i just got a replacement evo today cuz part of my touchscreen went dead, expected to have my phone rooted in no time at all only to find this thread :(:(:(:(:(:(:( was running cm7 and need root again to load up a backup so that my phone would be just as it was.

Also for everyone who is pissed for htc not giving the evo an unlocked bootloader, they never said already released phones would get it, they only said that they would look into unlocking future phones' bootloaders

I currently have several offers to swap my Evo for a Nexus... But I kinda wanna hold out because I like Sense, and I really want to root this Evo and get Sense 3.0, but seeing as how thats up in the air....

Should I take the offers or just hold out?

I had a launch day NS4G and returned it because of the radio issues. I'm debating if I should I go get a free one today at Best Buy...

Another update from agrabren on Twitter that "The OG EVO will get root... But some patience is required...", so some good news for those still waiting.

Update from HTC on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/notes/htc/update-on-bootloaders/10150305151453084

**UPDATE 8/3/2011**

Since our last update, many of you have asked how the bootloader unlocking process will actually work, and in particular why HTC's most recently released devices still have a locked bootloader. Rest assured we're making progress toward our goal to roll out the first software updates in August to support unlocking for the global HTC Sensation, followed soon by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. Because unlocking the bootloader provides extensive control over the device and modifications may cause operation, security and experience issues, new devices will continue to ship locked but will support user-initiated unlocking using a new Web-based tool.

So how will this work? The Web tool, which will launch this month, requires that you register an account with a valid e-mail address and accept legal disclaimers that unlocking may void all or parts of your warranty. Then plug in your phone to a computer with the Android SDK loaded to retrieve a device identifier token, which you can then enter into the Web tool to receive a unique unlock key via e-mail. Finally, apply the key to your device and unlocking will be initiated on your phone.

We're excited to bring bootloader unlocking to developers and enthusiasts, and we feel this new Web tool will meet your needs and continue to provide customers with the best experience. Thanks to the community for supporting these efforts!

states nothing about the OG Evo 4g though, but to be honest if it did work on the Evo 4g I would do it just to have my root back

Re: [PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is not possible, yet. Read on...

To be honest (I could be wrong though) I don't see it happening on the Evo 4G.

I really doubt it does either, at least from HTC. Hopefully someone finds it. They found it on the 3vo and sensation and some said those would be impossible. The only question really is if the interest to do it by the devs is there.

I should had quoted the post I was talking about, but yeah I don't see HTC helping with the bootloader. I do see the dev's as I do know of one and maybe two working on it. The one I know of working on it will find it. He is using the 3D but has said the 4G will have root, however I don't think he is in a big hurry as he was with the 3D.

I agree about HTC. I just took my complaints to the "Better Business Bureau". I'm TIRED of getting the run around from SPRINT and HTC about this horrible excuse of an update. We'll see where that gets me!!!!

As desperate as I am to hear I can root my Evo, this forum is the only source I check for updates. Anything worth mentioning on XDA or Twitter?? Thanks!

Not really. Nothing new on xda except 1 or 2 new posts asking if its possible or someone claiming they used a ruu or something to downgrade. It's pretty much a troll and flame fest on xda. As far as Twitter not much there either maybe once a week someone says they are working on it or to be patient but that's about it.
