Over the Air Update on Rooted Note 2 SGH-i317 if I Deleted Bloatware?

I noticed there is a OTA update for my AT&T Note 2 SGH-i317, but I have rooted it in the past using Oden. Unfortunately, I have deleted some of the bloatware, so how can I install the update if the original files are gone? I've only rooted the one time, so I am kinda new to this. Could someone walk me through the process? Thanks!

If you have rooted it I would not suggest doing an OTA update. Return your device back to stock then update. Use odin to go back to stock and do your research.

You are going to have to make yourself familiar with them if you want to go back to stock.

If you are rooted why should you care about an OTA update? Just use titanium backup to backup your entire phones contents to an sd card and the install a rom that includes the update or if thats not your cup of tea you can just manually flash update and keep root. No need to go back to stock everytime something new comes out.

As far as your reply to that other guy goes...that was kinda rude dont you think? He was being helpful. Did you root this phone by yourself? Odin is the program that samsung uses to flash updates, we as rooters use that very same program to achieve root. If you want to make future upgrades go super smooth these terms like odin and roms and things like this will make things ALOT easier.

If you are interested in keeping root and want to install the update manually ill try and help you. First who is your carrier?

Sorry, I was tired of people always assuming that everyone should just Google the topic and immediately understand what needs to be done. I am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to technology, but I am new to rooting mobile devices. I did use Odin to flash my Samsung Note 2 SGH-I317 (At&T) using this guide here :::Beginners Guide:::How To Root the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (the Safest,Easiest and Easiest methods) | HowTo.Teachers. I get that I am flashing the ROM, but I have deleted some of the bloatware that AT&T put on the phone and was told that I could not update it successfully until I returned it to the stock version of Jelleybean that shipped with the phone. Are you suggesting that all I need to do is back up all my apps and contact data and re-flash an updated ROM and that will work? If so, 2 things, how would I back up my contacts and where can I find a compatible version of Jellybean 4.2 to flash? Thanks for your help.

Well for 1 thing 4.2 is not out yet. The update you are seeking to flash is a baseband update. Baseband is the software that control the cellular radios that talk to cell towers. There is another update that upgrades the samsung kernel. The kernel is the software that resides inside the cpu and controls everything about your phone, it should help with battery life and wifi speeds and it closes the security hole found awhile back. You do not need to backup anything if you dont want to. I downloaded both update off a different forum and flashed them seperately using TWRP recovery. All in all from start to finish is maybe 5 minutes.

The reason we tell you to google is because there are tons of how to's for beginners and many different articles about which way is easiest. The best way to find the right way for YOU is to google and expose yourself to whichever is method easiest for you. I chose the go the manual way. Its pretty easy and if you mess something up later up the tools needed to flash are the same as the things needed to fix your phone.

One last thing. If you want bloat gone and you want the very newest update for Att, and you like the stock functionality of touchwiz then I suggest downloading ATT Cleanrom SE 3.0. It is one of the most pupular roms and Scott the rom maker is well known for pushing put updated roms with all the newest att upgrades. One thing I recently found out is that roms typically dont include the baseband and kernel upgrades so you must download these seperately.

Here is link for the 2 most recent baseband and kernel upgrades. These can be flashed with a free app called goomanager. It is in the playstore after download look for menu option flash open recovery script. This will install TWRP recovery for you. With this one app all future mods/upgrades can be accomplished. Download the kernel and baseband directly to your phone. Move the files from the download folder to the goomanager folder. Leave all files in zip form. Open goomanager and choose option flash roms. Now choose check each box and choose option order and flash roms. It should reboot into your new recovery. Here you will see flash options and option to wipe cache and dalvik. Everytime you flash it is recommended to wipe these cache files. Do that. Then go to option flash roms and choose the same roms we just downloaded and hit done. It will pop up woth a warning hit ok. It will flash and reboot. You will see something about android is optimizing apps. When this is done you are fully upgraded with most recent updates. It may sound like alot but it is maybe 10 minutes of work. Congrats this is how all future updates go. New roms such as cleanrom are done the same way. Choose wipe caches as before but one extra step is to choose factory reset. Just be sure all your apps and stuff are backed up.
Titanium backup with pro upgrade is must for rooters.

That method you posted is definitely definitely NOT the easiest way to root the note 2. Infact the way I posted is quite possibly the easiest. One program which is odin and 1 file that puts root onto the device. Nothing simpler than that.

You might try cf-autoroot. A quick google search for tmobile galaxy note 2 cfautoroot. These search terms should lead pretty close to the answer. Cfautoroot is the app I used to root mine.

To me, if you are not going to actually answer a person's question then don't bother posting. Some of us are just not as smart as some of you and perhaps we need a bit of hand holding. There is no 4.2 update for the note 2 unless you install a custom rom. If you need to know how to unlock and root your phone. Look in your carriers subforum in xda. I know for Verizon it is as simple as downloading a couple files and 2 programs. Follow the directions and done in 3 minutes. The guides have step by step instructions and videos.

If you arent a technically inclined person, or you would rather be spoon fed how to do things then rooting probably isnt for you. Yes, you can possibly mess your phone up. If that is not something you are willing to except then root is not for you.

So you are unwilling to do a google search for how to root and instead you google how to update a phone to an OS that doesnt exist other than to rooters? Ok here is me holding your hand, 4.1.2 is what we have. In order to root your phone you need some files, your phone, and your charge cable. Go to the XDA site, the one that people go to when they need root stuff and find your phone type and carrier. This is where your files and instructions and roms will be.

I also rooted my phone with Odin, and deleted bloatware. Was not aware that I couldn't do the OTA update.... and I'm actually a little behind on what updates are out for the SGh-I317. I noticed my phone trying to do the update once and got a failed response. I have never really done the updates alone, always had a friend who understood this better than I do. Can you help me figure out where I need to start and what I need to do to get the latest band downloads and such?

Unfortunatly there aren't many update for the Note 2, unless you go to a custom Rom, which isn't all that bad. When you root your phone the OTA update won't work. You can use Odin to update to another rom if you want. There is a Note 2 forum for hacks and roms. I would check out this forum and see what works best for you. And while you are at it, make a back up of your phone before you flash another rom.
