Release Date?

Just received the April "Sprint Premier Connection" email newsletter. The Nexus is featured, however no release date is given. Still "Coming Soon". Ugh.

I'd be willing to bet that it won't be the May 8th date. That is when the Samsung Replenish will launch. Sprint announced that today. They never launch two phones on the same day.

The replenish isn't even on the same level as the nexus s though. I don't think Sprint would mind launching a feature phone and a smart phone on the same day. But guess we shall just have to see.

This is just a thought but here is another reason why the Nexus S 4G is late. After the big quake hit Japan, Samsung had to close 3 of their manufacturing plants in Japan. All of those plants made parts for cell phones, and 2 of those plants are in the evacuation zone around the destroyed and leaking nuclear reactors near Tokyo. Ever since that quake, Samsung, Motorola, AND HTC have had problems getting phones out on time all over the world. Betcha that is why our phone isn't out yet. Might actually be something completely out of the control of Sprint and everyone else.

I thought Samsung would have most of their factories in South Korea.

So did I, but eWeek, Computerworld, and other trade journals and news media state that many of the raw materials for the camera lenses and touch screens are actually only available in Japan and no where else. Makes senses that they would build the plants where the materials are.

In. Addition, I talked to someone at Samsung's Customer Service a couple minutes ago and she said the same thing. Apparently all their phones are running 2-3 weeks or more behind schedule in production due to the quake in Japan, and that Motorola, HTC, Kyocera, Apple, and everyone else are having the same problems. She said they were hoping to get the Nexus S 4G out to US stores sometime between April 18 and May 15.

So maybe the dates we have been seeing here the forum will be right after all.

Just thought everyone here would be interested in this news.

Hope these phones don't have any irradiated parts in them, don't want to be putting anything like that next to my head or in my pocket lighting up the family jewels.:'(

Being irradiated does not make something radioactive. Smearing cesium-137 all over it on the other hand.... :p

I called Sprint yesterday to inquire about switching to them from T-mobile. When asked what devices I was interested in I told him 2 Nexus S 4G's and and the EVO Shift 4G. He said that if I wanted the $125.00 service credit then I would have to sign up by April 16th and that he could not set me up with the Nexus S until Sunday the 17th. I told him that getting the Nexus S was more important than the $125 and he told me that he could call me anytime on Sunday to set me up. I asked him again to be sure that it was the Nexus S 4G that I wanted and that it would be available for shipping on Sunday. He said yes and set up 9:00am phone time to call me and get them coming. To good to be true? I would think that if it wasn't true then he would have tried to push another device or get a deposit for the Nexus, right?

I dunno. I went into my local sprint store yesterday and the store manager said they've received no information on the Nexus whatsoever. I told him I was on the fence between upgrading and renewing my contract and going to tmo for the new G2X and that didn't make him budge on any info.

I was told a similar thing yesterday by the guy at my local Sprint store. I went in to put my name on the waiting list for a Nexus S 4G. I expected to have to buy a $50 gift card as is stated on the Sprint website, but they did not require that. He simply took my name and contact info (maybe it was because I am a Sprint customer already). Anyway, he said he anticipated calling me on Sunday (4/17) for me to come get the phone. We'll see. Sounded too good to be true. :-\

I just called the Sprint store in my area, they said they can't give information about when will it be released. I think they know when it will come out.
