hi guys, son has given me his s9+ but when I plug it into my windows 10 home laptop it doesn't appear in my pc, also when I plug the charger in it is not charging, 'appears to be a fault with the phone charger connection', can anybody advise me on this please? all help and advice appreciated

Have you already tried different cables/charging plugs? Have you also made sure the phone's USB port is completely clear of any debris?

thank you B Diddy, have tried all suggestions including 4 different samsung cables, have been given a large charging dish, 3/4 size of the phone which does charge it, just having cable problems, tried blowing with compressed air, from about 1 foot away, still cables not recognised, as you will have guessed I never buy a mobile phone, I get sons cast offs and other family members buy accessories, ie cases, cables and fast chargers, when I reached 70, a few years ago, family decided I need a mobile phone, managed 70 years without one but it keeps them happy, ps they also got me an x-box, keeps the grandkids happy, (and me as well!!!)

Hold the compressed air nozzle right next to the port when you blow it out -- you won't damage it. If the problem persists even after all this, then the phone's USB port is probably faulty, and you'd have to bring it to a repair shop.

Hi B. Diddy, give the connection a good clean with compressed air, now charger works but only if I hold it firmly in place, same with plugging phone into laptop, have to hold it firmly in place

Sounds like more of a hardware issue, then. Bring it to a repair shop for them to take a closer look (or, if the phone is still under warranty, contact Samsung, or if you have insurance, contact that company).
