Official Battery Life Thread

Moderate to heavy use. Extended battery. Some 4g lots of wifi. I am at 16 hours and need a charge. I feel like that is pretty darn good. By the way l love this phone.

Damn man, with my extended Im on some 4g and more 3g and Im at about 6.5 hours with 15% left

The jury is still out for me on the battery life.

My biggest issue so far is how long it takes to charge from battery depletion to the point at which it will let you power up the phone - it took me more than 1.5 hours this evening on the AC adapter that came in the box before I was able to power it up at all.

Contrast that to my BB Bold, which took about 10 minutes before it had enough juice to be able to use it while it charged, and the iPhone which typically took less than 10.

It is a material problem for a phone that you're likely to fully deplete on a regular basis due to pretty poor battery life, if you can't use the phone for more than an hour when you're on the charger.

Is this standard behavior for Samsung phones or is this normal?

Thanks,
Greg

Greg, you may want to try another adapter. Shouldn't take that long. After 1.5 hours, what % was your battery at?

100%. Some glitch that won't allow it to boot until it's fully charged. I've tried multiple adapters with the same result, unfortunately.

I just got off the phone with the VZW tech support folks. He told me that they are aware that there are software issues with charging. He had seen one other report like mine, and they're definitely aware of quite a few people reporting an issue with a phone being plugged in but the s/w not detecting a charge (e.g., no "lightning bolt" charge symbol).

They're apparently working on a software update to deal with the charging issues, but there's not an ETA yet for the fix.

If nobody else reports the same issue here, I'm going to try to swap my phone out, in case my particular issue is phone specific.

I let mine shut off by itself today. it was at 1% and then powered off. I plugged it in within a minute and it came on. It does take a really long press to get it to fire up though.

Currently sitting at 10 hours and 70%, all wifi, no calls, but pretty moderate usage including facebook, setting up and perusing the new google currents, a few texts, those kinds of things.

13 Hours with fairly heavy usage by my standards. I've played more than a few hours of GunBro's today.

Note: This is with the extended battery, on wifi 95% of the time. This is only the second full discharge of the extended battery though, so life may or may not improve.

Just noticed I had backup and restore options checked on my phone. Wonder how much battery those ate up. Guess Ill find out cause I sure dont want my passwords and data backed up constantly to Googles servers lol.

To turn off 4G, go to "Settings > "Wireless & Networks" > "More" > "Mobile networks" > "Network Mode", there you will see "Preferred network mode" LTE/CDMA or CDMA pick the one you want and you should be good to go.

Cheers:)

16 hours? WTF? there is not a phone on the planet that will get 16 hours. not even a 4S. You do realize that the 4S with dual core and multitasking is not near as good as the 4. in fact it has 50 hours less standby time in its specs. not sure how much less talk time. it is just a fact of life. you are expecting something completely unrealistic. you do realize that the nexus has a 4.65" HD screen right? Four point six five!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HD Super Amoled. im afraid you bought the wrong phone! im also afraid you wont be happy with any phone other than the bland tired 4 you have now.

Just FYI many people on all sorts of Android devices, iPhones, etc get well over 16 hours OFF BATTERY from their devices. I'm not talking 16 hours of USAGE. Please don't get them confused.

23 hours 30 minutes off charger and 4 hours 40 minutes of USAGE!!!!

I am blown away coming from my original post where I was going through my 2100 extended battery in 10 hours off charger and 2 hours of usage. This is on wifi most of the time, LTE off, screen at 25%. This was fairly heavy usage of texting, web surfing, fb, market, etc. After my horrible battery life I did a factory reset and the only app I've added so far is Wallet. I'm hoping to achieve similar numbers today. If I can repeat this today I will then start slowly adding apps back, noting any changes to battery life.

I wonder what the factory reset did in the settings to change battery life. That's a pretty drastic change.

I got 12+ hours with 27% left with normal use. No extended battery and gps left on and screen at half bright. Just as good as my iphone 4s

or...better yet... install the LTE Switch app and put it on your home screen. One push takes care of the first 3 steps mentioned above.

Probably because you were on Wifi. Being off 4G saves a lot of juice from GN. I reached 40hrs during the last weekend, entirely on Wifi, light usage (1hr on-screen time). Too bad that I didn't save the screenshot of 40hr. However, I did post some screenshots of 24hr (at 50% battery) somewhere on the forum.

i did this but my data is completely cut off. is there a way to just have 3G data speeds?

EDIT: nevermind, it took about a minute to connect to a 3G network.
