Returned Note 4, BRING ON THE NEXUS 6

I love how the new Note 4 commercials really push the use of the s-pen. I had the Note 3 and used the s-pen like 5 times ever. I am sure that many use it, but I am not artistic so I don't doodle. If I need to input something into my phone, call me crazy but I use a keyboard(Swifkey). I think Samsung knows that the N6 is a beast that is coming for their dollars and they are trying to keep people by using things like the s-pen to keep their customers. Again just my opinion.

Samsung has always aggressively advertised the S pen as a big part of the Note series. It's how they distinguish their product from pretty much anything else on the market.

Like you, I never use my S pen, so it's of no value to me. However, I'm sure it's a big part of why many people buy Notes.

There's always a debate over whether or not the latest Samsung device lags.
Skip the debate, buy Nexus.

That's not true at all in my experience. The Nexus 5 was SMOOTH every single time. There was zero inconsistency in it's performance. I'm actually surprised i'm having to defend it because it was so smooth and consistent. I LOVE my Note 4 and feel like I will be content for a long time with it, however it lags like a mother in quite a few scenarios. Call it lag, call it a pause, call it learning patience, call it santa clause, it's LAG. To me, lag is no big deal because I kinda expect computers to take a bit of time to do things. However the Nexus 5 did not lag once in the 11 months i've owned it.

I owned it for a month and it took the same amount of time to take a pic and see the picture in gallery ...

No offense because I know different users can have valid, different experiences. But i'll take my 11 months of experience over your 1 month of experience. Mine was spot on every single time. And i'm not giving the Nexus line more credit than it deserves here, because I've got the Note 4 on my desk.

THANK YOU!!!!! I'm involved in a debate in another thread in the Note 4 forum about a reviewer that wasn't impressed by the Note 4, yet also mentions they NEVER tried the S pen. I get that it's not used by everyone all the time, but Samsung obviously pushes it and invests a ton of their time and money into that feature. Clearly that's what they want to have distinguish the Note line and so like it or not, it's the key feature according to Samsung.

I would of had it longer but no wifi calling and bad battery I had to give it up when I moved to t-mobile ....I only had it like 6 months ago and clearly remember my experience with it ....

Also whatever you want to call it lag or whatever it is intentional since I'm using the Google camera app and it's not there

The Google camera app does make a huge difference. I can attest to that. I believe any lag in the stock camera app is obviously because Samsung hasn't optimized their software to take advantage of the hardware. I'm excited to see what they do with the camera in subsequent updates.

I bought the note 3 because of 2 reasons bigger screen and better battery then the nexus 5. Also had wifi calling but any t-mobile phone has it . Never cared for the s pen and while I rarely use it still on the note 4 still prefer the features like IR blaster

Now that just blew up in LegalAmerican's face... ROFL.

Oh, I'm the one he is debating with in that other thread because I refute his statements that the S Pen is the only reason to buy a Note series phone and that you can absolutely review it without using the S Pen.

Nothing blew up in my face. He was stating the same two things I mentioned in our other thread that I could see someone wanting the Note for. Did you not read my post where I mentioned bigger battery and bigger screen being things I could understand?

And you're just trying to be combative at this point because i've re-iterated at least 3 times to you that I never said the S pen was the only reason to buy the Note. What's your problem? You're ignoring what i'm saying, to try and emphasize what you thought I was saying. Once you raised your concerns with my statements, I clarified them for you. It's SAMSUNG that pushes the S pen, and therefore, any review that doesn't include the features of the S pen is an incomplete review of the Note series. If you review the Note without using the S pen, you're just reviewing the Galaxy S device with a better battery. Is there a reason you refuse to acknowledge that I never said the S pen is the only reason to buy the Note?

You did say that the S Pen was the reason to buy the Note. You clearly said that you saw no reason to buy the Note if you weren't going to use the S Pen and that there were other phones you should instead buy. It's in my replies to you in the other thread when I quoted you.

Multiple people have replied to you saying that they couldn't care less about the S Pen and only after that did you change the tone.

Here are quotes of you saying the Note shouldn't be bought if you don't care about the S Pen. Am I making these up?

I enjoyed reading your feedback, however I was disturbed when you said you hadn't used the S pen so you wont comment on that.

