pixel 6a pre-orders

Well with the generous pixel 4a trade in. This phone is under $200. The camera alone makes the 6a great buy at that price.

I pulled the trigger. I have a 3a XL that I use as a backup, which I bought refurbished last year for $90 (after my 3 XL died). The 3a line got its last system update a couple of months ago, so this is the right timing. And being able to reduce the cost of the 6a to $149 (and to get a free pair of Buds A) is pretty awesome!

I'll either use the 6a as a wi-fi device around the house, or see if my wife wants to try it instead of her Pixel 5.

The 60 Hz rate has been fine on my 5a but maybe I'm just a normal everyday guy. I'm waiting for the 7a but excited to see the 6a pre-order with Tensor chip.

To anyone considering any Pixel, if you're thinking of upgrading or switching carriers, I'd suggest looking at the Google Fi offer for the various Pixels at reduced pricing. My 5a is like $15/month and the 6a is offered the same way.

The Google Fi phones come with a Fi physical sim card. Of course you can switch it out (I assume) or download an esim from your carrier.

You can either use the physical SIM from Google Fi or download the eSIM which is what I did. I use physical SIM for my AT&T line.

This sounds like an awesome buy and a great deal! Let us know how you and your wife are liking it!

$300 trade-in for a P3a backup is a no brainer. I would have jumped on this also, but I gave mine to a relative a few months ago. Not sure if I want to use the P6a as a daily driver yet, so won't be trading in my P5 for only $300. I don't like the 60 HZ display nor the lack of wireless charging. Not sure about the size, specifically the aspect ratio.

There is a YouTube video showing a few individuals using the FP sensor to unlock the 6A even though they do not have any of their fingers registered on the phone. Doesn't look very good. Another video states that the phone overheats after 10 minutes of video recording? I haven't found any complaints about cell reception...yet. So I am not sure what to think. I want to pre-order but I am just not willing to do so until far more end user reviews become available that address these serious issues.

Do you have a link for that video? I'd want to confirm that the screen is actually showing the fingerprint prompt, and isn't actually unlocked already (like through Smart Lock).

It'd also be good to know what the circumstances of the overheating were. Were they recording outside in 90 degree heat at 4K resolution? Or was it 1080p indoors?

The phone hasn't been released yet. I'm sure google will have updates to address these possible issues.

Interesting. Are these pre-release units, or wide-release ones? I'll see if I encounter any of those issues (although I probably won't be inserting a SIM).

I think we all will be testing.
If memory serves me correctly I recall the same thing happening early on with the Pixel 6 series. It was short lived.

What bothers me the most - no matter what type of so-called release these are - is that they were released to professional reviewers who are going to tell it like it is! Why in the world would Google be so irresponsible to release defective, bug ridden phones to reviewers who are going to upload YouTube videos? This is NOT going to make people want to buy them is it? It makes no business sense at all. It seems as if they have chimpanzees running the show! (I sincerely apologize to all chimps who may be reading this.)
