01.tar.md5 file you downloaded in step 2 above & click the Start button. (This should take approx 3 to 6mins)
14.) Phone will power down when finished.
15.) Remove USB cable.
16.) Close, then reopen ODIN.
17.) Reconnect phone to USB cable as described above in step 11.
18.) Click on the PDA button in ODIN. (Don't forget the warning about making sure you clicked the PDA button)
19.) Find and double click the CWM-recovery-all-3-30-fix.tar file you downloaded in step 4 above & once again click the Start button. (This should only take 7 seconds)
20.) Phone will power down again.
21.) Close ODIN
22.) Reinsert battery.
23.) Power phone and wait to boot. (Should take approx. 4 mins)

Guidelines here are great. After the OTA update my phone had poor peformance. I followed your guide and things are working very well. Thanks so much for the work that has been put into this by you and all the other dev.

If you have Root Explorer it's easy to disable any app/ file that you don't want running. But before you do always make sure it's safe to disable that specific app/ file so you don't screw up your phone.

1. Go in to Root Explorer
2. Scroll down to "System" select it
3. Scroll down to "App" select it
4. Select " Mount R/O" at the top of the screen
5. Scroll down to " ScreenCaptureService.apk" long press it
6. Select "Rename"
7. Put .old after the .apk
8. Done, and that's how you disable any app/ file that you don't want running. And if you change your mind later just go back in to that app/file and remove the .old

Ah alright, yeah I figured that was probably the route I'd have to take in order to disable it. Just wondered if there was an easier method, but in all my testing I've found no easier way lol. Thank you very much though!

No prob, I'd like to find out which stuff that I could actually delete not just rename.

Yeah, I agree, that's one thing I haven't learned much about yet. I'll get there soon enough though I'm sure haha. Right now I'm just biding my time until the community rom or something else that catches my eye comes out. I feel experienced enough with all the previous roms/kernels/themes etc.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm sure the community ROM will be like SC and have all the bloat removed. But it would still be nice to have the knowledge of what can be removed and what can't.

I'm in total agreement with you. I love knowing all there is to know about something, takes away a little from the every day complications in life lol.

Root explorer is an excellent way to disable programs you don't want to use. You can also delete programs with it as well. I haven't seen a list posted as to what you can delete but it's my understanding that if you can disable it you can delete it. I personally wouldn't go that route unless you are having storage issues without getting more information from someone that has more experience than I do. Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah I know there's a thread in here somewhere that has a simple list of things that can be removed safely.. Will just have to search for it. It's not too hard of a process really. When I find the list I'll be sure to post a link to it for those that want to referance it.

Hey i thought you were taking the day off...

I thought I was taking the day off, but I guess not everyone else was. I figured it couldn't hurt to check on the thread, but the questions keep coming. I guess just bad timing of when I released the packages.

I see how everyone is stepping up. It's great to see, and gives everyone the feeling these forums are going to continue to be the best around. I get now why DroidXcon is always on the forums. It's tough to break away completely and cleanly. AC and the members here feel like home and family, and you want to keep coming back here. That being said, after seeing everyone step up and help out, I am really taking the rest of the night off and I'm going to sit back, enjoy a few glasses of wine, and let the forums just be......
Thanks everyone.

Your welcome Landshark. That sounds like a great plan and I totally agree about these forums. :)

Thanks to DroidXcon I finally pulled the trigger and rooted my Fascinate using Odin. I flashed Superclean 2.9 and am very happy with it. My question is, what are the specific differences between 2.9 and 2.9.2.? Is 2.9.2 the next progression of the version I have? And what is the deal with the recently released ED01? This is the current Froyo released by Verizon, correct? Should I flash this over my 2.9? I like having the most current software on my phone, but would I be taking a step backwards since it's not 'cleaned up' by the community developers? I am happy with the Superclean version and prefer my phone to be Samsung and Verizon software-free. If anyone could provide specific details of the differences between the three I would really appreciate it. It would help me decide if I want to 'update' my software. Thanks!

First off, yes 2.9.2 would be the progressed version to 2.9, meaning some bug fixes etc. ED01 is the official release by VZW, meaning it's fully bloated, but has android 2.2 etc. If you're comfortable with 2.9 that's fine, I do reccommend 2.9.2 as I never encountered an issue with it. Really that's about the simplest way I can put it for you :)

Guys, after reading this thread, I'm still lost. I was on sc2.9.2 and after flashing Landshark ED01 DB DOx I have bing running live and well. the rest is working fine.

Do I did something wrong or this is the way it should be?

Also, when I hit the power button to activate the airplane mode, I don't have the extra options like recovery.
