Hows this for a conspiracy theory:
They do all this delay stuff on purpose. It gets people all fired up with pent up rage and when finally does release, they just drop everything and cause a massive sales rush.
They probably lose a bit of sales, but what else do ppl buy at the time of the drop.
So they wait.
Kinda worked with the TB.
I see how an intentional delay would cause more sales in the few days right around its release than the few days around the planned launch, but if you look at a several week period, you get far more sales if the phone is available to buy throughout that period, as opposed to launching at the very end. So net sales for the month are equal at best. Except they're not equal, because this is driving customers away, plain and simple.
I simply can't remember a time when there's been this many new, powerful Android devices being announced or rumored in such short order, each with stellar new features, and they're going to the three other US carriers. Meanwhile VZW can't manage to launch their outdated phones with last years hardware on time. I understand that the network is most important, and I have to say I would rather have the fastest, strongest network than the coolest phone, but many people wouldn't. If LTE isn't important to them, or they just really like cool phones and could care less, they'll go elsewhere.
Its not like the Charge is a better device than the best of what carriers have to offer, its not really even competitive against other carrier's flagships. The only real reason to wait for a Charge is for the LTE, and that only does it for certain people in certain areas. Very soon now, every other carrier will have at least one dual-core phone with a great display and a good design. Every day that wait will make people give up on them and switch to another carrier. How many Charges do you think they will sell once ATT or TMo starts selling the GS2 for $100 cheaper?
I see no marketing advantage for the delay. If I were in VZW's marketing dept., I would have pushed hard to have this device out more than a month ago, and be hounding Moto to finish the Bionic revision before all my devices are completely outclassed (which will happen by mid-summer if VZW doesn't have a Bionic by then). Honestly, if I wasn't lucky enough to have LTE in my area, I'd have given up and buy an Evo 3D from Sprint the day it comes out.
