Pixel 2 / 2 XL - Let's see your setup on your Home Screen(s)!

Screenshot_20171217-121218.jpg

This is my main screen. I am using Nova Launcher Prime with the Viral icon pack, which I discovered shortly after getting my Pixel 2.

Most of those icons have Nova swipe actions set to second apps, so that I can minimize what's on my screen. (Snapchat doubles as Instagram, Chrome as Google Now, Camera as Photos, etc.) My left screen has the Google Calendar month widget, and my right screen is less often used apps.

Fortunately for you that this isn't your phone, then. Android gives you the option to configure your own homescreen that someone else will find useless too.

Awwww did the overly politically correct policeman get butthurt over a harmless comment?

I did recognize it was cool, but of no use to me. Do I have to like everything everyone uses for my purposes? Would that assuage your butthurt self?

I don't care if people don't like something I use on my phone, and in fact I'd appreciate criticism of it as it might help me find a better way.

Feel free to say what you like and don't like

I was just offering criticism that hopefully you could appreciate.

Like:
  • useful dock items
  • swipe up for drawer

Don't like:
  • icon color palette
  • inconsistent icon themes
  • volume widget (?) standing alone
  • app branding on weather widget
  • search bar placement

I generally like minimal-ish screens with a lot of function. I've used KLWP to create something that's useful to me. I really liked using KLWP but now am sticking with the Pixel 2's default launcher because it's just so much smoother than Nova/KLWP despite having more clutter than I prefer.

Thanks! What's KLWP? That might be something I'm looking for and hoping to find via constructive criticism. I find my Nova launcher to be buttery smooth so that's not a problem

I have Nova and I've tried Apex, Action and ADW launchers in the last few days, each briefly, and didn't find anything better - yet. I too like the the super minimalistic homescreens but just need those apps on my screen quickly.

I did test out eliminating one of those rows of apps but it didn't look much cleaner. I need some sort of launcher feature to go that extra mile. The Action launcher slide from left App list is cool but you can't just select 10 favorites to put there, it's your whole list which is too cumbersome. Any suggestions?

The app icons are mostly Retrorika, but the few that aren't are all vintage themes. That WU logo on the top right was actually an application shortcut, not a logo, but I got rid of it. Thanks for that suggestion.

Here is the screen with those changes, and all but one icon (waze) are the Retrorika theme now:

Looks cleaner for sure. Finding an icon set that had a more uniform design would be my preference too.

KLWP definitely has a learning curve but it's fun to fiddle around with if you're into homescreen customization. KLWP is nice because you can place and size objects on your homescreen exactly. It also allows you to play with all sorts of animations. The big downside for me was launching apps has a very slight but perceptible delay which started to bug me after about a year of KLWP'ing.

Here's my wall that I used for awhile (location is spoofed to prevent all you Internet stalkers from finding me in TX):

I replaced it with one that used sliding folders for easier one-handed use (I use my left-hand):

These are animated GIFs so they may take a few moments to load and start moving...

Here's my current cluttered screen using the default Pixel Launcher. I wish it were simpler but it's so convenient to use:

After reading this thread, I decided to try the Nova launcher and it's awesome. However, with Nova, the clock app icon no longer shows live clock like in the Pixel launcher do. Any way to show live clock icon in Nova or is it a Pixel only thing?
