Read first post then post battery results

Alfie -

You may also want to ask folks whether they're using the HTC charger that came with the phone, or something else. For the past few days, I've been using my old Moto charger that I used with my OG Droid. after a full charge (I don't bump charge), the battery would fall fairly rapidly into the low 80% range, after only 15 minutes of awake time. Just now, I charged my phone with the HTC charger. I noticed three things:

1) The phone sat at 99% for a long time. checking the battery widget, the battery was at 4207mV for quite a while (full on mine is 4208mV).

2) Looking at the current widget (from the market)...the charging current dropped to a very low trickle at the end...was around 50mA before it the phone finally reported a full charge.

3) Now, with awake time of 00:02:18, it just dropped to 99% charge. Would have been far lower by now with the moto charger.

So, I'm wondering if the HTC charger does a better job of cramming every little bit into the battery...like bump charging does. Might be worth tracking in this thread.

I wonder what you're doing differently than I am. I've been trying just about anything to get longer battery life

I use Juice Defender Beta and turned my auto synch off. I can get my email and weather and stuff like that refreshed when I want to by clicking on it. Brightness at 25%, Don't use wifi, gps or anything like that unless I'm driving somewhere and need it. That's really it.

yes you have to hit back or menu exit to close apps if not they will stay running in the back round and keep your awake time going even when the phone is sleeping.

I just checked all the apps I would have used today and there aren't any that would stay on and none of them have the "exit" option when I have them open and hit menu. Gasbuddy only updates when I want it to. Email only synchs when I open it and refresh it. My weather widget only refeshes when I tell I hit the refresh button.

Ok well I've only been putting my phone on the charger at night to test how it does but I also checked off the setting to keep the screen on when plugged in. This makes my current results rather useless to say the least but from simple observations I have to say my battery beats the bad rap given to it by the "phone experts" who have been posting know-nothing articles for the past 2 months.

I digress. My current up time since my last reset yesterday is 25 hours and my awake time is 19 hours. Now obviously that's due to the screen being up while charging. Tomorrow I'll do a more accurate test for the purposes of this thread.

Also my battery's at 36% and the backlight uses 81% of the juice consumed. It's been unplugged for 6 hours. Standalone GPS/google location on, sync multiple accounts ~once an hour, keep screen on auto brightness, use the galaxy live wallpaper, social network, browse, text and play games a LOT. I use power control plus because it's an awesome utility program, juice defender beta, the HTC battery widget to keep a regular eye on the level, and the process monitor widget. I never use wi-fi and don't have 4G coverage so I'm on 3G. I've calibrated the battery and done some miscellaneous fixes like the blockbuster trick.

Also I'm going to have to say that being anal about exiting programs is silly. Android is good at house cleaning and will close unused programs after about a minute of down time. Otherwise they get pushed to the background and put on hold while you're still up. I leave bejeweled and zynga poker running without a second thought. In the long run leaving apps running makes a minimal difference in battery life.

I pretty much do all those things. I did however go into my Manage Applications and force close a bunch of things that were running that I wasn't using or don't use. We'll see if they does anything.

It may or may not, depending on the app. It's my understanding that certain things are just programmed to run in the background and will restart themselves whether you access them or not - this is why people recommend not using task killers.

The other day i left angry birds open my phone went from 98% to 69% in 1hr with the screen off after reading and all this searching i found that if apps are not closed they keep the phone awake even if the screen is off so you might be getting lucky with a low powered app that is running your awake time up. Idk

Hmmmm...well I guess I'll find out. Things like the Calendar, Visual Voicemail (which I don't use), VZ Nav, and a few other things were running. It just seems wierd that I've barely used my phone for a total of 2hrs and its down below 50%.

some of those will just keep reopening over and over sucking your batt down even more i learned that on sat. advance killers and all that are not good

The way i got around this was i uninstalled all the crap i dl, turned off all updates and push. in locations i turned everything off except 911.

I turned everything off or down to try to get better battery no luck so far.

