OMG-Folks must be crazy!!

Like I have told my wife (who uses her Fascinate on 3g...) She may not use much data now, but once everyone is on 4g LTE, their data usage WILL increase. I rarely used over 2gb/month when on 3g phones, but now that I am on 4g (when 4g isn't friggin dropping suddenly...) I find I easily use over 6gb in a month and not even really trying.

And to try to go with share plan with teenagers??!! No friggin way!!!!!

Wife n I are on unlimited data and plan to stay that way.

how can you do that under the new plan though? i just talked to a rep and she said that once the contracts are up, you HAVE to go with the new share plans.

are you just gonna pay extra for unlimited?

I was going to switch, but......… I'd rather have LTE now and not have to wait any longer so I ordered the GS3.

In two years when they aren't the only game in town, See ya! Even if everybody is on tiers, I'll go elsewhere.

I'm already planning my escape as I type. I feel just like Katie Holmes.

Once my contract time is up, I just keep going on a month to month deal. I will buy phones off of eBay or craigslist. According to current language, the only way for me to lose unlimited data is if I buy a new phone at the subsidized price with New contract.

If they change that and strip me of my unlimited data, ill leave and go pre paid.

I know some are finding this out saying "well i just go to sprint! they have unlimited everything!" but A) i've heard their network is terrible and B) how much longer can they really keep doing that?

lets not forget the massive early term fees. i have 1 phone shut off with billing. to shut it off completely for the rest of the contract (nov) it would be $160.

By my self, from my normal use I'm at 2.5 gigs for the month. My wife, maybe 1- 1.5.

I have a $10 text plan and a 700 minutes plan with 2 other lines.

How the heck is this going to be good for me?

Several years ago you would probably had a 1000+ minute plan (before the free mobile to mobile) plus charge you more for text. Data back then was mostly an add-on. People bought phones to use as phones and paid for voice.

Today people don't value minutes, few go through their minutes. When is the last time you heard AT&T mention their roll-over minutes. Now Data is what people want, since it is in demand the phone companies are shifting away from their prime seller being minutes to their prime product being data.

I don't like the transition since like most people I find data a key value of my phone. But Verizon knows this and is changing to sell what people value most. Personally I would not mind the new plans if they were not so tight - I think starting at 1GB for $50 is pretty crazy, I think it should at least be 2 GB for a start.

Its a phone company not a wife - Easy to switch when the contract expires, and you don't have to fire you husbands spies sorry body guards. I have been on AT&T, Sprint, Verizon back to AT&T and now back to Verizon. Easy to move. I keep my family contract synchronized so we can all move at one time.

I personally like the idea of the new share plan, but the data for the price is pretty crazy. If it was just a little higher I would switch, but right now we would be just about 10-20 more to have the data on the new plan. If it was the same I would switch since my daughters don't use a lot of data.

Yeah, I think the new data plans are a bit absurd, despite the lowered costs for voice/text. I would have jumped on board almost immediately if the share everything plans for phones matched the plans for data only devices. Unfortunately, they manipulated the pricing model to shift the major cost from voice/text to data. As a result, light data users are not getting the break they were hoping for. Heavy data users are now going to really pay for it. Everyone else is going to pay close to what they paid previously with the majority paying marginally less to encourage people to migrate over to the new plans.

Sadly, i don't think there's much value to be gained out of jumping ship. Sprint might offer unlimited everything plans but they cost $99/month($90 on a family plan) and you lose a lot of coverage and reliability. What good is unlimited if you can't use it. T-Mobile is cheaper but you are throttled after using so much data instead of paying overages and the coverage isn't as good. Then you have AT&T which is similar to Verizon in total cost, but in most areas coverage and reliability are poorer. Prepaid is another option, but phone selection is atrocious and none of them have LTE.

Supply and demand.

I will need someone to clarify this: if you buy a phone, a "verizon" phone from ebay, craigslist, etc...then you DON'T have to give up your unlimited data? how would that work? and what constitutes a "verizon" phone? I assume that it has to be a phone from their network, but is there any other criteria?

also, those of you who are saying this is somehow a good deal, you're not looking 'big picture'. eventually, EVERYTHING will be driven by data, and soon. unlimited talk and text will be as much use as a VHS VCR. Verizon and the other Carrier corporate Heads know we have little to no discipline, and they are waiting with bated breath for us to "easily" blow past our 2GB limits. I go by 2GB usually within two weeks, by myself. it's all about making money for Verizon. I'm sure that even if my idea of buying phones from craigslist works, they will still figure out a way to yank my unlimited data eventually.

From me, your going to get the comment, I have 2 years of unlimited data, will decide then what to do. In 2 years, verizon wont be the main player in 4G. For now, I will enjoy 2 years of unlimited data on my 8 lines.

This is verizon though, I am not holding my breath of keeping unlimited for 2 years, I am sure they will find a way to get the rest off some how. Verizon is the king of taking things away carrier, they are getting good at it, and untill they start losing cusomers in the masses, they will get better.

Yeah just fyi, if you upgrade just one line, you will lose unlimited data on all lines

If I'm on a 700 minutes plan can i still bump up to 1400 on heavy use months like I have been for years? Or am I stuck?

I had an interesting experience at a vzw store today. Posted it in another thread.

Yes, by making no changes to your contract you can keep your unlimited data. You can buy the phones direct from Verizon if you want, just don't get a discount on the phone.

One thing to point out is that nothing prevents Verizon from throttling existing unlimited data customers on 3G or LTE who use what Verizon deems excessive amounts of data. Verizon already does this on 3G. I would guess in a year Verizon will get as aggressive as AT&T was last year at getting rid of their unlimited data users. AT&T did not care about losing any customer that had unlimited data - they would auto switch people they felt abused their data and there was no appeal. They did not care if you left their network, if fact they seemed happy to lose the customers. People here don't want to believe it by the amount of customers who use more the 5 GB a data each month is very small - Verizon would not notice if they all left. Verizon was the only company to add users in the first quarter of the year. They know their network is the best network right now. They have spent a lot of money on the network and continue to spend billions to expand the network. The only company that I see really have the money to compete is AT&T. If I don't like Verizon in 16 months when our family contract is up, we will just move us to AT&T.

Verizon throttles heavy 3G users. They have made that clear. If they do move to throttle 4G LTE users, expect a similar announcement.

going into my 9th year with verizon, and I will say, it's the most reliable carrier I've been with, ten times more so that sprint, or t-mobile. I've heard flaky comments about AT&T, but they seem to be the only carrier I would move to if I decided to drop verizon. I drop calls so seldom with verizon, It's not even a discussion, which is a big plus for me and my wife. as much as I hate to lose unlimited data, Verizon has the best, most reliable coverage across the U.S. if you talk to truck drivers nationwide (which I do daily) you'd know which carriers really suck and which ONE they like. Verizon by far is the favorite of the 50 or so drivers I talk to on a weekly basis. Verizon has done nothing that any other company who wants to make money wouldn't do. we don't like it, but you can't get something for nothing. if this new plan busts your budget, then it is time to move to a new, less expensive carrier.
