It's visible on the home screen and anywhere the navigation bar is transparent. That's why my 2XL was dropped in the mail for a return today.

I had mine for 4 days with regular use. Loved it, didn't care about the blue screen, and actually preferred the toned down colors. I did the gray screen check and there was burn in on the bottom of the screen and I could see the soft keys. I tried running a video to remove it but it was still there afterwards. My partner who works in tech said if he was in my position, he would return it since it could become a bigger issue later on. I exchanged mine for the smaller Pixel 2.

There will be a firmware update to calibrate the new display hardware!

LG V30 has identical (6" P-OLED Fullvision) display it's working fine!

A new firmware update and Android 8.1 Oreo OS the phone will be fine!

Android 8.1 was supposed to come with the phone!

Hopefully this update comes soon! It's too bad that this is happening with the Pixel 3 line. They have such potential... So hopefully this helps clear things up for Google.

Basically what I did, but I went back to my note 8. I'll revisit the 2xl once Google responds to the issues.

Ironic that he said he wanted Google to succeed so Apple will have competition and be up on their toes to give consumers the best. And then he settles for a phone that has less than mediocre screen.
