Quick NOte, I am still on the stock ROM... I just purchased these phones yesterday... SO far the root is cool, CWM is working, I will say this phone is easier to get into download mode than my vibrants were...

Ahh, still stock. Well ODIN does work for sure when it works. It is easier to see that there is an issue because it provides some feedback. It is just a pain to pull the battery and hook up a cable but it is a more sure way to do it.

Both phones show kernel version 2.6.29 Not sure if that helps....

Also, ODIN is not a possibility for me at the moment. I'll have to FIND a PC to use....

So, did you use ODIN to install CWM_All earlier at a PC? How was that installed? You want to make sure that you are not using CWM_Froyo which is the same build number.

You can use these instructions to install CWM_All without using ODIN.

Installing from older versions of clockwork only
Download CWM flashable zip HERE
Place on the root of your SD card
Boot into recovery
apply sdcard:update.zip
enter clockwork recovery
choose install zip from sd
choose cwm-recovery-ALL.zip
Reboot your phone
delete update.zip from root of SD card
also delete recovery-update.zip from clockworkmod folder

It sounds like the version of CWM you have is causing the ROM flash to hang. If you see a couple of error messages when starting your CWM then you definitely have the wrong version.

It could also be a messed up ROM file that will need to be downloaded again to make sure you get a complete file.

Also your kernel version is old. The new kernel will be 2.6.32.9.

Sorry No, I want to stay non-voodoo. More like what ApeaceofStrange is saying, although I rebooted Astro and found a VooDoo folder with lagfix file? already in it at the bottom of the list that must have been loaded or included in one of the SC 2.9 flashes I done, are you supposed to add a fake lagfix folder with it.

If there is already a subfolder in the voodoo folder called disable_lagfix, no need to make another one. If the folder that is already there just says lagfix, you need to create one that is called disable_lagfix. Then flash the kernel in cwm.

Download and extract:

1-click-clockworkmod-2.1-to-2.2-v1.0.zip

Enable USB debugging and Stay awake under Settings > Applications > Development, leave the phone in the Development window
Plug your phone into your computer
Double click kernel.app, confirm install (process should take about a minute)
Phone will be rebooted automatically if first step was successful
When your phone boots back up, double click cwm.app, confirm install (process should take less than 20 seconds)
Phone will be rebooted automatically if second step was successful
Close terminal


I am on EA28 so I believe this was the correct method...

@giles117 - Your cwm says version 2.5.1.x but what color is the script, green or red? If it is red do you have bitmap error messages in white toward the bottom of the screen?

I tried redownloading it twice as that was my first assumption....

Thanks landshark,as always I appreciate the help. I'm too tired and don't have access to a PC in case of an emergency so I'm gonna sleep on it for now. Perhaps tomorrow ill flash.

Is it safe to assume one these new kernels would be included in the next version of superclean?

I also have another question out of curiosity for anyone who may know. Is there a reason why for this kernel, to stay nonvoodoo you have to create the disable lagfix folder, as opposed to the other kernels such as eb16 that had voodoo and nonvoodoo downloads?

No nonvoodoo kernels available and may not be any built since there is a way for nonvoodoo people to use them. Adrynalyne almost always uses the latest kernels that work in his superclean ROMs, but no telling how long it will be until the next superclean comes out. Right now all the devs are working on kernels first, then ROMs.

I read somewhere that there was an issue with the home button mapping on this new kernal. Is this true or has it been fixed? Thanks.

Issue was with jt's first source kernel. If you are looking to flash Adrynalyne's kernel he used jt's new kernel that took care of that issue.

Ok, so if I understand this correctly, you have followed Braydon525's methods to root and to install cwm-all and now you need to upgrade to Froyo. Let me do some reading and see what I can find out. I have not read Braydon's posts because I don't have a mac and I don't like trying to help people if I can't perform the same steps.

Yep, I rooted them, ROM'ed one with Axura's Rom (beautiful ROM nice battery mods, etc..)

And the other with Team Whiskey's Bionix 1.3.x Another beautiful rom.

All running Voodoo Lagfix, etc... Loved those phones. I didn?t overclock them, though I was tempted. LOL...

I am just hoping I can get these to Froyo and see if I can theme them...

Can you go menu=>settings=>about phone and tell me what it says under the following:

firmware version
baseband version
kernel version
build number

Much respect for that mindset... I had my vibrants down. I would download any ROM updates or rom changes (All voodoo of course) directly to the internal SD. No need to connect to a CPU once I had it running...

These SC 2.9.2 roms have been directly downloaded in the same manner...

Also giles, I just checked and Braydon525 is logged in. It sounds like the method you tried didn't work and you are still at Eclair (2.1) You may be better off posting in Braydon's mac thread as he would be the best person to help you.

Well if my guess was correct and you were still at Eclair you would have ended up in boot loop city if it had installed. I saw you just posted in Braydon's thread so I will follow that. I would still like to find out what your info says under about phone if you ever come back and read this.

So what is everyone's general concensus on which kernel to go with right now?

Although I am intrigued by the super undervolted kernels over on xda, I think I am going to continue to run Adry's kernel update from the OP in this thread...

just want to hear all of your thoughts on this as well....
