Official Gingerbread for the Captivate?

Okay so I just did a factory reset (though did something wrong 'cause all my photos are still there) and I discovered that if you have anti-shake turned on, the SCN options go away. Strange. But if you turn it off, you have access to all the shooting modes again.

i had to turn off anti-shake AND auto-contrast to get those options.

Maybe it's all those special options? I only ever had anti-shake on so I'm not sure about the auto-contrast option. I think it's weird you can't use those with shooting modes anymore.

Is anyone else experiencing bugs? I'm experiencing a lot:

-swipe glass to unlock/drag puzzle piece messages on lock screen aren't going away.
-lag and choppiness scrolling through photos in the gallery
-camera app brightness automatically set to highest brightest setting possible with no way to change it
-can no longer select scene modes in camera (night, sunset, snow/beach, etc.)
-every time I switch between wifi and 3G the phone freezes and then a force close error about tethering pops up.
-can no longer double tap words to edit in swype

and that's just what I've noticed in 24 hours. Is this just my phone or are other people experiencing this? I love the gingerbread theming (though a bit disappointed the silent/vibrate option is gone from the notification tray) but it's a shame I have all these problems.

After your factory reset are you still getting the "tethering" error? My phone only had it show up a few times before it went away forever. Also were you rooted before upgrading to GB? Just curious.

Good to know about the turning off anti-shake option to get the SCN mode to enable again.

^I was rooted stock 2.2 before applying the update--no issues. Camera "scenes" work after turning off anti-shake.

Sent from my Samsung Captivate using TapaTalk.

No, luckily I haven't had the tethering error since. Though I haven't been on wifi yet to be honest - that's usually when I got the error.

And no, I was running stock 2.2, whatever samsung released last February.

i haven't had a message come through yet that i haven't answered, so i haven't gotten the puzzle piece yet.

i did notice that you can swipe the screen in any direction, side to side, up or down to unlock it now.

i saw someone mention something about the brightness of the camera the other day, but sorry, i don't remember what all they said.

on my reboot, i got the tethering message, but i don't tether so it wasn't an issue for me. i've seen several say something about the tethering message and force close and they have to close it about 3 times and then it seems to work. now i use the option in the notification tray to turn off and on wifi and use 3G but i haven't had a tethering message doing that.

I've seen the tethering message twice and both times I was unplugging from my laptop (I was charging the device this way) when I received it. Other than that everything seems to be working well. Oh and I didn't lose any data from the update either...

So am I the only one whose "swipe glass to unlock" message on the lock screen won't go away? I guess it doesn't really matter, but it's driving me crazy lol.

is your phone unlocked and still showing that message?

Oh no, just when it's locked. But all other OS updates I did only showed that message for the first few times. Same with the puzzle piece message. I don't need my phone to tell me to slide the puzzle piece over to view my message every single time I get a text. Again, it's not that big of a deal, I just hate clutter so it drives me crazy lol.

No it does matter...that would drive me nuts too..in fact it's bugging me enough to want to know why?

oh...hmmm, doesn't go black? i'm assuming you checked your screen timeout settings?

i'm going to have to check that puzzle piece thingy...

Ok, tested it. I got a text, got the puzzle piece with instructions on the screen to drag the puzzle piece and it all worked.

You might want to live chat with Samsung and ask them. Sometimes they are very helpful...not always, but sometimes.

Oh I mean it all works, I just don't understand why the instructions still appear at all. With the 2.2 update, the message went away after doing it for the first time. The only thing on the lockscreen was the date and time at the bottom.

OHHHHH...now I understand.

Yup, the instructions are there for me always. When I go to unlock my phone, it always says "swipe to unlock" and each text message shows the instructions for unlocking the puzzle.

I'm guessing that is just stock with this update.

One a side note, have you noticed the graphics being more sharp and the colors richer on the notification screen? Mine is and I haven't noticed that big of a change with anything else. I also haven't run a youtube vid yet to see if that looks better. Seems that way on my app screens also. Looks much better.

Yeah it must be, kind of annoying but oh well.

I haven't really noticed anything being richer or sharper, just different theming all around, which I like. They also changed some of the colored boxes behind apps in the app tray, which is nice. And youtube looks the same to me. The update said we could now watch them in vertical mode, but I've able to do that for almost a year now lol.

I always watch mine in vertical mode lol

I just found out the other day how to change the 4 buttons in the bottom tray without installing an app to do that and I've had this phone about a year lol. I also found an app a couple of months ago that is a screenshot app that does work for non-rooted Captivates and is only like $3.99 if anyone is interested.

The app is also a download and go app, nothing to add from your computer and no hooking it back up to your computer to start it again if you reboot.

After reading numerous threads on this so called "upgrade", I'm wondering why do this upgrade from 2.2 and lose root, as well as inherit what seems to be many bugs?

I'm not sure there are so many bugs. The only one I'm really aware of is the tethering message and that doesn't seem to happen to everyone.
