Pixel - Signal dropping (Update: Google Knows)

I do not have this issue, thankfully. I am on Verizon with a Google Store XL 128GB.

To compare signal to my last phone (S7 Edge), it is better in some places like work and the same in other places. Very happy with the reception of this antenna.

Google sent me an email to follow-up on my call to support. Pretty much said 7.1 is the problem. It went on to say developers only got 7.1 the day before pixel was released. I'm lost.

So it looks to be an issue of Google not having enough time to test everything thoroughly and completely. Kind of a case of "Will worry about it and deal with it later" or as issues arise

Ok well that's something. Now that they've assumed responsibility. Where's the fix? Come on Google

Maybe sticking with Android is a better choice than going into Google products. A company of this size should have a fix pretty damn quick.

This is now the (industry) norm. Release first. Patch later.

Android is Google :P.

Also.. If anything Google can release the patch faster than a carrier branded phone would be. Not always since there are exceptions to the rule but usually carrier branded phones take awhile to update.

I'm highly aware that Android is Google. This is the first device released by Google. Sticking with Android while using a device other than a Google device sounds like a better idea than the pixel to me.

I will be honest. I mostly can't stand talking to people. I am married, I have a absentminded 12 yo son(I know what 12 yo has his or her wits) and carry a phone for work. Having said that, some part of me likes having the signal issues. Another reason to get off the phone or not answer.

I, of course, dont want to spend this kind of money on something for it to not work. So maybe I get the new one at christmas and even though its fixed I still get to hang up on people and just say" oh well, must have been that darn pixel phone"

Almost as important to me in getting a new phone that works is maybe getting one that doesn't make that rattle, that most seem to be ok with. Honestly to me this is more important then the signal and I know there would be little chance I would get a replacement for that.

Married here as well. 2 kids. I don't work near home so I absolutely NEED my device to work as the intended phone when I need it. It really pisses me off when I call my wife and the call drops. Finally connect and then drops again. Its so damn frustrating

I have given up on my pixel xl for now. I switched back to my Nexus 6 made by Motorola, awsome connection. Google definitely needs to take lessons from Motorola. I'm not a Motorola fan, but I am a fan of their patented radio/antenna setup.

Thinking about the Moto X Force, and giving back the pixel. Waiting to see how long before Google pulls their head out of their azz.

Well I agree with your issue. I honestly don't blame you for going with another phone due to this issue. I couldn't live with my phone not having service either since it is my only form of communication. Get what works for you. I don't see your issue but that doesn't help you at all until Google fixes it for all.

I had three pixels, all couldn't hold a call at my house.I bought a Motorola Z Play from Motorola no more doped calls.

I had a z force. Gave it up for the pixel. I didn't have any dropped calls using that device. Held a signal at home too.

Hey guys, I got my Pixel from the Google store and set up with Verizon. Its only been two days but so far not very happy with call quality. I'm noticing static/hissing on a lot of calls, my end only, signal strength is pretty weak most of the time avg -105 dbm or just a couple of bars. No dropped calls though and data works great even when the triangle shows no signal. Love the phone otherwise so I don't want to return it but its either that or switch to another carrier I guess.

My previous phone was Motorola Droid Maxx and Motorola is famous for a good radio quality. I was concerned before buying Pixel, because Verizon doesn't have the best cell grid density in my area. I get weak to no signal in some places and I saw people with other phones on Verizon getting weaker signal than my Maxx. When I got my Pixel I was very surprised, the LTE signal was at least as good as with my Maxx! What surprised me even more is it holds a VoLTE call way better than the Maxx! My Maxx could hold it with RSRP about -122, but usually people couldn't hear me after -115. My Pixel only drops a VoLTE call with RSRP closer to -130 and people still can hear me even with a very low signal.

Here's a test that I did in a store with almost no Verizon signal. You can see that there's a cross on the signal indicator meaning that the data doesn't work anymore because of a low signal, but VoLTE call still works even with -126 dBm RSRP! RSRQ and SNR values are also very bad.

That's very unfortunate that not everyone have the same experience with the Pixel. My guess is either your Pixel is defective or your local network equipment/settings don't work well with the phone (something like Verizon/iPhone 7 signal drop issue).

Google is saying that this is a 7.1 issue of Nougat and not carrier related. There are many people in South American countries and other parts of the world who are having these connectivity issues as well. I did the math. People complaining of dropped calls, bad signal, poor blue tooth connectivity, data transfers being slow or non existent. All leads up to software in my book.

People with Nexus phones that experienced NO issues whatsoever until they installed 7.1 on their phones. Now, they too are suffering with issues along with major battery drain to go with it. Makes no sense that this would be carrier related and would make Google look like total fools having a phone that was basically released on Verizon with all the commercials and what not to have a phone that they are pushing that doesn't even work on their network. I am blaming software. I lived at my present location and in the same area for many years and have been with Verizon for 12 years. Never had any issues with connectivity in the past. To go from having 3-4 bars constant on all my previous phones to having 1 bar that drops down to none with this phone. I totally blame it on software. IMHO

Verizon network is not the same everywhere. Different vendors supply network equipment for different regions and settings can be different even on two towers next to each other.

Do you have any problems other than it's showing less bars than your old phone? Bars are not an accurate signal measurement for many reasons:
1. Different manufacturers map bars to the actual signal parameter levels (RSRP, RSRQ, SNR, etc.) differently.
2. Phone can use different bands.
3. Pixel treats a low signal (less than ~ -115 dBm) as no bars.

For example my Pixel is sitting on Band 2 (1900 MHz) right now with RSRP -117 showing zero bars. I can use it without any problem though. If I go deeper into the room and the Band 2 signal drops more (the threshold is about -120 dBm), it switched to Band 13 (700 MHz) with two bars.

Yes, I do have other problems other then it showing less bars. Dropped calls constantly, 1 bar that cuts down to nothing for about 60 seconds then goes back to 1 bar again, If I hold the phone and move an inch the call drops, If someone emails me while I am on the phone or texts me, the call gets disconnected and it doesn't switch to anything else. Once 4G lite on Verizon drops out, its gone. My signal is always sits around -112dbm

I'm not tech savy with charts and graphs and what not, and I appreciate you offering your suggestions but the bottom line is poor connectivity in all aspects and this phone does not do what it is designed to do. That's the way I see it