I don't understand why ANYONE would buy the Note series if you aren't going to use the S pen. If you want the Samsung feel, get the S series. If you want a big phone, get one of the many big phones. People buy a Note, and then they compare it to all these other devices, and almost ALWAYS they follow it up with: "I didn't use the Note's biggest strength, so I can't comment on that."

My wife has the Moto X 2014 and the speaker is amazing. I love how snappy it is to use, and she loves it as well. My dad also has that phone and that was my second choice. The Note has good and bad to discuss, but might I recommend trying out the best that the Note has to offer instead of just comparing the best that other phones have to offer to the Note, and not the best of what the Note has to offer to other phones?

Then don't buy a Note! Samsung has chosen to make the Note ABOUT the S pen. If you don't give a hot da** about it, then all i'm saying is don't buy it and then wonder why the device doesn't seem as special as another device that focused on something you require. If I absolutely HAVE to have amazing external speaker quality, I am not going to buy an HTC One and then a Galaxy S5 and compare the two and say that the S5 let me down tremendously. IT didn't. I just didn't do my research and I set it up for failure. Others who might want the kitchen sink in terms of features, would be doing themselves a disservice getting a Nexus and saying it sucks because it didn't do what the S5 did.

I'm no Samsung fanboy, however I am a fanboy of doing research and looking into the strengths of a phone before I choose which one underperforms based on my expectations. That's all i'm saying. I know the S pen isn't for everyone, and those people don't need to buy a Note. If you want the big screen, get the Nexus 6 or the Galaxy Mega or the iPhone 6+ or the G flex, or any number of other big screens that focus on what you do need/want in a device.

I changed the tone because I realized I hadn't been clear in my original post, and your reply ignored the many other points I clearly made and focused on the one that I had been unclear on. I still do believe (as another person stated) that there's other devices available now that are a great choice if you aren't using the S pen, including the Nexus 6. I personally, do not see why anyone who knows they'll never use the Spen, would want the Note 4 as opposed to the other devices out there. That doesn't mean there's no other reason to buy the Note, but to buy it and then complain that Samsung focuses on the S pen is ludicrous. At the very least, know that you wont use the pen but you know you bought a Note and therefore, it will get brought up.

From here on, please feel free to Private Message me with any complaints about what my opinion is. I no longer want to hijack threads to argue over why Samsung (and me) thinks the S pen is a big deal on it's Note line of devices.

Good idea. So let's say I return the note 4 for a "loaner" phone, like the LG G3. Will I be able to return the G3 within 14 days too?

I think I've decided to pre-order the nexus 6. Like you said want to try out my options. I agree longevity doesn't seem to be there with the note 4. . I should be psyched to have this phone but I was not very impressed at all. Do I like the note 4. Yes. If I paid it out of my own pockets would I be happy with it, hell no.

(my employer reimburse fully my Note 4 purchase)

No I meant like buy a dumb phone (less than 100 bucks) and use it until u get N6, unless you have another smartphone layin around or someone u know has a smart phone u can use. I believe if u exchange phone at carrier your 14 day period does not renew but stays with the new phone

See but thats thing, in my experience I wanted to use what samsung offered me so I could have a true Note experience the way they intended me to. The same way anyone who is switching over from the iPhone would use it. Most of those people find it harder to use the phone if you have to download another app to replace the app that came with the phone so tht it moves faster, and tbh I would have to agree. I like being able to customize with android but when I customize it gives me more options. I dont do it to replace the manufacturers stock app because its moving slow. With Nexus, I havent had to worry about that yet.

I also bought a Note 4 on launch day and returned it to Best Buy today. The screen and camera were amazing but the lag was the deal breaker. Lots of lag in the camera app and app switcher. Very annoying considering all the power that the hardware has. Much improved over the Note 3 and even the S5 but still not where a flagship device should be. Having owned all the nexus devices as well, I'm definitely looking forward to picking up a Nexus 6 for Verizon.

i didnt get that far i liked my note 3 was excited for note 4 and had a preorder but cancelled the minute this phone was announced. always wanted a nexus but love verizons speed and did not want to switch networks to get one. cant wait to order this beast. it suits my needs better for i use all googles apps etc. the note 4 is beautiful but i dont use the uneeded samsung stuff and want only google and the moto x albeit nice, was too small for me.
