Possible new Droid Charge launch date - 5/3/2011

I'll be honest I've been thinking they pushed the release back so they could do the contest before the launch. It makes no sense for them to delay the phone any longer as it would run the risk of being overshadowed by the rumored releases that could come next week.

I was thinking the same. It was odd for them to run the contest when it would still be going on after people could go buy one. It ended tonight, so maybe they say 'surprise it's on sale!' tomorrow?

It could possibly be the 4G network. If they were to launch the Charge it may overload the 4G network. That could be why the Charge works fine in small numbers. It may be that 4G would crash if a large number of activations were to occur. They may be waiting for the network engineers to get things in place to handle the load. This is just a guess.

I don't know much about this stuff, but I suspect its probably more an issue of marketing than the network. It just doesn't seem plausible that Verizon would spend billions upgrading to this new LTE network, but then the network goes into cardiac arrest because Verizon sells a few LTE phones.
My bet is on tomorrow, cinco de mayo.
Yeah, I can't imagine VZW hasn't got their LTE network running reliably again, especially considering TB owners all have service with no problems, and the throttling seen last weekend seems to be long gone. I know they tend to release on Thursdays, and maybe they just don't wanna jinx it by announcing it, considering what happened last week. I see no reason to delay it any further than Thursday, if they do they really owe everyone an explanation.
Every day they wait pushes it closer to the launch of the seemingly irrelevant LG Revolution (aka plastic Thunderbolt with Bing, awesome). This really needs to get into the public's hands, let development start, let the prices come down, etc. Its a great device minus just a few issues. The importance of those issues depends on the user (cpu, ram, and internal storage are nowhere near the cutting edge, but the screen, battery life, open nature, and design are all very nice). If this delay is marketing-related, it really makes me worried about the revised Bionic. Us and Moto would all like to see it launch as soon as it is ready, yet this is making me worry that VZW will try to delay it if they have another device launching around the same time (like the iPhone5, meaning we won't get unlimited data on it).

Not to be pessimistic, but I doubt they will launch tomorrow without saying anything at least a day or two beforehand.
I have called bb, costco, radio shack, target, walmart, you name it, hoping to get one that would slip through like some of you have, but no dice.

The phone was already announced, then delayed. I would not be at all shocked if we wake up tomorrow to a Verizon press release saying that the Charge is now on sale. People don't really need a warning; those that want it are already keeping tabs on the news to see when it launches.
I would agree with you. I noticed an increase in chatter today from Samsung which is usually a sign of a next day release.
Will be dropping into Verizon store on my way to work tomorrow. Looking forward to playing with my new the charge.
I called two VZW stores late today and both were certain it won't launch until at least next Thursday. One guy even said, "It can't launch tomorrow, we don't have the shirts out that we had to put away last week when it got delayed."
Reps dont know ANYTHING. They are the least reliable sources outside of a best buy mobile rep. Being here on this forum and reading about all these things make us more knowledgeable than your average store rep.
I think my response to the shirt comment would have just been "uh sure" as it's terribly difficult to hand the shirts out before a shift starts (like they do with every launch)
The Launch can't be too far away. Best Buy already has them so I can't see Verizon holding out too much longer.
For every person that buys a Thunderbolt Verizon is pushing back the release of new LTE devices by two weeks and one day.
There is a Verizon and a Bestbuy right next to the building I work in. I hit both yesterday and both let me see the phone, but would not sell it to me.
I called VZW 611 this morning to inquire about my upgrade, etc. and asked if the phone will be sold today. Phone person said "The Samsung Charge is experiencing a delayed launch and we dont have a date yet".
I plan to be there today at VZW at 9:55 for opening at 10am to see if they will sell it.
VZW just tweeted exactly what the 611 operator told you......let us know what the store says.

Thanks for the update, this gets stranger by the day. Starting to think the phone will be vaporware lol
