[ROM][5.07.2011][ED01]Community Rom V1.3

Love the microbe wall paper. Wonder how much of my battery its gonna eat up? Shutdown is cool as others have mentioned. Made me smile and laugh. :)

Ok, please tell me something. What was the complicated part about that that I was nervous about? It couldn't have been easier! :) Thanks for all your help! For anyone on the fence its super easy!

What is it that I'm supposed to be scared about voodoo for? i.e. the whole "if you're not comfortable with voodoo don't do it" thing?

Yeah going to voodoo is not bad at all. You just want to make sure not to flash a non-voodoo kernel over a voodoo kernel without disabling lagfix first

Is anybody else experiencing their 3G going in an out on V1.3? It didn't happen to me on V1.2. It seems as if whenever I wake the phone up, the icon in the status bar is gone and i'm not sending/receiving any data. It usually takes 20-30 seconds for3G come back up.

First of all, the community rom is awesome and I would like to say thank you to all the developers. I have noticed that my 3g signal has not been as constant as it was in the 1.2 version. However, my main issue with V1.3 is that launcherpro doesn't seem to be working and keeps force closing. I have tried wiping my data and reflashing the rom but have had no success. Am I overlooking something simple? Should I just go back to V1.2? Thanks for your help

i'm stuck at dl09, anything in particular i can test? normally don't turn on any location services so not much prior experience. it's always managed to get within rock toss distance anyway, and still is, suppose just using cell towers.

i have to barge in here with yu about the dl09 and poor service area.. i have uploaded to each rom patch i have seen and still have to cook my head to have a descent conversation.. so the upgrades may not do you anygood in that area but the sheer elgance of the upgrades gives one a smile within to be with 3 other androids and be able to upload faster than they can.. so yer choice is yers, and there are some tough parts but if you take each piece as it comes,, everything will fall in place,, as of now i have no intentions to go with a Samsung or Verizon upgrade..

what about ED01.zip from way back yonder

That is the update.zip version of ED01.. it's only usable in stock recovery and it's the stock rom. Yes it would give you ED01 radio, but it's only good to update from EA28 stock to ED01 stock... There's no flashable ED01 radio yet.

OK any and all,
from what i understand tomorrow is official release to froyo 2.2 from Verizon..
what i want to know, is it as good as we already have?
if not, then why flash it or is it pushed rather we want it or not?
next i've read a few hours on the com rom v1.3 and thus far have not seen anyone say ,
alright no problems everything works...
most had to run the gauntlet to fix this and that..
is it that good compared to com rom 1.2 -----
that it is worth the time and possible problems to run it?

The official update was released on April 21st from Verizon...

As for the community rom, really it's personal preferance, any custom rom, even stock roms, have bugs. Some easily fixed others not so much, it's a work in progress no matter the case. Yes it appears a lot of people are running into complications with 1.3, while some aren't so much. There's pluses and minuses to any decision, it's all a matter of if some of the features appeal to you or if you're perfectly comfortable with your current set up.

Here are my two cents about the ROMs, stock or custom.

First off, with the stock ROM, if you have a bug, or a failed update or something that goes boom what are you going to do? VZW support won't/can't do much. They seem to resort to bring it to a store and we will either get it fixed or replace it with a REFURB. If that doesnt suit you, your only other recourse is the fine people around here. More than likely, you are gonna walk away with a working model with the help of these guys. I consider that a minus for the stock ROM, and a plus for the custom.

With the custom ROM the guys around here know it backwards and forwards. They can fix things easier and more to your satisfaction if you can follow directions.

With the stock ROM, you are FORCED to use what ever they want. You cannot chage your default search button to google or yahoo or whatever. You have bing and you'll like it. With a custom rom you have google pre installed. Enough said.

Also, the custom roms do not have all the other bloatware that VZW puts on. no bing, bing maps, and a bunch of other crap (sorry I am really tired cant think of the others). You will get more out of your phone just on not having all those preinstalled apps start up all the time and bug you.

Dont like the way your status bar looks? With a stock ROM, your stuck with it. With a custom ROM (with root of course) you can flash any one of a number of options to suit you.

Don't like that your battery drains so fast with a stock ROM? Your outta luck. With a custom ROM, you can flash a custom kernel that can be undervolted (thus using less juice) to try and help a charge last longer.

You want something that you dont have to do anything with? Then stock is for you. You will have your quirks, but usually it works and you never have to think about it. With a custom ROM, it takes just a little bit of work to get it just right. Now that isnt to say that ComRom doest just work right after a flash, it most certainly does. It is just the little tweaks to help it along (battery life, look and feel). But on the upside for the custom rom on this point, MY phone is just that, MY phone. I may have the exact same thing (ROM, Kernel) as sharkie, but guess what? Mine looks better, his has a better battery life....they are different phones altogether. I think it is a plus.

Time for bed. I will vote for Custom every time, but then again I also have an addiction to this thing. You get out of it what you put in.

PS: If you are worried about flashing a ROM and ruining your phone, really don't be. With the proper READING and a little patience, you ALMOST cannot ruin the phone for good, and if you do hit a "brick", these guys can get you out of a hole. I have seen them spend all night fixing a phone of someone they never met, never will meet and they have no vested interest in whether or not the guy has one. They are just that good, of people.

So I got Comm ROM 1.3 up and running today. It's pretty smooth so far but I am having some issues with the general settings under TSM parts. I can't seem to get haptic feedback to turn off, I can't get the icons to show up in the notificaiton bar, and even after installing No Lock, the lock screen still activates. I've wiped the cache/davlik two or three times. Am I missing something?

Edit: I also can't seem to connect to my laptop. When plugged in, I hear the sound that it's connected, but there's no usb notification and nothing comes up on the laptop screen.

I had the same haotic feedback issue. I overwrote with tsm 1.0 from lilwing16's swype theme thread. Buzz kilt! No idea w the other issues, too noobly.

Huh. ran into the same Usb issue. At first, usb debugging did not come up in the not. bar, but the phone was accessible as a drive. Then like you said, the comp baloomped, ;-), but did not recognize the phone as a drive. Curious. I reflashed CR 1.2. Very stable for me, and will await further Developers developments.

Anyone having issues with SMS in ComRom v1.2? People that I txt are telling me that a bunch of @@ symbols are showing up at the end of my texts. It does this with the stock SMS app and Handscent. Any ideas?

Bookmarks

I returned to 1.2 and then installed 1.3 for a second time but I still had problems with bookmarks. Only the stock browser would work with them. Other browsers would crash when trying to open the bookmarks. I also had BookmarkSB and that would crash also. Everything else worked fine as far as I know.

Here's an update. I returned to 1.2 after trying 1.3. This morning I thought I'd try the browser patch since it was the closest solution to the problem I had with bookmarks. I cleared caches, updated to 1.3, let it reboot then went to recovery and cleared caches again and installed the patch. The bookmarks seem to work fine now. So now I'm back to 1.3 and will play around with it some and hopefully not have any other problems. I haven't used it much yet but confidence is high since when I first installed 1.3 that was the only problem I had then.

Well, 1.3, I appreciate all that Adryn and the devs have done but something isn't right with this one. Seems to be nice and fast. But I have nothing in my notification bar, I can't access the SD card when plugged in to the comp. Deal breaker for me. Going back to 1.2 till the next one. Wife has been running it with no issues for over a week.
