Update: I am NOT going to update to Oreo on my V20. I personally tried Oreo on another V20 and disliked it. All the themes you already have will NOT work properly on Oreo (some of the icons don't change). There are very minimal changes and there's no improvement in the camera or battery. I don't like the colorful default UI in the settings either. I also don't like the fat bold font changed on the V20 on Oreo. My V20 still works exactly like it did brand new so I don't see the reason to update it if I already like it the way it is..

LG rep said the US996 V20 update is pushed back to the END OF NOVEMBER. Don't worry, there's nothing absolutely amazing about the update.. it's pretty much the same with a few tiny changes.

I've tried Oreo on another V20.. barely any different.. they kept everything the same for the most part, added a few small things here and there. There's no rush to update because it won't really do much for you.
This list is false. There are few VISUAL changes, but lots of changes. Already posted many of them here, in this thread, after a similar false statement.

Nothing SUBSTANTIAL meaning your experience won't be that much different. You mentioned "visual" changes but how does visual changes help anything? Just a slightly different UI appearance (more cartoonish theme, not even by much).

No, I'm saying there are not many visual changes. There are a LOT of other changes, that in some cases represent significant improvements. I listed some of them here: https://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=904845&p=6336919&viewfull=1#post6336919 - which was in this thread.

I would venture that battery life savings, better security, notification channels, the LDAC codec, native PIP, etc. would qualify as substantial changes.

The biggest problem with this update is not that it doesn't bring anything new - it definitely does bring new things, and quite a few of those things.
The biggest problem with this update is that it's over a year late for those still waiting. LG should be rolling out 9.0 to the V20 right now, and they're still not done with 8.0. They're 10 months behind already on 8.1 and it's VERY confusing that they rolled out 8.0 instead of 8.1.

You are very very fortunate. Oreo ruined my V20 in so many ways.

I think I'm lucky I didn't get the update sooner otherwise I would've downloaded it and installed it.. I'm glad you warned me about it. I personally tried Oreo on another V20 and didn't like it. Don't like the cartoony UI and icons and bold font... not only that, all of my themes that I've downloaded over the years will not work properly anymore (I have over 20+ V20 themes). I never had great experiences with updates either.. there are changes I usually don't like and sometimes features are removed. A long time ago, way back in the early Android days, it was possible to revert back to an old OS version... now it's virtually impossible.. not sure what the reason is but that sucks. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Battery saving is a placebo. You cannot change the resolution of the display just like the newer LG phones so battery life does not get better from that. Battery life is also very subjective and differs for everyone, depending on a variety of factors. Regarding aggressive doze mode, there are plenty of apps that do that, such as ForzeDoze and Greenify. The only thing I noticed that was different was the shortcut button added to hide the notification bar, the floating apps feature, and gif maker. Not really that much IMO. Icons became more cartoony and past themes no longer work properly (bc of the change of icons).

Battery saving is a placebo.

Battery life is a thing that can be measured, and whether or not savings exist is a matter of mathematics. Yes, it is subjective in that it differs by individual use cases, however on any individual level, better or worse, for the same use case, is an objective observation.

Placebo would mean that you get better battery life just because someone said you would - that's literally impossible as your opinions cannot impact battery life.

Regarding aggressive doze mode, there are plenty of apps that do that, such as ForzeDoze and Greenify.

None of those apps are built into the OS and all of those apps are detrimental to Android's native resource management.

We have some V20 users here that don't recommend the Oreo update after updating..

That has what to do with whether or not there are a number of changes and whether or not battery life is a placebo? A few anecdotal responses, even if there are a lot of them, especially when they're all on a super-nerd fanatic site, is not evidence of anything. And it certainly is never true that a person's opinion on whether or not they like a number of features can impact whether or not those features exist.

Never bad to have a second opinion. Seeing a bunch of post with people having issues with it such as losing fast charge (affected Verizon models I think?)

Ok so your position is that, because someone had an issue, that means that other features that were implemented, which have nothing whatsoever to do with that issue, do not exist? A second opinion? On what? The features are a list of things, which can be counted. There are either features or there are not. Whether or not you, or anyone else, like any or all of them will not change the quantity, quality or magnitude of the features. Those aspects exist outside of opinions.

Re-read the second part of what you quoted, here it is again in summary: Anecdotal responses from a biased sample regarding their opinion on their happiness level with modifications does not, cannot and will never change the volume of changes that occured. It is impossible, meaning not possible, for a person's opinion regarding a feature to impact whether or not those features exist.

One guy said it completely messed up his V20, another guy said he lost fast charging.. I think I'm OK with not updating..

You're answering a question I didn't ask and not answering the questions that I did ask.

You stated that there were not many features added in the update. That was back in September.
Also in September, I responded with a partial list of all the features that this update brings - which proved that there were a lot of new features, some of which are substantial.

Then in November you said, that they added a few small things and that barely anything was different. I responded, because as you had been aware from 2 months earlier, that was a false statement. There are many features added, some of which are substantial.

You then pivoted, stating that some people have had issues with the update. I asked what that has to do with the quantity of features and so you restated that some people have had issues, twice more.

The issue isn't whether or not you want to update - no one cares if you do or do not. The issue is knowingly stating things, that you know to be false, in the forums.

What vast improvement was there? How much is your screen on time battery life? No improvements with the camera, it's the same.
