Chuck, there are at least 3 android phones coming to VZW including the N1. I'd advise to wait and see what else is being released before making up your mind.

Yeah, I already feel like crap ever since I heard the desire was coming out, sounds like the perfect phone to me.

Great point so I'll take the conspiracy route: It's been a mental roller coaster for me as well as many others. I got the phone, fell in love. Then, all the talks about the anticipated but never received update. Speculations from whether the Eris hardware could support 2.0/2.1 to what dates said update was coming.

gbhil has confirmed that his cooked ROM is working on his rooted Spring Hero and that we will fall in love all over again with the Eris. So, why the wait?

They want us to dump the Eris to get latest and greatest.

I don't get it, the hero is the same right? essentially the same or minus the facelift, EXACTLY the same underneath?

Not sure... could be since the Hero came out first, what ever known exploit that led to it being rooted was patched when the Eris was released?

That sounds plausible. I'm pretty sure VZW reworked some of the kinks out of the system before they released it. Still makes me wonder, if does get rooted, we'd already have 2.1 with sense, right? HTC doesn't make different OS based on the phones, do they? Or does a sense android OS work on all HTC android phones?
