Razr Maxx - Battery Life

Ok. Lately my battery hasn't been consistent. I'm a semi heavy user, internet, phone calls, streaming music, text. This weekend I was getting over 30 hours on a charge now it's anywhere between 10 - 12. Everything is stock. No real change as far as reception goes ( in Chicago area so strong 4G) was thinking about rooting. Would that help battery life? Besides what Braden thinks "porn" is not causing the issue! :D

One of the benefits of rooting is having control over your cpu. You can set it up so that 1 of your cores will turn off when your screen is off and will fire back up when your screen comes on.

I have taken a vow of celibacy, so no more porn!

I'm not doing anything different. So I'm very surprised that it is so erratic.

I had terrible battery life today for no real good reason. Moderate use from 6am and 430pm, and by that point was down to 40%battery. Usually I'd be at 55-65% left.

I'm happy with this phone!

First day on my certified replacement Maxx. I would guess that 60-70 percent has been on wifi, the rest 4G (no more using 3g unless I know I'm in a non or bad LTE area). Battery life is almost as good as pre-ICS. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I look at it this way. A battery's life actually depends on the number of charge/discharge cycles. With my old Droid Incredible, I started noticing the battery discharging more quickly at around the 2 year mark, so let's say that battery would have become pretty bad at around the 3 year mark. Most smartphones need to be charged up at night with typical use, so the practical duration of each charge is maybe 12-18 hours.

Now, with my Maxx, I go 2-3 days between charges. Conservatively, that's around 3 times as long as your average smartphone's charge duration. So hypothetically, if the Maxx's battery has the same number of charge cycles in its lifespan as your average smartphone battery and you're going 3 times as long with each charge, then the battery should last 3 times as long, which means somewhere in the 6-9 year range. By that time, Skynet or the Borg will have taken over, and we'll have smartphones implanted in our brains, so you won't really need your Maxx any more.

The Borg scare me...
