Don't really know if this means much but if you went to the VZ support page for the Droid a couple days back the upgrade instructions showed the OS to be the 2.01, but if you go into it now you can see the ESE53 (or what ever it's called). Now there is no indication anywhere on there that 2.1 is available and I don't want to make anyone think that that's what I'm saying I just thought that was an interesting update on VZ behalf. Hopefully that's a good sign of things to come.

601 Posts on something that doesn't even exist yet, nice. Only 6 days till the end of Q1, which at that point I would consider 2.1 officially delayed, as it was suppose to launch in Q1. Of course we all know there have been several failed launches for one reason or another. It appears mostly to be because whoever was hired to develop it for moto and vzw seems to lack the skill to complete the task in a timeline, without bricking the phone.

Of course if you are like a me (total tech junkie...if you are reading this you probably are) you are the primary on your account and are able to get a new phone every year for 20 bucks. We got the phone at launch so that was November so nearly half way through our year to a new phone anyway...

I've heard of the NE2 program, but not being able to get a new phone yearly for $20. Could you point me to somewhere I can find more information on this program?

Thanks!

I think he was talking out his butt on the new phone for $20 every year.

Back on topic -- Any new news or reports of this 2.1 update? It sure has been quiet. Quiet before the storm??

That ESE53 update screenshot has been there since Monday, I think.

That page went up a day or two before the officially canceled rollout date of last Thursday, March 18th.

It really is a new level of w-t-f-ism for Big Red to have a page up touting the new and improved phone OS...that you can't get, and there is no projected plan for when one might be able to get it.

Oh well, as long as that's still there, I guess there's hope that they're actually trying to make it go. If they remove that page, or revert to the old 2.0.1 page...then I reckon we're DOOMED, committed to lead lives as rootin'-tootin' rooting outlaws.

Quiet before the unknown it seems.

Verizon is going to whisper this bad boy out to everyone.

We'll learn of it when people on here start screaming like wee girls at the sight of a "update now?" icon.

No he's not. With a price plan of 49.99 or above at 12 months into your contract you can do what's called an early upgrade which is like the new every two BUT you do not get any ne2 credit. You only get the new customer pricing of the phone, any rebates and are charged a $20 early upgrade fee.

*EDIT* Forgot to add it does extend your contract 2 years like any upgrade. As far as 2.1 I'm not holding my breath any time soon. Its the storm1 all over again. In the year and a half I used it there were only 2 official updates. The Droid already got one. It'll be a few months before we see the next. Thank big red not moto or Google.

I totally misread what he said. I stand coorected. I thought he could get a new phone for only $20.00 every year. I guess thats true if you find a free phone + the $20.00 early upgrade fee.

Thanks for the clarification!

Back on topic -- No update yet? huh! What did I expect....

No worries. I misread things all the time, LOL. I just wanted to help clarify so people know this hidden option is available. Big red isn't proactive about letting their customers know about it.

I doubt there'll be any update this week. If there were test updates last night some info would have leaked about it by now.

Who knows really.

Perhaps the few that got it (if) are being quiet about it.

I'm sure if its not this week it will be very soon after. Otherwise why would VZW leave the PDF regarding ESE53 up on their website?

Why does everyone keep posting that link? I'm pretty sure everyone has seen it by now.

Leandro P.: Hi, my name is Leandro P.. How may I help you?
Frank Stover: I was just wondering when the 2.1 update for the Droid was coming out?
Leandro P.: Let me help you with this
Frank Stover: Do you guys have a specific time-frame or date?
Leandro P.: It is coming soon, but we do not have an exact date or time frame.
Leandro P.: The Android 2.1 upgrade for Droid by Motorola has been deployed to a small number of Verizon Wireless test users. It is expected that the broader phased rollout to all Droid users will begin shortly thereafter.
Frank Stover: ok, does that mean in a week or in a month roughly? any idea?
Leandro P.: I could not tell you an exact time frame, but the original idea was to do it before the Q1 2010 ended.
Frank Stover: ok thanks. Does it look like you guys will meet that original goal?
Leandro P.: I think it does look like that.
Frank Stover: Thats great news! Thanks for your help.
