Release Updates and Other News

Not sure if this means anything to us but I was just over at the Verzon support forums and a lot of people are still having major problems with 4G. Could they still be having too many problems to release a new phone? If this is the case why not just say "hey guys our sh#t is broken right now and we want to fix it before we release a new 4g phone." I would be totally fine with that but instead I sit here like a crazy person checking on the hour every hour for updates. Damn you Verizon! LOL

I think I broke my refresh key :)

I am pretty sure they delay was to sell more 3g phones like the Incredible 2 and more iphones. The more people they lock into 2 year contracts the less people they will have using the lte network. After using the phone for a few day I can honestly say there is no problem with this phone and it is ready to go. My phone has been on for over a day with moderate-heavy usage and still is sitting at 40% battery.

Verizon doesn't care what kind of smartphone you buy, just as long as you're paying as much for a plan as possible. I doubt that there is anything wrong with the Charge, but there are problems with the network, so yes it's possible they want to prevent people from buying 4G phones, but 4G is what they can use to entice new customers on the network, not 3G, so it doesn't make much sense for them to hold back the LTE devices, unless they're having problems with their network.

i have a TB and 4G in my area and it handles going from 4G to 3G with no problem. i also have the stand alone mi fi and use it in and out of 4G. both are blazing fast as hot spots. i would also say that the 3G on the mi fi is faster than normal 3G.

i am in the charlotte area and the network seems great here.

The general consensus is that the T-bolt was already for sale and they couldn't easily pull it without creating mass confusion

Correct, big difference between not introducing something, and yanking something that has been on the market for a month, off the market. Not to mention it would be a PR nightmare.

Just received an email this morning comfirming there is no release date yet for the Charge. (VZW agent here) Its still TBD - no new launch date at this time. :(

Don't forget they stated the 4G data plans were going to change this summer, and if the delay continues we could get stuck with something that costs a lot more.

I decided to do some research yesterday, just to get an idea of how differently the Charge performed compared to the Thunderbolt. I was amazed at the hard sell I was getting for the TB. Two of the reps gave almost word for word bad reviews of the Charge that they ?were able to review?. It was obvious that they were only interested in selling a phone (any phone) NOW no matter what the customer would be happy with.

That is true but I don't think that was the plan. After all its not like they said hey lets fk with the consumers will say april 28th give out all kinds of shirts to our people and when people come in we will delay the launch for a few weeks until we can charge more for data. I'm guessing the 4g hiccup is the culprit for the delays. After all, Every retailer I tried to get one from have at least 10 of the phones sitting on the shelves just, can't sell them yet. So I'm guessing once they get the hiccup worked out of the 4g network they will give the go ahead.

But the question remains is when they get the 4G back up full capacity will they wait until their customary Thursday release dates before they release the phone. In other words is the next possible release date next Thursday 5/12?

I'm sure they'd hold out untill Thursday.

Probably a Thursday not necessary this Thursday, I have a buddy that works for Verizon, Although he has not heard a release date from Verizon and was not officially told why the delay. He has received a memo that the 4g network is still experiencing intermittent problems. Were 4g users will lose a signal for a few minutes then re connect. I'm willing to bet there will be no more 4g releases until the network is up to 100%. Verizon would hate to cripple the system with a release of a bunch more 4g devices until they get the kinks worked out.

This is just ridiculous! VZW really needs to fix whatever their issue is and release this phone. I need a new phone badly, but I don't want to get a 3G phone, and the Thunderbolt is a battery sucker, if this phone doesn't launch in the next week I just might have to go to Spring and get an EVO and extended battery. Although it's not my preferred choice because I love the DROID branded phones and it seems that so far the Charge is the Best 4G phone as of late.

In case anyone didn't see the CostCo notice, Phil posted this...
http://www.androidcentral.com/costc...mpaign=Feed:+androidcentral+(Android+Central)

It indicates that the next status update will be coming Mon, May 9th.

But lest you think that means a release date announcement, remember that a similar update was promised soon after the launch delay, and all we found out later was that there was no date yet set. still, I'm hoping that the news is that it will come out Thurs along with the Droid X2, and we'll actually have a choice of good phones.

Verizon is good at putting out a date about updates only to say there is no update.

Dont know if this a sign but I order the extended battery from verizon when I order it he said id get it by fri. So when I didnt I called back and this lady told me that it was scheduled to be delivered on may 9, when I asked why he told me fri, she said she didnt know. So maybe may 9 means something

This is exactly like the fascinate froyo release. Delayed for unknown reason for very long time. Lots of rumors flying around, then sudden official word with no appologies for the delay.
They just have a way of doing things which is very disconcerting.
They will release it when they release it and that is just the way they do it. Sad

No respect for the customers OR their device partners. There are those of us, like myself, who recognize that the network is always more important than the device (as long as the device actually works and lasts on the network) and will likely stick with VZW unless driven off by a customer service issue or unacceptably high prices. But the fact is, many people are drawn to a certain carrier mainly by what phones they offer, they don't think about service or plan costs until they've already signed the contract. And they're going to lose sales if they continue to delay the few devices they have that are competitive with other carriers' flagships. And I can't imagine the manufacturers are going to be clamoring to make devices for VZW if this is how their products will be treated.

Whats the difference if it's 50,000 Droid Charges or 50,000 Thunderbolts ? Makes no sense to me .
