This is pretty dissapointing. I think Verizon would be better served to say NOTHING until the update is actually being pushed out. Oh well......

Its possible this is correct. The second installment of 2.1 was going to hit at 11:59pm

Maybe they fixed the bug and are going for the next scheduled release.

We'll see in the morning

that is lame that it didn't come out as expected. even if the info was leaked, the info seemed like it was definite and that they were confident in the release of it.

2 things have gone through my head at this point:

1) i cant believe how many new members there are because of this haha. i keep seeing peope who registered in march with under 10 posts. looks like this issue has benefited android central's forum

2) if the update doesn't come out by the end of today im curious to see how many people who have put off rooting (because the release of the update seemed so close) are just going to say "F_____ It" and just root their droid and load a 2.1 rom. this will be interesting

all i can say is that i feel bad for anybody who was looking forward to this the past few days, especially for the guy who took off from work just so that he could get the update.

I am willing to bet the number of rooted users will go through the roof tonight. Personally, I am running Bugless Beast by Pete and it is amazing. I have used it for about 2 weeks now and have not run into any issues that would make you think it was not a stock ROM. It is definitely something for people to consider if they really do want all of the benefits of 2.1 without the wait and nail biting that comes along with it. Rooting and loading a custom ROM is not as hard as many may think. There are many good videos on YouTube that can walk you through the procedure step by step and also provide links to the required files. The latest version of most ROMs are based on a leaked version of the 2.1 update, so they aren't pieced together and unreliable like many may think. Something to definitely think about folks.

Wants to root; Tried to root; Ish didnt work if anyone is willing to connect thru a msnger and doesnt mind walking me thru it I'd greatly appreciate it.

yeah ive watched so many vidz i feel like im goin in circles. at one point i thought i was bricking my phone and panic set in so i jus took it back to stock

interesting development.. didnt see it posted on here. VZWNetwork on twitter says no delay.

in reply to "# Aaaand... @MotoMobile and @VZWNetwork delay android 2.1 update to the droid... again about 6 hours ago via twidroid " from @benwoodall

Verizon had this to say:

# @benwoodall No delay-- starting with select test group first to avoid problems on upcoming rollout. More to come, stay tuned. about 3 hours ago via TweetDeck in reply to benwoodall

Rooting

I kept putting off ROOTING because the 2.1 update was coming......

Rooting tomorrrow. I want 5 screens, I want to play with the Active desktop. And one thing I want to do where you NEED to root.....WiFi Tethering.

Now I need to decide which ROM to download.....I played with Cooked ROMs in my WinMo days......I guess it's about time I did the same with the Droid. One reason its taken me so long.....its a damn fine peice of hardware & software. This is the longest I have had a Smartphone without slappin a custom ROM on it.

Use the droid mod app that you can get at their site DroidMod - Everything Droid doesn't, DroidMod does. that is the easiest way. Just root it through there and then follow the videos to install a rom. Don't install droid kid's Ron unless that's what you want. I would recommend Koush's 2.1 but to each his own.

What?!? This is the first I am hearing about a delay in 2.1, Although, come to think of it they had said I would get it in January...perhaps there is a small delay after all...

Ok so let's break this news...

In response to reports that Verizon Wireless had suddenly delayed its planned roll-out of the Android 2.1 update for the Motorola Droid, Verizon reached out to Phone Scoop. Spokesperson Thomas Pica said in an email, "The Android 2.1 upgrade for the Droid by Motorola was deployed to a small number of Verizon Wireless test users as scheduled. It is expected the broader phased rollout to all Droid by Motorola users will take place, but not just yet. No date scheduled yet." This message is essentially the same as the one provided yesterday by Verizon Wireless. Users should not expect their devices to update today or at any time during the next several days.

I smell something here and it doesn't smell good for us Droid users

I think we all just need to be more patient.

The statements that 2.1 would be released today doesn't mean that everybody gets it today. We're all too used to instant gratification.
If in a week, we all don't have 2.1, then I think we can call foul. But it's too soon.

Actually when you look at their timeline 10,000 people should have it by now, or soon. So ummm FOUL

With well over a million Droid users, 10,000 isn't all that many.
I agree, I wish there were more transparency in the way this is all going down, but I just think that everybody needs to calm down a little.
We don't need this update to fix anything vital for our use of the device, so I'm just going to take it when I get it. I'm glad we even get updates, as rare and inconsistent as they are.

**** this Droid ****, I hated getting kicked in the balls once the Nexus One was announced, I hated seeing the stories about how Motorola is not all that great with Android anymore, and I really hate these software updates.

Folks, 2.1 is not happening. If it does, it will be half assed and there will still be plenty to bitch about. Motorola sure shot themselves in the foot over this.
