i think unlocking the bootloader is what is going to keep it from becoming old news. look at the OG, it is still pretty relevant because of the things developers have been doing to keep it current.

True, but many people may pass on the Bionic for the simple fact that there's a promise that Moto will unlock bootloaders by the end of the year and it's not done from the start. Remember how they said that the LTE upgrade for the Xoom would be a few months? How did that go? I'm only worried Motorola will push it back until no one cares anymore or will try to say it's Verizon's doing. What I don't understand is why can HTC, LG, and Samsung have unlocked devices on Verizon, but Motorola can't?

Ok, so I've been reading the stuff on these forums for the past week trying to decide if I wanted to go ahead and get the Droid 3 (because a buy one get one free deal would work great for my family), or look into the Bionic (which I had briefly heard about). I was going to continue just reading the forums and continue to be content with listen to the hype and whatnot.
BUT THEN
This literally just happened and I had to tell someone about it who may care.
I had heard that the X2's screen would give me a good idea about how the screen on the bionic would look, and to get an idea for myself that I ought to go into a store and check it out.
So literally an hour ago I walk into the store, the salesman asks me if he can help me, I tell him the X2/Bionic screen situation, and he replies, (and I quote), "Yeah I'd say it would be about the same. I just saw a picture of it and I'd say the only real difference is the thickness of it... it (the device) is probably skinnier than the X2."
He then proceeds to take me over to a Droid 3 (which was next to a X2) slid open the keyboard, held it sideways, and said "I'd say it looks about the thickness of just the keyboard here"
I then said to him, "I've been waiting so long for this dang phone, but I'm somewhat liking this Droid 3 right now only because of the buy one get one free. I just don't know what to do anymore."
He tells me, (and again I quote), "I would love to sell you this Droid 3 right now, but if it were me, I'd be kicking myself if I bought this phone right now. I have a buddy that works for motorola and he tells me that the Bionic is one heck of a device. So if I was you, I would wait."
Sorry for the long story, I was going to make this a new topic, but I felt that this info contributes to the validity of the picture, thus, my vote --- the pic is real.
Go ahead and tear this apart all you'd like --- he didnt tell me any new information about the specs of the phone, etc., but just the way he was talking about it seemed like he didnt just go on here or droid-life and learn exactly what I and all of you already know.

That is very suprising...a Verizon rep that didn't try to push you into a phone that is available NOW and instead said to wait for something coming later.
Which is what gave me the feeling that he "actually" knew something, and was trying help me rather than just try to make a buck.

Another good little sign I think. Salespeople try to get you to buy things right away so they don't have to wait to get a commission. If he's saying don't buy now, then he must know its coming soon. And if he knows the size relative to the other phones he must have gotten a hands on with it...another possible sign for a release coming soon. Taken by themselves, these aren't much, but the stories seem to be adding up to something pretty exciting.

Exactly my feeling tdizzel. That is the entire reason I had the sudden urge to make an account on this forum to post that story. It seems to fit in with the Aug 4th stuff. Maybe he felt that dropping hints to me, that I'll come back and give him the commission by buying the $299 (give or take) Bionic in a week (aug 4) over the $199 (really only $100 when you include the buy one get one free thing) Droid 3.
Take it or leave it I guess. Its so difficult to tell.
what we need is for someone to validate the web interface the message appears on. really think someone would spend time to photoshop text to appear like a screenshot on a Verizon interoffice mail interface?
Its not the original picture modified either... the 'pixelation' is not the same. Its a new picture of a screen from a slightly different angle. Crappy
Agreed, the first pic had starting date both capitalized, the second one forgot to capitalize date......lol
No way. You can get an HDMI cable for cheap. A 32GB microSD card? Not so much.
