Pixel XL signal strength

Very disappointed with Google, they spend a lot of time building a phone (HTC built)and drop the ball on signal strength. For God sakes it's a PHONE, phones need signal. Signal strength should be the first thing a phone maker should consider not the last. Google hired some Motorola engineer, should of had him in charge of signal strength.

This is where the LG v20 really succeeds...the signal strength is probably the best out there

While researching my pixel dropping calls I came across this forum and seen not much info on the topic so thought I'd share me experience I purchased 3 pixels not xl's and live in a rural area in Nebraska and all three drop calls constantly never had this problem in the past last phone was s6 edge notes before that and I was always impressed with my 4g service rock solid was so excited about the phone super fast battery is great love the screen even though it's only 1080 I think that's perfect for a 5 inch phone but all 3 drop 2 out of 3 calls and takes a minute to get service back it's really frustrating I will be returning all 3 on monday hope this helps

What carrier are u using and have u used that carrier before?

Well after my testing here are my results lol. I still have my N7 so down in my man cave I tested N7 -99...iPhone 6S -101...Moto X -116 and Pixel XL -120 which is the lowest it would show. But I find the Pixel will fluctuate way more than the others. It actually fluctuated as far as -105 but mostly it's around -116. So I called a number that has a recording and out it on speaker. Did that for all phones. All, including the Pixel, were fine. What the Pixel is doing is failing our eye test. We see no bars, or a poor dBm reading and it frightens us. But I'm a truck driver and I picked my Pixel up 10 days ago and it held up fine the 5 days I used it out on the road. I've been home 5 days and it still works fine. As for LTE I'm going to post a speed test I've just completed. With no bars....

I wouldn't say that -120dBm is the lowest it would show. My 6p routinely shows me readings all the way down to -129dBm. The best I've ever gotten with it here is -113dBm. I'm gonna give the XL a good workout when it arrives and we'll see if it stays.

Came from the note 7 mess, hoping Google Pixel had it going on, but they forgot 1 thing.... SIGNAL STRENGTH. (Well 2 things wifi connection), (Well 3 things Bluetooth connection problems)

Very un-scientific [Signal Check Lite] spot numbers:

Pixel
1XRTT
RSSI: -90
LTE: - 112

Nexus 5X
1XRTT
-99
LTE: -109

Moto G4+
1XRTT
-82
LTE: -112

One thing they got right was the operating system. It's awesome

And the camera. Otherwise, it is just not very good. The design is very bland and the connectivity issues create a lot of issues. I am sure they will fix them eventually, but it took Google a long time to fix some of the early Nexus issues. I need to decide if I am going to keep mine over the next three days. Right now, it seems pretty hard to justify the $900 I spent on the XL. Too bad really.

Unbelievable, I have zero issues. This is the absolute best phone I have ever owned. Second to none, my last was a 6P. I'm so impressed.

Google should be embarrassed, they build a PHONE with great software, smooth operation, but can't get the phone part right. I'm so confused, if I should jump to V20 or Moto Z or see if Google can figure things out. Google hasn't said anything about known problems with Pixel phones, so I doubt their even listening.

It may be your area / carrier. I get the same - dBm at work, home, out and about as I did with my Note 7. I am usually always within 1 to 3 dBm of what it was with the Note (sometimes 1 to 3 better dBm or sometimes 1 to 3 dBm worse).

I'm using it on T-Mobile.

This disappointing to hear. I wonder how widespread this issue is.

The odd thing is, every device that I have been read about in the past 2 years has had threads about poor signal. So first thought is, "how can a phone mfg botch this?" Particularly at the price point. Both the Galaxy S6 & S7 had threads at launch. Either the LG G4 or G5 had a couple*I think*. IPhone 6s had some issues & the current iP7 has some threads over at imore with the same complaint. Apple released a 10.0.3 update(5 to 6 weeks after launch) to address connectivity issues. Though saw a couple complaints about that elsewhere too.

Apparently signal & connectivity are more complicated than just the antenna? Hope Google gets this figured out as I am not in a larger city.

I've also noticed that if I have Wi-Fi turned off my reception is better.

me too. I am still in the testing phase ( at least I hope the tech on the other end of my messages is doing something). Maybe its me but it has been better in the last few days. not perfect but better. dropped calls and also what I consider a dropped call because one or the other person can't hear the other, then one hangs up and calls the other while i put my tinfoil hat on, stand on one leg with my face smashed up against a window or as I run out of the house in my underwear.

I am verizon and in whats suppose to be a urban/good area. We switched from sprint to verizon probably 6 years ago and were happy to pay more so the phones we owned would work. We also have 6 people on our account. 6 people over 6 years probably 15 or more phones. I have had the 5 phones listed before over the last month and my pixel xl 128 is by far the worst. Signal wise, because other then that its a great phone. Not as good as my note 7 but a great phone.

Honestly after my pixel the next worst phone is my sons core prime, which is a cheapy anyway and is abused by a 12 yo. Also on the bad list is my wifes new iphone 7. At first we thought it was just my phone but she has had some dropped calls as well. Not nearly as much as me.

This is why I am not panicking. If it were more systemic we would be reading about it. I am hoping its just my phone. Not that I want to restart another phone. Which I am really not a fan of.
