Which version of Froyo are you running?

a) EB13 you can just wipe 3 x and flash ACE. You will have to flash the EB13 modem with Odin first since you changed to the EC05 modem to run Syndicate.

Here is the link to the EB13 modem to flash in Odin.

Boot into Download mode, connect your device. Take the EB13 modem.tar and place it in the PDA slot. Select Auto Reboot only. Hit Start. Takes about 30 seconds.

Then you can boot into CWM and flash ACE ROM.

b) EC05, you will need to Odin back to EB13 and then you can flash ACE ROM. Use the link below to to that.

Grab the "Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6" version and then once you complete that process with Odin you can flash right into ACE.

Froyo EB13 Pre-Rooted, Deodexed, with Clockwork - RFS & EXT4

I went to Syndicate Frozen because it was based on EC05. Didn't really like it and came back to ACE. I didn't odin back to EC13 first. Everything is working properly though. Really like ACE.

Yes, 3x wipe. I did start having some issues - phone locked up a couple of times. Went back and odin to EB13 and then restored my backup from before Syndicate. All is well again.

Thanks, I did a 3x wipe and went from Syndicate 1.1.0 to Ace 1.7 without odin back to eb13 last night. So far everything is fine, still using ec05 modem.
Will it cause any problems if I continue to use the ec05 modem with Ace 1.7?

No, you will be fine. Some people see performance gains using the EC05 modem, while others see a loss of performance (network performance on 3g). Cool thing is, you can switch to the other if you think it was better.

What issue did you have with Syndicate? My issue was battery life, and after reflashing it yesterday, it still is battery life. Im gonna go back to ACE I think, or give the EC05 Midnight a shot..

Paul, any thoughts on rolling a new ACE version eventually?

There is a possibility... With deodexed versions finally popping up I may update ACE to EC05. I wanted to do it that way rather than using say SFR/Bonsai base and reconstructing it. Not that there is anything wrong with them, its just the point I like to attempt as much of the work myself rather than using someones ROM and modifying it.

When do you feel you may be updating Ace ot EC05?
I've been using Truly Epic 1.5 for about 2 months but noticed it's been starting to have problem with FC's and now it just took a crapper and won't recognize any of my apps on my SD card. (if you know of a fix, please say so. I did backup everything with Titanium Backup Free)
I would like to have a stable ROM that I won't have to replace any time soon and maybe only if a Gingerbread or possibility a Ice Cream ROM comes out for the Epic.

A fan of no crapware and a fully unlocked phone.

I can tell you ACE v1.7 was and is very stable. Its very similar in setup to TER 1.5 but still has its own identity. I will be looking into the possibility of updating to EC05 as soon as a deodexed EC05 EXT4 compatible ROM is released and only after I'm confident it will run as good as the current ACE v1.7.

I'm on ACE, haven't tweaked it or anything like that...it runs virtually flawlessly. A ROM for the ages...

That's good to hear. That's what I wanted was no fuss and no bloat. Runs decent, my not have the extreme speed and battery life of Syndicate or Bonsai but I believe ACE still has a certain user base that gets attracted once they try it.

Currently looking at some EC05 options, no promises yet but I am checking some stuff out.

With all the little issues I keep having on SRF I'm tempted to come back to ACE, but I almost feel it would be a step back in a way. If you can get a stable EC05 version (preferably with no CIQ) I would jump on it in a heartbeat. SRF is great and all, but I'm starting to miss the rock solid stability I had with ACE. I really do hope you can get an ACE 2.0 put together for us.

On a side note, when I flashed the EC05 modem with SRF, my 3g speed jumped WAY up. I am in no way exaggerating when I say it's for all intents and purposes just as fast as wi-fi in my house.

The two issues I had with Syndicate were battery life and most of the shortcuts being gone from the launcher after the screen had been off for a few minutes. I thought it might have been one of the apps causing the icons to disappear, but I uninstalled them and it still happened.
I could have put up with the battery life for a while longer, but having to put shortcuts back on the launcher over and over was too much. On the plus side, Syndicate is fast, fast, fast. I compared it with my son's Epic which is running the stock ec05 and the difference is astounding.
I have only had my Epic for 3 weeks and this is the first I have used Ace 1.7 and I am very impressed with it.

Paul,

After all your hunting around, any recommended kernals to flash with ACE? I know you linked the Genocide kernal on the OP, but have you found anything other kernal (Baked Snack or Vision) that improves performance or battery life and doesn't cause issues with ACE?

Thanks

You could try the new Genocide, I haven't used it yet and I will admit I haven't ran ACE in a week or two now since I've been exploring other ROMs looking at some ideas for a possible future ACE release. I believe the new Genocide is EB13 compatible along with EC05 so its worth a shot.
