One UI: Great features. Terrible looking

So hopefully in updates things will kick in again.

No, I have access to less information because the app is using about 2/3rds of the available screen space. And it really isn't any easier for me to access or reply than before, but I usually use 2 hands.

I think what is comes down to is since you prefer to use two hands, a lot of the changes won't be beneficial for you.

After a couple of weeks or so with One UI, I hate the way it looks. Great big curved bubbles around everything eg in the settings menu and the Reminders app, etc. Huge horrible notifications. Awful system fonts. Terrible notification shade graphics. And shifting everything down so you can access it easier if your thumbs happen to be at the bottom of the phone has a certain logic, but half a blank screen at the top with no attempt at shading just looks awful.
I don't know who the graphic designers were for this project but it's a botched job.

Conversely, many of the new features are innovative and genuinely useful. I suppose this matters more than how it looks, but surely the looks should also have had the wow factor.

The cartoonish nature bugged me. Then I got angry when I saw that they destroyed the recents and split screen feature. I would not have bought a phone designed like what I now have. I'd like my money back.

You can still do the split screen from recent apps. It just done a different way. By touching the icon at the top of the app and choosing split screen in the drop down list.

I have larger hands than some, so how is it possible for most people to be able to use this phone one handed?

It really is easier to access given that it's no longer at the top of a 6" tall device.And it's not that difficult to scroll up to get the rest of the content either.

It's not noticeably easier for me, but even if it was, I would prefer to at least have the option to decide between wasting space or using it efficiently.

Everything I have seen for One UI I don't particularly like, design wise. I'm on T-mobile still waiting for the update. So, I don't have first hand experience yet.

My view is Samsung have over-skinned it. And there's no real alternative. And that, in my opinion, is not how Android should be.
But that's just me. As a number of people have said, it looks 'cartoonish'. I would agree - I don't find it visually appealing at all. But, then, loads of people love it.
At the end of the day, for me, it's not a big deal; not the look I wanted, but I still love the phone.
And as someone else commented, Good Lock 2019 is to come. The guys on that team really know their stuff. I just hope their creativity won't be stifled by their One UI superiors.

Launchers only go so far. I use Nova Prime but notification shade, notifications, menus and various other things have been baked into the OS by Samsung. Only rooting would override those types of things and I certainly don't dislike One UI enough to go down that route.

Sorry, but no. A number of changes should be optional rather than forced.

In the end, I get stuck with whatever brilliant ideas Samsung thinks that I will love, regardless of how stupid I think that they are. I just have to tolerate it as best as I can.

It dawned on me that app icons on desktop seem to be designed to match the size of a finger tip - making it easy to use.

Pie on Essential is just boring in its stark simplicity while Samsung has a ton of features, and settings, packed in and had to be easy for users to find and use.

None of which is worth worrying.

Nobody wants Windows 2k still or do they? Vista, ugh. 8.0 “no thanks.” But life and systems go on.

First world problems.

I've been using One UI for a little over a day now. I really can't understand all the complaining. It runs smooth. I can do everything that I did before and in most cases, with less effort. Did I have to learn some new ways? Yep. But it wasn't that hard.

Too each their own, but I like way more than I dislike about the One UI. This is the best Samsung has ever done. Samsung is definitely figuring out the software finally. It's good to see.

8.0 wasn't quite that bad. 10 really did take advantage of the touchscreen.

Oh, and we are talking about phones that are close to $1k and up, they are first world phones, so expect first world problems.

The thing I don't understand is why people didn't expect there to be changes. Unless this is your first Samsung phone ever, you already know that most of the time when they release a new system update there's bound to be a few changes. *shrugs *

I never said that I didn't expect changes. I just don't like the changes, more so than previous versions.
