Official Battery Life Thread

So i was wondering why the battery is sucking so bad. Been using the phone normally...few calls, some downloads here and there. Within 2hrs down 25%. Then i noticed on the battery use section within the settings the gps was on...but no icon in the notification area. I toggled it, and the icon never came on. Can this be whats killing the battery? Maybe its an ICS thing? Anyways, looks like our phones come with gps turned on, as well as googles track location services. Boooo! Time will tell. More to come.i also dont have 4g yet

GPS is a definite battery hog if it infact was on. If you dont have 4g, make sure to set to CDMA only - that will help battery life.

Wow - to the person who got 11.5 hours - I am impressed. I got 8.5 hours down to 5%. I know - it is just the second battery cycle, but I am a little nervous and thinking about picking up the extended battery (or the standard battery and charger/stand).

I wish there was an app or something in the settings that could show you a little bit more granularity when it comes to some of the battery hogs. For example - what is "Android OS" and what programs/services does it include?

What kind of signal strength are you guys with complaints seeing compared to your old phone? I'm still on my TBolt. FWIW, the battery life sucked bad on it when I got it. I rooted it, am running MIUI and leankernel set to undervolt and SA governor and it improved my battery life big time.

I just put the extended battery in, but the stock wasn't horrible, 5-6 hours with heavy use (bluetooth streaming audio for an hour included). A year with the Thunderbolt will temper your expectations that way.

Just crossed 12 hours on the phone and right now at 65% left on the extended battery: light use day really, but 4G and WiFi on all day - I pressed the side power button when I wasn't using it and picked it up when I got an email. Over a hundred emails sent and received today, at least twice I used it for an hour continuously.

So, I have been in two very strong signal 4G areas all day, is this the factor? I also slid the "Recently Used apps" off to the side when I was done each time, clearing them out of memory.

Maybe I'll stop by a VZW store and pick up an extended battery if you can get over 12 hours out of it and still have 65% charge (since they're sale)!

Still would like to see the stock battery "settle" down a little more in the next few days, as well.

I'm now down to 20% on the stock battery at 8h 11m off charger. This includes now watching two youtube videos, taking some pictures, and browsing the web and the market. Still clearing all apps after use.

Has anyone tried JuiceDefender with the Nexus? I know it helped immensely with my Droid, but not sure if it still works the same with ICS being so different.

Also, my battery is not very good either. Turning off 4G helped, but I've still had to charge it 4 times since I bought it yesterday :\

Just ordered my Nexus

I won't get it until Tuesday, but I have Juice Defender Plus (not Ultimate) and it helps with my dinc which gets/ got horrible battery life.

I am very disappointed with the battery life so far, it make my old Droid X look like a champ! Last night I plugged it in at like 20% and woke up with it only at 47% then had to restart the phone a few times for it to continue charging then like 2hrs later it was at 100%. I took a picture and MMSed it and I was already down to 96%. An hour later I was at 87% and it was just sitting in my pocket (LTE turned off). I finally had to go into the settings when it ate through another 5% in 2 minutes on the browser to turn off data on mobile network. I think there is obviously something wrong with the battery or the phone looking for a network constantly, there is no reason that a phone should go through battery that fast!!

If you had your phone charging overnight and it only gained 27% then something is wrong. I would head to Verizon if I were you.

Mine lasted for about 12 hours today, using the stock battery (just bought it last night). I deliberately burned off the last 12% or so watching 25 minutes or so of streaming Netflix. Moderate use most of the day; I was at work so the phone spent a fair amount of time idle. About 10 of the hours in a 4g area, the rest on 3g/wifi.

I had 4G on all day watched a couple videos, light gaming and web browsing and I got about 9.5 hours. The breakdown said that my screen was on 2 hours and 15 mins. I am going to get the wxtended battery but I think that these numbers are acceptable for now.

I think the signal strength is really hurting my battery. I have the extended and got about 9 hours of use. I checked the battery setting and for "phone" info, had 66% of the time with no signal. So basically all day long my phone is searching for service which really hurts.

Stopped by Verizon store tonight and I think I answered my own question from earlier-signal strength is terrible on the phone. Held my TBolt next to it, TBolt on 4G was showing about -73, Nexus was -99. I watched both for a while, and strength disparity continued.

2100mah - 13.5 hours what I would call "light use". Disappointed really... sometimes my days are 17 hours and I'd really like to be able to get through a long day with medium use.

1) how do you clear apps after use?

2) If I run my screen at 100% I'd go blind - I'm at about 40% which seems perfect.

I went from the tbolt, to the bionic, and now the nexus. The nexus definitely has noticeably worse reception than either of my last 2 phones. Which I believe is part of my battery drain.

Not heavy use, two phone calls. One was about 10 min and the other was 5 min. Checked facebook and a couple blogs for about 10 min. Not heavy use, but not so bad. Way better than my OG

I have no issues with battery life. Today was a relatively light day. Mostly on wifi all day, and from my perspective this phone is getting as good, or maybe better battery life than the iPhone 4S. No complaints here.

This is my first day of somewhat normal use for me and here's what I got:

About 2.5 hours of real use (surfing the web, texting, emailing, talking, messing with the people app)
Most of the use was on wifi
I left the LTE radio on when I went out today for about 3 hours but I didn't do anything that would use data (other than background)
Screen brightness is set at about 33%

I'm now at about 17% battery life after 12.5 hours on the battery. Not bad. Not great but not bad.
