[PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is [ITS POSSIBLE GUYS!!!] 8/14/11

Re: [PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is not possible, yet. Read on...

unrevoked and alpharev both suck...they lied about working on something for the EVO 4G. I don't trust these guys anymore...and HTC also sucks for locking down phones on an update after telling everyone they would have unlocked bootloaders. I will never buy another HTC phone after the lies and crappy update.

And I will not rely on any devs in the future....buy nexus phones and tell everyone where they can go.

Dude, chill. I understand the frustration of missing the functionality that you could get from rooting, and the feelings of being let down by the devs, but remember that the vast majority of folks who spend time crunching lines of code to give us root access do it for free, maybe for donations by folks who appreciate them. It rarely puts bread and butter on the table for their families. You talk like these devs owe you something. They don't. Most of them work full time jobs and have other obligations than cracking a software update. They put their precious free time into this for us. Be a little gracious and don't be so melodramatic. It's immature. I want root as bad as the next guy, but telling the devs they suck is certainly not going to make them more likely to put in their free time for our phone when their user base is whinging like a bunch of spoilt 2-year-olds.

Just my .02 cents. I'm coming from a Palm Pre, where our Homebrew community worked their butts off to give us patches and overclock kernels and amazing extras that made our phones completely different animals. I'm sure the Android root devs work just as hard. They deserve our respect and thanks, not b*$#@^&*$.

"@agrabren Once HDMwIn and EVO 4G are done, I'm working on something special. I won't call it revolutionary, but it will change how I use my phone."

Sounds like he's still working on freeing the og EVO..........hope he's able to get it done.

Wow, there is some hostel attitude over root. People just be patient. It will be longer than normal for root as there is the latest and newest phone on the market (3D). That phone has become top priority and the OG Evo has took a step down. Just except this type of thing from now on. Evo isn't "top dog" anymore, although it is still an excellent phone.

LOL This is torture looking at tweet and seeing the revolution release, lol almost every htc phone will work with that exploit except htc evo 4g.

It does seem kind of odd, but those phones must have something in common that the 4G doesn't.

SmokeCrawler, Did you read where HTC is no longer going to lock the bootloader on 2.3.3, Whats up with that is it in a update or what ?

Re: [PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is not possible, yet. Read on...

Yeah I read that. That info has been out for awhile. So far nothing has came with/updated with an unlocked bootloader. They just say they are working on it and it isn't as easy as you think. O_o Just give someone a key and let them work it in some type of root method. How hard is it?

For those that are not following Kevin Bruckert (agrabren) on twitter he is working on porting fre3vo exploit to the Evo 4G. Has no ETA.

Here is his Twitter.

So hang in there. Work is still being done to root it for everyone waiting.

I loved my pre and the homebrew community. A more unified patient vibe all around. I like my android buthomebrew was so much simpler...

I do wish some of the other OEMs would follow Palm's lead and basically build in root access from the start. It was nice to open up my replacement phone (only had one, I got lucky) 30 seconds after I walked out the door of the Sprint Store.

Of course, one of the reasons I got a 4G instead of a 3D was because I thought to myself "Hey, this has been out for a while, I won't have to wait a month or more to root, I could do it right away if I wanted to!"

Same here i had the choice getting the 3vo of course for more money but i did not investigate the evo 4g before buying it. I was like in my mind this thing has been rooted and multiple available roms out there for sure, Not knowing they had a update that locked the bootloader, What i dont understand is why they HTC or for that matter any company lock the bootloaders knowing sooner or later a exploit will come out.

Long live palm... Lol. Maybe some day they will rise again. ;-)

Re: [PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is not possible, yet. Read on...

BUMP....to all those working on trying to gain root again for the EVO4G...you have my thanks...HTC needs to just unlock it already!!

Screw it. I'm jumping ship. Called Sprint, got through to advanced tech support, explained my frustration since the GB update, maybe exaggerated a few things, and they are sending me a non-refurb, NIB Ns4G......by this time tomorrow, I'll be rooted and enjoying some cm goodness.....RIP EVO 4 G.......

ahhhhhh.......going todash.........

Re: [PSA] Rooting the new 2.3 is not possible, yet. Read on...

I read "jumping ship" and figured that meant to another carrier. I guess the metaphor isn't perfect.

I've never had a rooted 4G, so the ignorance is allowing me some patience. As long as I believe some devs are working to exploit the GB update, I can deal with it. I just need that glimmer of hope!
