Poor sound quality when plugged into car auxiliary port

i just got my Galaxy S5 about a week ago, and having an interesting issue. Whenever I plug it into my car's auxiliary port with any cable (I tried 3) the sound is low and very poor. Hissing, popping, and such.

I've tried around 8 different headsets in phone, no problem. No problem with a cable connected to my home stereo and powered computer speakers (though volume is rather low compared to other devices)

I have no problem connecting other devices to my car using the cables. An older Samsung galaxy S, HTC One S, Acer tablet, my MP3 player. They all work.

Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! Just guessing here, but go to the Settings>Sound menu and see if there are any Equalizer settings that you can play around with. If there is a Bass Boost setting, try turning that off. Also, see if there is a setting for sound optimization depending on what kind of speaker is connected. I've seen settings like this on other devices.

Welcome to the forum
It may be you're getting too high an impedance (resistance) in the socket in the phone
This can be caused by corrosion but in a new phone is more likely to be caused by manufacturing residue in the socket
Headphones have a high resistance so it doesn't effect them to the same extent as the low impedance of the home stereo amplifier and car stereo amplifier
Use a cleaner such as:

Don't spray it into the phone but wet a cotton bud or matchstick with cloth around it, insert into the socket and gently rotate it
You could also wet the plug with the cleaner and insert it
Try this a few times and it may clean up the inside of the socket and improve the connection
