i used to be with t-mobile and switched to verizon for the incredible. i just got off the phone with t-mobile to ask how much my etf is.
$200 etf
$337.50 the rest of my equipment installment plan
+ taxes, last month's bill and some other bs

$696.69 total

that's insane!
they claimed that they tax etf. i don't think that's right but i have no proof.
so i have to pay roughly $700 and now i have my verizon bill to look forward to. dang....

holy crap!! would it be better to just lower the plan to like ZERO minutes and the worst possible plan and let it ride til the contract expiration date?

I mean $20 / month for 6 months (or whatever you could do) and THEN cancel to avoid the ETF might save some money.

That sucks. 1 year contracts FTW.

Edit: So how many months are left on your contract? How much would it cost to ride out your current contract, at the lowest possible price, and have two lines? It would be a good excuse to start using Google Voice (which I don't use presently).

And what's a "equipment installment plan"?

You didn't figure this out BEFORE you switched?

yeah, that ^^^ was helpful.

But, seriously.... was the OP's idea that last month's bill and the ETF were NOT going to happen?

Actually a $200 ETF isn't THAT bad by comparison. I mean Verizon's is $375

no, i did (well, a rough estimate but i just figured it'd be closer to 600 than 700). i just had to get away from t-mobile. luckily, i was able to sell a majority of my gsm phones since i won't be using them anymore.

i didn't realize it came across like this but i wasn't complaining. i was just commenting on how much i was willing to pay to get away from t-mobile, get to verizon and get my hands on the incredible. i have absolutely no regrets. i just wanted to share what i had to go through to get the phone.

Wait so you are paying ETF and the remainder of the cost of the phone? What kind of phone did you get? And did you get that phone for free but also had to sign up for a 2 year contract?

But, welcome to Android, or "the dark side" as we are known by Apple. Its ok, he have Cupcakes, Donuts, Eclairs, and some Froyo is gonna be here soon =]

So, in short your incredible just cost you $900. Crazy man and welcome to Android. great device but yours has to be one of the most expensive.

here's how their even more plus plan works:
no annual contract but no subsidized phone. instead, a customer is given the option to get a phone (in my case, a blackberry 9700) and pay $20-25/mo. until it's paid off.
however, if a customer is currently under contract when they get the even more plus plan, then they are under contract until it expires and then not under contract for as long as they stay with t-mobile. sorry if i didn't do a good job in explaining.

but, yes, my etf is due 6/14/2010 and my verizon bill is due 6/5/2010. haha.
like i said, i sold my blackberry (along with my other gsm phones) and i have my tax refund. as long as i'm not stupid with my money, i should be ok.

i'm glad i switched and i'm glad i got the incredible. it's simply awesome.

Wow, I love my Incredible but I don't think I ever would have paid that much for it. Thankfully for me I had a new every 2 upgrade with Verizon when it came out so I was in luck. I was ALMOST going to get a Moto Droid a few weeks before, so glad I waited.

If you were already on t-mobile why didn't you just stay with them and get a new nexus one on contract for 180 bucks. They are basically identical phones. But congrats:-).

I feel much less badly now about the 150 I will be paying now to ATT.

I'm really sorry man that stinks. When I left ATT they were like "is there anyone who might be willing to take over your contract" and I was like "could be but I'm not willing to do that to anyone I know".

^^ YEAH no joke, I feel much better about my bill too. But I think I would have done the same thing to get such a good phone on a much better provider than T-Mobile. I would have paid that to go to Sprint versus T-Mobile....well maybe AT&T. lol

But in all seriousness, I think I would have just gotten the Nexus One and stayed until I got out of contract. Because it would take a phone much much more awesome than anything out now to make me wan't to spend $900 in phone carriers.
