Pandora poor audio quality

Okay, ever since I got the Galaxy Nexus, Pandora has had these annoying pops (on high quality) and annoying thumps like a woofer going out (on normal quality). It has done this one 4.0.2, 4.0.3, and 4.0.4. I drive 4-5 hours a day, and I used to always listen to Pandora, but now it is unbearable. The same songs on Google Music or any other music app (streaming or not) do not exhibit these same artifacts. If I go to the desktop version of Pandora on my Gnex, the audio is perfect (but I have to leave the browser open and can't navigate out of it). Also, I tried tethering my og Droid with gingerbread, and Pandora worked great.

Is anyone else having this issue? Oh, I'm using 3G and some 1x spots I drive through.

EDIT: I just tried over wifi on my sony XB500's and wow the problem is even more apparent through headphones.

I think i have had this problem. I dont use Pandora muc,h as I use mostly spotify. But I have certainly had this happen with one of them or both. The snaps are most noticeable and it always makes me think my aux cable is bad or the speakers are going but if i switch sources it goes away.

Have you tried both the "High" and "Normal" quality options in the Pandora application itself?

Pandora: Menu > Preferences > Cell Network Audio Quality

Yeah, I said that both exhibit some form of compression artifact. High quality = pops on highs, normal quality = thumps on lows

I use Pandora all the time. I play it over bluetooth through my stereo and never have any popping problems.

I used it this weekend over Bluetooth to headphones and connected to my Bose radio....no popping or problems using Normal quality.

I just upgraded to the Nexus from the Fascinate. I never had any "clicking" issues streaming Pandora or other internet radio with the Fascinate. Using my same audio cable now with the Nexus, I get clicking noises when streaming Pandora or TuneIn Radio. This is really annoying, and I have tried it in three cars, with two different cables with no changes, just the same clicking.

The weird thing is that the clicking starts when the phone is locked. If the phone is unlocked and I am doing something on the phone, there is no clicking.

Time to call VZ and have them send me a replacement. This is a huge issue for me.

Called Verizon and they said "they have never heard of this complaint". They told me to send my Nexus to them and they would ship a new one to me.

I just hope they send me one that does not do this.

UPDATE: They sent me a new phone. I immediately tried to duplicate the clicking noise, and it is still there on the 2nd brand new Nexus.

Sorry guys, sent it back again and will be using the good ol' reliable Fascinate. I can't believe they would release a phone with issues like this. Guess I will be waiting for another phone to come out. This one just doesn't cut it.

Usually Verizon sends you a replacement phone and you send the defective one back within five days. I cant believe they asked you to send it in before they sent a replacement.

I get the same problem with pandora on my nexus. If I am listening while using another app, they dont occur. If the phone us locked or pandora is the only thing running (like while am driving) there are sharp electrinic sounding artifacts. Never had any problems with my droid og.

And yet Verizon tells me that nobody else has complained about it. Oh well. I am back to my Samsung Fascinate and don't miss the Nexus at all.

I have the same problem with my straight talk samsung galaxy proclaim. (funny the name of my phone was not even listed on this website) It pops and crackles randomly and it drives me INSANE!(not to mention even when its not popping its noticeably lower quality than on a PC ) I literally googled about it and came across this forum, good to know i'm not the only one but i was hoping it was not going to be a phone issue. not looking forward to explaining all this to whoever is working the electronics section in Walmart. Not to mention they only offer 2 samsung galaxy phones and i chose the more expensive one. I have a feeling i might be screwed... I literally just switched to a smartphone 90% of the reason being i wanted pandora in my car because the SQ of all the songs have always been great on PC and i just spent a lot of money on great speakers that my phone nearly ruined...

Sorry for ranting but i almost want to throw my phone against a wall because of this... I'm about to switch to IHeartRadio and see what thats all about

I now have a Razr M, and Pandora and all other music apps sound great. The Nexus was horrible, and I am glad I returned it and waited for another Droid to be released. Good luck with your issues.

Same here. I stream it on my drive to and from work every day via Bluetooth. At work I plug in my headphones and listen 2-3 hours a day. Never had that issue. I have also used it in my wife's car from time to time connected via the Aux input. Have never had these sort of issues with any of my setups when listening to Pandora. I don't use it as often, but Slacker has never given me an issues either.

Off topic, but I tried Spotify and wasn't a fan of their music matching algorithm. There's no excuse for having Lady GaGa pop up on a station built around Led Zeppelin.

I sometimes notice that Pandora makes pops or clicks, especially on the low end of bass heavy songs. I've been using Songza and notice that the quality is slightly better, and more consistent.
