PRL Swap for the V on VM (latest PRL for Sprint Towers).

I just swapped to 61677.prl and... wow! I have four bars in every room in my house and 3 in my basement. My Evo Shift dosen't even get a single bar throughout the house. You think this process would work with my ES?

I didn't screencap the before, but on my mac with wireless tether I was only able to get .25 Mbps down.

This is what I'm getting with my phone next to me (in my office in the basement):

Here is a corporate PRL for you guys. This one is nasty.

Here are the specs
http://www.batonrougebroadband.info/Sprint_11115.txt

Installed it for the hell of it, and have gotten by far the fastest speeds on 3G I've seen on this phone. It could be an anomaly (I didn't test with the old one just before installing this one), but either way, I'm pretty happy with the signal and speed.

According to that site it says "Sprint PRL 11115(VZW 3G roaming in many markets. Only some business accounts approved will receive this PRL.):"

but it also looks like 60681 is the newest.

From what I understand, the prl allows more data bandwidth... that's just my understanding and it may be completely wrong. I would also think that corp accounts have first and best picks of things as well.

I haven't tried this PRL yet but I'll swap it tonight and see what happens.

I just ran a test on three PRLs to see the differences. I tested 61007, 60681, and 11115. All three PRLs connected to the same tower (so no change there) and I had 3 bars each time I ran the test with each PRL. I used OpenSignal Maps to determine the location of the tower and if it had changed, and then ran the speed test within that app.

61007 (in other words, stock virgin mobile PRL)
Ping: 357ms
Download: 370kbps
Upload: 679kbps

11115 (the "corporate" one)
Ping: 339ms
Download: 549kbps
Upload: 254kpbs

68081 (supposedly the newest PRL from Sprint)
Ping: 171ms
Download: 911kbps
Upload: 318kbps

Now I'm not sure if things like 3G speed change based on your area, but in my area, with three bars, the 60681 PRL performed the best.

However both the 11115 and 60681 performed better then the stock VM one.

The trouble is, the stock one varies for me greatly, making testing worthless. Back to back last night, I got 730 down, then 400 down, then 350 down, then 450, etc. If I was testing different PRLs there's no way I could accurately compare them unless I did a whole series of back to back readings and averaged them out. Even then I wouldn't trust it.

Well, I was using the hybrid 61677 one because I figured, Hey...it's got both the VM and Sprint towers in it. If it doesn't improve...well at least I'm only half on Sprints network instead of completely. lol

Ive flashed all the prl's in the op and others ive found on pages here and i get various pings dl's up'ls speeds and the most consistant and fastest has been the latest VM61007, now i live in a downtown metropolitan city so i should be getting upper kbp's but im only averaging aroung 200kbps dl on all prls. Even when i had my Sprint Nexus S phone i was only getting max 600kbps dl on 3g. My Verizon Fascinate gets around 1.5 to 1.7 Mbps dl so i dont know. One thing i do know is i just flashed 60681 prl and my Signal Strength is around -60 dBm so that is really nice better than any other prl i had, the others were averaging around -99dBm, now im not an expert but i believe this is a good thing.
And thanks for those who post the prls for us to try ;)

60681? Haven't try it yet...

[Edit]Just found another newer(?) PRL... 22081. Also, haven't try this either...[/Edit]

Never heard anything about 22081...and that comes from an EVO 3D thread. Not sure if PRLs can be taken from different phones...I mean in theory they can, all it is is a list of which towers to connect to...

My girlfriend has an EVO 4G, and she's on 60680 (I asked her last night lol). So makes me wonder if the 22081 is newest since the EVO 3D is a newer phone. I'll try it out and see what I get.

EDIT: In that forum there's a 00001 PRL. After reading it looks to be a forced roam PRL (as in you're always using Verizon's network), but if I recall we can't roam period, so unless you want to lose all service I wouldn't use that one.

umm, dya know u can edit the prl itself with qxdm (is that what it's called)or qpst, so far as determining the best settings for your area - that I don't know, but I guess if you don't understand that stuff it dont matter too much just letting you know,
I would try putting all the bands of those PRL's into my own Preferred Roaming List and testing that, hence your phone is open to all channels, although I would also guesa that may use more battery. so a better idea would be to
go into a Cm7 mod,
set the bars at the top.to show DB's edit the prl by testing the signal strength of the bands
for all u know towers in different areas use.different settings.
then save a prl with primarily the strongest tested channels
I myself am satisfied with my service =P

but for those who are unrooted or those who don't want to have to change ROMs, this is a better option.

I too am satisfied with my service, but if I can make it better then why not? That's like asking "you're given a ford focus. You're satisified with it, but you know how to change it into a ferrari for free, all the while gaining the benefits of both (MPG from the focus, speed and "cool" factor from ferrari. Why not do it?"

That and if you're going into CM7 and finding all the towers you connect to most to add them into a PRL and you're still on a stock VM PRL, well...the Sprint ones are going to obviously do better. Sprint limits which towers we can connect to since we're VM customers, it's their way of saving money since we're only paying $25 a month not $70 a month. All we're doing is giving the phone the ability to connect to more Sprint towers should they be near us and not available normally.

Alright, I tested both the 60681 and the 22081 PRLs. I tested them in this order. Put the 60681 PRL on my phone, gave it 10 minutes to utilize itself (by finding the towers, making a good connection etc) Tested 60681 four times using speed test inside Open Signal app, then a small 10 minute break to give the phone to find and utilize the 22081 PRL, then 22081 four times. Keep in mind that although I ran both tests with the same signal strength (4 bars out of 6 total, 51% signal strength according to Open Signal, or -93dBm) Here's my results:

68081
Test 1: ping - 382ms, download - 1318kbps, upload - 422kbps
Test 2: ping - 352ms, download - 1426kbps, upload - 290kbps
Test 3: ping - 295ms, download - 1646kbps, upload - 0kbps
Test 4: ping - 229ms, download - 1561kbps, upload - 431kbps

Average: ping - 314.5ms, download - 1487.75kbps, upload - 381kbps

22081
Test 1: ping - 301ms, download - 1166kbps, upload - 723kbps
Test 2: ping - 233ms, download - 1211kbps, upload - 409kbps
Test 3: ping - 393ms, download - 723kbps, upload - 295kbps
Test 4: ping - 531ms, download - 1636kbps, upload - 536kbps

Average: ping - 364.5ms, download - 1184kbps, upload - 490.75kbps

Keep in mind that different areas might have different speeds simply because maybe Sprint has updated one area but not another. However I have found certain PRLs have better uploads, and certain PRLs have better downloads.

This was just for educational purposes so you can see the difference between the two and make your own judgement call. :)

Hello all, I'm in need of a little help with step 3 from the first post. I have usb debugging on, downloaded the latest drivers straight from LG's site (also tried with the driver version linked in the OP), and "LGE Android Platform USB Serial Port" still doesn't show up under the "Ports" menu. The only two things under the Ports drop down are from RIM (I'm guessing left over stuff from when I used Blackberry).

I'm using Harmonia 1.5 if that matters at all.

If anyone has a guess on why "LGE Android Platform USB Serial Port" isn't showing up for me, I'd really appreciate any and all help! Thanks

You should try turning off you're phone. That is how I do it.
