The only reason I see to lock my phone would be nosy people in my life.

I use pattern unlock. Its microseconds slower than a swipe and it only enables after a period of inactivity

I also use pattern unlock. Though I don't expect to lose my phone or have it stolen, one other reason to lock the phone (even if you don't have any information on your phone that you deem confidential) is that it prevents a finder from using the phone. I have a lock screen message with my name, land line number, and "REWARD IF FOUND" and hopefully the phone being locked up will give the finder extra incentive to return the phone for a reward.

Not everyone does that... I like being able to go in people's contacts and finding "mom" "babe" "dad" "home" anything like that... so I can call and try to return it to the rightful person

Instead of ****ty comments why you don't have to put password or why it's not needed, I kindly request you guys to just give the solution.
I don't wanna factory reset. I'll lose all the data so please a proper solution.!

Factory reset is your solution. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you get to behave like a jerk.

Hi golfdriver97 - I'm stuck in the same predicament. Forgot the PIN I set up on my Galaxy Ace and now it seems I'm completely stuck. If anyone knows a solution please reply! I'm hoping I do not have to do the reset and lose data. Thanks in advance.

The Galaxy S4 does not give you the option to sign into your google account if you forgot your password. This is where I'm stuck

I am having this same problem. There is no forgot password link on the pin version of the lock screen. The phone just keeps counting my number of attempts and after every fifth it tells me to wait 30 seconds. The highest I've gotten is 50 attempts...Someone please have an answer!!!

If you had been using try using the gmail id and password as so many have suggested.
Pattern locks generally has the unlock section, that asks for your gmail id and password. This section is not always shown. If you continue to punch in the wrong pattern code for a certain number of times, then it shows up. Generally i had found it near the bottom right.

As i just now made a couple of mistakes to take a screen shot1373423095478.jpg

As i will never forget the gmail id and password, il always stick to using pattern lock only. Limitations are there in how complex a code you can have (which is not so complex-no repetation).

Hope this helps.

i really need to get past the lock screen i need to get into my samsung galaxy young but i can't remember my google username and id