Hey guys, try this: if you're in an office or house all day with consistent access to WiFi, keep your WiFi ON and set the sleep policy to Never Sleep (in the Advanced menu of the Wireless & Networks menu). That way your phone will stop looking for a data connection (be it 3G or 4G) and will really help to save your battery. I've managed to get 30+ hours out of my battery per charge doing that on my Incredible.

Had my TB since Monday. After a charge/reboot this morning

Up Time: 8:40
Awake Time: 3:24

Current Battery Level: 7%

I'm now at 12:20 up time and 3:15 awake time with 30% left. I've always been using WiFi for the past 2 1/2 hours

I did this yesterday. Unfortunately I was pretty busy and wasn't a heavy user but here's the results:

Up time: 15:41
Wake time: 2:05
battery percent left: 59%

I have the stock battery. Most of those 2 hours of use were calls and Pandora.

So it looks like 2-5hrs of use for most people but mainly about 4hrs. The ones with 4 or more prolly have a app running in the backround keeping the phone awake or playing music with the screen off.

They said 6.3hrs of use where getting half that. Thats all i wanted to figure out before i return it. I need 5+hrs of use a day min.

Yeah great the phone will last most of the day but then i cant use it. If i use it how i want i only get to lunch time....

Thanks everyone for your help! Guess i will wait for the bionic or the iphone 4gs or 5 if its 4g and the plans are unlimited.

THANKS!!!

Today i left 4g on and my battery is dead with only 2hrs of awake time. So 4g really does suck the battery down big time. After i recharge im going to try wifi but i am returning the phone either way to many problems.

Ok so after some tweaks last night, my battery is holding on strong today.

Up time: 4hrs
Awake time: 45mins
I'm still at 86%

I stopped FriendStream from syncing, seems kinda pointless anyway since I have the Facebook app. I also dl'd Juice Defender Beta and that seems to be making a difference as well. Its saying my battery life has increased x1.81 since I've had it running.

Ok so at roughly the same time today:

Up time: 4hrs
Awake time: 39mins
Battery Life: 80%

I feel like I've tried every reccomendation that people have made on here, yet nothing is really changing that much.

What makes you think the Bionic will be much better in the battery department? I know plenty of people personally, and have seen plenty of reports online about the Atrix 4G having battery issues as well.. and the Bionic is basically the same phone.

As for the iPhone, it is unlikely that Apple will release a 4G phone until at least 2012 from everything I've read. And it's also unlikely that Verizon will see another iPhone release this year. It'll likely be a 6-8 month delay again, and we'll see the iPhone 5 or whatever in January or February.

bionic is said to have a 1900mh battery if the tb had that i would keep it.

Iphone 4g or 5 who know all i know is i had the iphone 4 and loved it but the screen was too small. I could sit on it non-stop for 7-9hrs before the battery died non-stop playing games and web!!!!

The tb non stop died in 3hrs web and games.

We will just have to wait and see you know. BUt the tb is not for me.

I wish there was a ext battery for the tb that added mass to the hole back then id keep it but i dont like bumps in the middle i carry my phone in pocket and it wouldnt feel right lol

I have to agree with the OP that something is definitely wrong with the battery on this phone. The display seems to use the most battery... Here is what I don't understand a Xoom has a screen over 5 times larger (102 in^2 vs 18.5in^2) . It has a battery 4.5 times larger (~6300 mAh vs. 1400 mAh). This means relative to screen size, the Xoom actually has a smaller battery. From posts in this thread is seems like most people are getting anywhere from 2-4 hours of Awake Time which is actual use of the TB.

So how does the Xoom get 8-10 hours of actual use while we are only getting 2-4 hours of actual use when they should be nearly the same based on screen and battery size?

For many people, it would barely be possible to watch a full length movie on their phone before the battery dies right now.

Enough ranting. Here are my results since this morning.

Unplugged around 6:15am. Rebooted. Battery reads 100% then quickly drops to 98% minutes later.

Now:
Up Time: 3:55
Awake Time: 1:06
58% Remaining (62% from display which is set at ~20% brightness).

I have background sync disabled. I've done the Blockbuster disable. 3G all day (I have LTE disabled even though in LTE area). Perhaps I should try Juice Defender? I may try disabling 1 additional item each day to see what kind of impact each thing has.
