Returning my Galaxy Nexus.

Used an Incredible, a Thunderbolt and an Incredible 2 in the past 18 months. I'm done with Sense. It's fine and all, but was pretty much using a customized GoLauncher most of the time anyway. Sense is just too bloated. I'm done with skins I think. Tho the Rezound and Razr both look like fantastic phones.

Fact of the matter is...it's GREAT to see Verizon getting such awesome phones. I remember back in the early 2000's when Verizon was slow to the bluetooth party...they NEVER got the high end phones. Now they are getting everyone's best stuff. Awesome!

How to launcher affect Sense? I used Launcher Pro on my Droid X but since Sense is a pretty heavy overall, how much does it do away with? Does the keypad and contacts screen still look the same? Those were the 2 things (other than the main launcher) that I just couldn't get used to/didn't care for.

I can understand your point, I got NookColors and rooted them, installed CM7 on them for myself, my daughter, my husband, my niece! My niece asked me to turn it back to stock and my husband has never really gotten his figured out. Should have left his stock too! I got him a Lenovo Tablet that I'm going to absolutely NOT touch because he needs something he can use out of the box. I think the best smartphone for him would be rezound or razr or even and iphone. I one the other hand looked at the rezound and razer only to see there are hardly any forums on the phones, there doesn't seem to be much being done with them as far as rooting and custom ROMs so they didn't even appeal!
Enjoy whatever you end up with! I do think with time tho you would love the Nexus!

Yeah...alot of the Sense stuff still remained (the dialer being the worst offender). Obviously the stock keyboard was there too and a lot of the contact management stuff. The Launcher really only modified the home screens. The underlying stuff was all still Sense...which is just so so.

I think I'll be joining the OP. I really love this phone...or should I say, ICS. For me, coming from a Droid X and an Iphone, the low speaker/notification/ringtone volume is not acceptable. I've missed calls both days I've had the phone. The screen is nice, but there is a slightly green/gray hue to the screen. Much worse at lower brightness.

More importantly, the signal strength issues is huge. I live about 20 from town. In town, I get great LTE coverage, but at home, I only get service if I stand in certain parts of the house or set my phone in certain areas. I've compared the signal db on both a Droid 2 and Droid X to my Nexus and it simply has worse signal strength. The signal strength is kinda a double whammy too because with all the time looking for a signal, it's eating away at battery life.

I really REALLY hate HTC sense but it seems that the rezound is the next best thing. :-\
I have nearly the same thoughts. I am overall very happy with ICS. I managed a work around for the lower speaker / notification / ringtone issue by installing my own that were recorded at much higher levels. The killers for me though are the signal strength issues and battery life. A medium strength issue is the blunder of making the notification and ringer volume tied together. I plan on holding on the phone for another 3 weeks to see how things work out. Will the next update to ICS address these issues? I hope so. If these issues don't get better then my plan is to return for a refund and just pick up a Bionic and wait to see what pops up over the summer. I really want this phone to work out for me, but if it does everything awesomely except be a phone, then it wont work for me.

Always use the 14 days. It is just good business. :p
Remember, we have 30 days due to the holidays.

The browser is a strong point for me. I like the way you can make folders within your favorites

Funny you mention the browser. They made some changes with ICS and while its serviceable, Im none too excited. I can live with it though.

OP here. Actually they are giving us until mid January.

Also, I am coming from the T-Bolt and have thoroughly enjoyed Sense, so I do know what I'm getting.

I think my breaking point was that it can't keep my signal for Radio.com or Tuneinradio. ANd I'm in huge market with 4G - Phoenix.

I like the browser I guess. Was hoping they were going to add in the thumb navigation buttons like my Transformer has....really really wish it had that.

Ditto! I know this phones is going to be awesome because of developer support. However, I need it to be good/great phone first. Even with it's large screen, I would purchase a tablet, if the phone function wasn't so important.

I'm willing to tough it out until Jan 14 in hope that a combination of familiarity, OTA updates, and developers will address the volume issue, which is major.

I returned the original droid because I couldn't forward emails with attachments, which I do for work quite often. I switched to the storm 2. Good, solid phone but it was so boring, I soon felt like I was driving a trusty old Buick.

What the OP may not know is that google listens and will send out OTA updates with fixes until they get it right. The OG Droid did get an update that fixed the forwarding issue. I was stuck with the storm because of my contract. That droid ended up blossoming into an amazing phone with die hard fans similar to apple fans.

