[ROM][4.19.2011] Das BAMF 1.5

That's what I've been doing as well. I assumed that was the required method. I'm going to benchmark with and without it a couple times and document my results.

Ok, before each test I ran my task killer so that nothing else would be hogging resources. I'm using Quadrant, which I know isn't the most accurate benchmark in most cases, but I think the shortcomings are irrelevant in this scenario. Anyways, here are my scores:

#1 - 2000
#2- 2087
Avg: 2043.5
Without SetCPU
#3 - 1931
#4 - 2102
#5 - 2062
Avg: 2031

All things considered, it's about the same. Battery life will be a whole different beast though, so I'm going to leave it off for a day or 2 just to see.

Been running this ROM and the 1.3.2 kernel for a day now - and battery life is AMAZING!!!

I am overclocked and using smartass and I am in disbelief at how much better battery life is.

Normally when I unplug my phone in the morning the battery drops like a stone, going below 90% after about an hour.

This morning after over an hour and a half the battery is at 97% !!!!

Amazing!!!!

Sounds good, band.

Did you have any install problems? I would likely flash straight to 1.3.2 so did you need to go go from 1.1 -> 1.2 -> 1.3?

Nope just download and flash with ROM Manager - wipe data/cache first and you're good to go.

You can then flash the kernel using ROM Manager (even though instructions say to use fastboot).

What kernel? Isn't it included in his ROM?

yeah it's included. There's a little kernel update though that patches a few things on the existing one.

im not trying to be rude, but figured it would be best to start with easy stuff. are you just enabling the keyboard or are you long pressing in the field you want to type in so you can select the keyboard? i am running better 8 right now

i enabled it in settings and i long pressed in the fields but i couldnt get the pop up to switch.

worked it out tho after a few reboots thx

I thought that only using other profiles in setcpu was forbidden.

Setcpu scaling set to smartass by default is what is needed. Can we get any confirmation on this?

oh true that was the profiles i think but i'm not 100% sure since i didn't pay that much attention when i was reading it. ;)

what exactly is smartass? is it something that does work automatically or can we set it up?

i have setcpu right now and was using that to lower the cpu while the screen was off, but since smartass is on here, i do not think setcpu is working..

smartass is a governor that controls processor speed (? i think) limits for like sleep, wake, and how it accelerates.
Smartass Governor info

it comes set up already if it's included in a rom you're flashing, but you can go into the settings and change the min and max levels if you like, at your own risk of course.

Do I need to reboot into CWR (using ROM Manager) and flash the kernel or can you actually flash the kernel directly from ROM Manager?

If so, when I choose the updated kernel from the "Install ROM from SD Card" portion of ROM Manager, I am asked whether I want to wipe cache and backup current ROM. Are either of these necessary when flashing the kernel?

Where can you find it to change settings? Or do you use setcpu to change things?

When using the 1.3.2 Kernel (latest update) Adrynalyne states:
1.3.2 kernel update
--Fixed wifi tethering by switching back to ondemand as default governor.
--Tweaked smartass governor for better performance. You can set it as default with setcpu, but using profiles with smartass will conflict.

1st point: The kernel is now using OnDemand as its default governor. Not smartass. He changed this back because of some Wifi errors with tethering that cropped up... To utilize smartass:

(1) Install SetCPU
(2) Use the main profile tab to switch to SmartAss as the default governor
(3) Check Set on Boot if you wish to always use SmartAss as the default at boot.
Thats all you need to do now.

2nd Point: Things that will cause conflict per Adrynalyne: Using profiles in the profiles tab. Ex: have a "Screen off" setting (the smartass governor already does that). Ex: Having a <30% battery = limit CPU to 245 to 586 mhz, blah blah blah.

Reason being, Smartass governor already has a set "rule set" for cpu speeds that it follows. If you add more profiles on top of that, you basically negate those rule sets making conflict.

Some notes about smartass governor:
Phone sleeps at 245mhz min/max.
On wakeup, ramps to 576mhz.
At 60% cpu load ramps to full speed.
At 30% cpu load, ramps down.
Setcpu profiles can and will conflict. i recommend using a different governor if using setcpu.

So, at this point, Yes we still need to use SetCPU. The program is needed to change the Default governor from Ondemand to SmartAss. Hope this helps clear some confusion! Good luck! :D

Included some screenshots of my settings so you guys can see. I'm using the latest 1.3.2 ROM with the latest updated kernel.

Antone else getting issues where for no apparent reason the phone starts pulling a lot more current and starts knocking off a battery percent 1 10 or so minutes while idling?

Forgetful, I had this problem the first time I flashed just the ROM with Rom Manager and left it. I had to flash it again using Recovery mode, then use Fastboot to flash the kernal and now my battery life is AWESOME!!!

I agree the battery life with this rom/kernel combo is awesome. I practically dont loose any juice while idling.

Okay I'll try that, I need to completely reflash the rom in clockwork? I debloated and readjusted my settings so I don't want to lose anything I don't have to.
