Official Froyo Update Instructions for Samsung Captivate - It's Here!

It was installed in x86 running W7, 64-bit

I get the error "MiniLauncher has stopped working" when I plug in the Captivate and the program force closes.

I did reboot after the isnstall. I've even done a re-install after a System restore to clear the registry and get the same thing.

I've tried rebooting the phone and computer, run it as Administrator and in the XP compatibility mode. Nothing works.

I contacted Samsung and they just said "Kies mini is not supported in 64-bit OS" - but I've seen everywhere people successfully upgrading in 64-bit, so I don't buy it.

I don't know what else to do...
I'm running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium with no problems. One more thought, are you using a USB port on the computer or a hub? Use USB from the computer direct. And are you using the USB cable that came with the phone charger?

I'm plugging directly into the computer with the data cable that came with the phone.

That's the exact operating system I'm running. I don't get it. Like I said, I don't know what to do... Plenty of people - now including you - have installed with 64-bit.

Kies mini just won't launch for me, no matter what. So damn frustrating. I'm almost there!

Have you tried running it as administrator?

Have you tried:
Right click on the Kies Mini shortcut

Go to Properties and click on "Compatibility"

Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the pulldown

Click "OK"

Also, do you have many apps running when you're running Kies mini? Or are the memory hogs? Try closing everything else then re-open Kies mini and connect the phone.

Take the battery out, power the phone back, then press the power, volume up and down buttons at the same time. In the menu you will see clear all user data. Do that and then reboot.

Thanks!! Worked, but lost all data!! :'( Oh well! At least my phone works! :)

Sideloading disabled? Like 2.1?

Anyone know if AT&T has disabled Sideloading of Apps, with 2.2, like they have with 2.1?

I used OCD (One Click Decripple) to get that feature back on my 2.1 Captivate, and already have USB and Wifi tethering on 2.1, so am trying to see if/how I should "upgrade" to 2.2.

So far, my Captivate is plenty fast for me, and with an UNLIMITED data plan, I have noooo desire to play AT&T more (ie $45), for less (a capped plan).

Just tried that and same thing...

Here's what I get every time:

Any luck in getting KIES NOT to cash in Windows 7 64 bit when it is ready to push update out?

Not sure, as I had rooted my phone gone in changed that little line in the code to "1" allowing it download third party apps NOT in the marketplace. That seemed to stay in place when I upgraded so either the update didn't overwrite that or they removed that block.

I've already passed the post in which one of you said to try a different USB port, I want to thank you as well!!
I thought my phone was bricked, as upon attempting to update error's had occured. I kept trying and eventually switched the ports and got it to finally update!

Now I'm stuck at the flowing S GalaxyS screen... lol.

*edit*I went back and was re-reading about just waiting, and it came back online.

I've waited so long for this moment.

Update complete. The changes to device speed were negligible. Oh, what a shocker: USB and wireless tethering require adding it to your plan. I'll try it out for a day and if it's no better on battery life and overall performance, it's back to Cognition for me.

Does this mean that PdaNet won't work without assessing you a tethering plan? That's a real deal breaker for me sadly.

I'm stuck on "Downloading...Do not turn off Target!!!" What do I do?

Thanks

I am at the same point.

After "downloading binaries" the phone goes into downloading phase, my computer pops up a USB error saying the device has malfunctioned. After a minute or 2, Kies says the updated failed and to disconnect the battery and reboot.

I have tried this 3 times with 2 different USB ports.

I pulled the battery and tried it again. Same problem. Then I pulled the battery and tried it again. Same problem. Getting tired of this merry-go-round. Is this "update" even worth this hassle? Why can't this be sooo much easier? I have to download this driver, install this, connect that, push these buttons at the same time... and then there are many more steps. Ridiculous.

Eight pages to this thread... and we aren't even through the first day of this update. This should not be this complicated. I have followed all the steps on the Samsung website carefully and it is not working. There should be one button: Click here to upgrade to 2.2.

We went to the friggin' moon decades ago! But update my Android phone? Impossible!

Update took about 15 minutes total, including Kies download. So far, so good. Speed seems better and the quick picks in the pull down are nice. I'll give it a run through tonight. FYI...Be sure phone is fully charged...had to wait forever for this part...arggghhh! Anyway, forum did help when the Kies didn't recognize my phone (even though phone said it was connected). Right click on Kies in the start menu and run as administrator (worked perfectly). Glad I read through this forum while my phone charged up...all my issues (one) were addressed here! Now...where's my gingerbread!