My Droid X had volume issues at the beginning that also was fixed with an update. I ended up liking that phone a lot. I really wanted the iphone, but Verizon didn't carry it at the time. Around the time Verizon got the iphone, I started to explore rooting my phone followed by experimenting with roms.

It had a challenging learning curve. From trial and error, combined with a great deal of support in various droid x forums, I was rewarded with the gifts of the android operating system.

Roms that would mimic, duplicate, and sometimes surpass whatever was the hottest software attributes that came out to other phones while I was under contract. There are android developers that have produced results that neither google nor the carrier had thought to do.

As I speak, there is a developer from Spain who has fixed the volume issue. He has fixed it on the GSM model and has people testing it on our 4g lite GN. Our phone was released yesterday! LOL

If you can afford to be patient, willingness to learn, and experiment, you will soon understand why so many are willing to be the guinea pigs. If your not a tech fan, not interested in a phone with a learning curve, you may need to return the phone. Get the rezound or activate your old phone until everything smoothes out.

I no longer crave the iphone and blackberries are headed toward an ending like palm. Although a fan of android, I am not typical of the demographic. I am an artsy woman in her late 40s into rooting and flashing roms.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Nexus have an abbreviated version of the Transformer's Quick Controls (under settings/labs)?

Maybe it's just a Honeycomb feature and will be changed when the Transformer gets ICS. I certainly hope the full Quick Controls make it into the tablet version of ICS. It's one of my favorite and most used features of the stock browser.

Volume+ app really improved the low speaker issue!

First time, I wasn't impressed . Until, I realized I had the wrong app. The exact search term is " Volume+ (Sound Boost) ". You can copy & paste that into the android market search field minus the quotation marks. The free version doesn't have sound boost in it's title and the volume level won't go up high enough. In preferences in the app, you need to be able to select somewhere between 8-10. Too low, nothing and too high doesn't work either.

Very important, when you download the app for the first time, there is quick one time visual tutorial. Do everything exactly what it says to do, if not, won't work. If you can take screen shots of the directions, your better off. After the one time, you would have to un—install and than re—install to see it again. It only comes up right after the initial install.

The only variance is your volume number in the preferences . Test, if it's working, by listening to the preset ring tones in the system settings of the phone.
I was afraid, that I might of had to exchange the phone because the speaker volume was so bad. This app makes a significant difference.

For those like me, not into rooting and roms, the "pure android" experience was a bust. Didn't do (easily) thing I wanted, such at placing shortcuts of specific files on my home screens, and required more navigation steps for some functions.

I may be wrong, but for an average user not going to use custom roms and stuff, a nice htc sense skin proved to be a more pleasant experience.

Come on, THIS IS THE GREATEST PHONE EVER!!!!!!!!! YOU HAD TO HAVE IT!!!!!!

My nexus is customized to look just like it has sense. Check the market or other threads. U can make ur android experience to custom fit ur needs...

Try:
Beautiful widgets
Launcher pro

Yeah, this is the thing that escapes a lot of users. I find it especially escapes iPhone converts. Android is all about choices. You can have just about anything you want, you just need to go get it.

That is great and one of the reasons that I wanted this phone. But to whom are they listening to? Any idea how we go about contacting them to make sure they are aware of our concerns? Oh and I had a Storm2 as well.

Agreed. Just keep in mind that the clock is ticking at T-28 days and counting.

There's even an app to make it look like an iPhone! :)

All a matter of opinion and personal needs. As far as I'm concerned, outside of ics the nexus felt like a POS. I'm still rocking my X with liberty. The Nexus felt cheap, camera bugged me, especially since I can get all it's options with a third party camera app. What really killed it was the imminent release of quad cores. I've always been a Moto fan, can't beat their build quality and was prepared to let em go but the Nexus isn't it. Almost got the Razr but again with CES in Jan and the Razr Maxx rumored I'm holding out lol. You gotta decide what YOU want and what you're willing to sacrifice.

What is your deal? Why do you keep saying this? For me it IS the GREATEST PHONE EVER!!! There are going to be complaints regardless. So don't act like it's a horrible phone just because it doesn't say Droid. Also the reason it may seem like there are a lot of complaints is because a TON of people bought the thing. This forum isn't the most active for no reason.
