I honestly don’t think this updated did anything other than remove the free tethering. I have not noticed any increase in speed or signal strength. Maybe a small increase in wifi range but its hard to tell for sure.

My signal doesn't seem much if any better today. Actually I had like 46% time without signal. That's worse than usual at work. After I was finally able to update my profile and prl I still have the same prl as I've had since launch. Not seeing any real improvement. I drop calls constantly in the building before and after. I tried the battery pull tonight, we'll see if that'll help any tomorrow.

Re: [Official] July 25th Update - Links first post, and/or page 7

Nexus Noob here, but I just rooted my phone (after 2.3.5) and thought my tether would work again, but as soon as I start tethering, it drops data and comes back after i turn off the hotspot. I installed a rooted tether app from the market that works fine (ad-hoc) but I have to assume 2.3.5 is blocking up the kernal for the native tether app or something..can anyone explain please? Do I need to flash the radio?

I did the manual update to 2.3.5, updated my PRL and Profile, pulled battery and did some tests both before and after update. It appears my WiFi speed has increased but my 3G data connection has got worse. I can't get 4G at home so I can't test those speeds. I've never had an issue with call drops anywhere - never dropped one in 2 months since I got the phone actually.

So... I guess this update is meh. Increased WiFi speed is nice but never had any lag with it before. 3G speed increase would've been nice when I'm not in 4G area, not a decrease.

The one thing I was most excited for wasn't included in the update - a 4G toggle widget!

Guess what just happened to mine after a battery pull? (only the EvDo Rev part)

Tested my 3g on speakeasy again just a couple of minutes ago, and the speeds are much faster than the day before, when I finished performing the update. The results ranged from 600-1200 kbps. I'll test it again later today.

I was totally waiting for this to drop before switching to the NS4G from my EVO3D. Now with the removal of the free wifi hotspot, I'm not so sure anymore.

Really wanted to get on vanilla android without root but the NS4G hardware just wasn't there. The only enticing reason was the free wifi hotspot. With that gone, I guess I'll wait patiently for the permanent root to arrive on EVO3D.

Has any one gotten the update OTA? Or is everyone on the flashed version?

I downloaded the leaked file but chose not to install. As of today however, my phone has not yet received the OTA update notice so I guess there are many others that hasn't yet. Given the mixed reviews about this update, quite frankly I am in no rush to update either...

I agree with BlackHawk, I am giving up on GB, so far it has been the buggiest OS release from Google to date - problematic on my Evo as well. I have decided to forgo OS 2.3 on my Epic - if it ever materializes that is.

Yeah, the free tethering was important for me too - did not use it much, but it was nice to know it was there - unfortunately, 30 days have expired since I picked it up; of course they remove tethering after it's too late. Bah.

Re: [Rumor] July 11th Update

If they wanted to cripple the tethering they would have done it before releasing the phone and Google wouldnt have allowed that anyway since it's a pure Google device. It doesn't even say Sprint anywhere on it.

So yeah, sure, they COULD technically, technology-ly cripple the tethering, but they won't.
Free mobile hotspot thru the phones tethering will be disabled thru this update, only subscribers that have the $29.99 hotspot plan can use it.

I haven't received the update, nor have I flashed it, not rooted. I'm in MA if that makes a difference. Not sure if they're sending the update out state by state or randomly.

Gingerbread has been my favorite release and the most stable for me.

Is there a difference b/w flashing or the OTA update once installed?

If I flash the update on my phone will I be able to receive future OTA updates?
